How much water should you pack per day?

The same amount you will use in a day per day.

Do you think 2 quarts will work?
>>
>>829654
Nope. Double that, at least. More if hot weather or steep terrain.

Well if you are going to, Wild Food is no survival show, it's a docco exploring food principles most of us have forgotten, I found it fascinating.

You watched Ed Staffords show?

Hi /out/,

Sorry to bother you, but what's a poorfag to do when it comes to buying shoes for walking around all day on city streets? Any recommended brands that won't fall apart on me too fast? My funds are pretty limited, 50 or 60 bucks at absolute most...

Picture somewhat unrelated.

Go with clearance stuff. I wear skate/bmx shoes around most of the time and I always stop by Zumiez and other similar stores in the mall to check out their clearance section when I'm nearby. I wear a size 13 so it's a little larger than most people and I can normally find a pair or two of $100 shoes for $60 that I like. Might be a little more difficult if you wear a size 10, but not impossible.

It's the same with the weed smoking thing. As long as you aren't causing other problems, nobody will care. If anything, just tell the ranger you will go into withdrawls without it and he will have a seizing and dead alchoholic on his hands. Does he really want to deal with that?

I was planning to kill myself last night but then I figured why not do something amazing instead?

I'm planning on hiking the entire Appalachian trail and my life is now dedicated to doing this until next april when I set off. I have some experience in hiking/fishing but it seems a little overwhelming at the moment and I'd appreciate it if any of you had some tips or resources I should consider.

if you plan on killing yourself at some point during the trail just do it out of sight and put out your fire first.

hey /out/

looking for options with my water bottle. been using a 32oz Hydro Flask, but i dropped it one too many times and the lid busted and now it won't seal. i had the retained, insulated lid.

i'd like to just get a new lid, but i've dropped and broken the flip type lids, and they now have that non-retained loop lid. i could always bash a retention lanyard together with paracord but that's kinda ghetto.

so what are my options for a new lid? also opinions on the Yeti bottles? they look pretty durable and i do appreciate the wider mouth, but Yeti = massive southern fratbro douchenozzle with a lifted truck in my experience.

i'm asian, not originally from the south, drive an imported sedan, don't own any Columbia fishing shirts or Vineyard Vines oversized orange polos, and i don't have the shaggy Justin Bieber haircut.

so no, i'm not a Yeti consumer and definitely not in their sales department.

I need a fishing pole, any decent ones that cost around $30-$40?
29 posts and 3 images submitted.

Most of the ugly stik combos in almost any store are decent for the money and they can be as cheap as around $35 or so for a spinning combo but as with anything in the lowest price ranges I would use it until you can afford something better or just get a few of the cheap ones and swap out so it slows wear and tear on the cheap reels they use for the combos.
>>
>>829105
They will be shit at this price point. Sorry.
Save up and get an ugly stik elite or gx2. Pair that with a pflueger president reel. Will come in around $100 total.

So I've been interested in ice climbing for a while, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm already an avid rock climber, but I imagine that ice is a whole different ball game. Can anyone shed some light on this topic or point me in the right direction?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>829082
Finding a group of folks that ice climb could be a start. If you are in an area with a lot of ice climbing in winter you can probably find rental boots/crampons.

Though to be honest, the best way is to hire a guide for a weekend. A guide would be better than others at teaching you the technique and could provide equipment.

Things to consider. Clothing is a key component. Ice climbing you'll yo-yo between really warm and really cold. When climbing you'll warm up, when hanging around you'll cool off. So dressing in layers and having a big puffy jacket that's easy to take on and off will help a lot. Pants that are trim around the ankles will help you with walking around. Crampons are tricky to learn to move around with.
Helmets are mandatory. Ice falls, it's part of the game. Make sure that your harness fits correctly with the additional layers on.

Hey, some of you may remember me as one of the original patch guys.

Just wanted to drop in to say I've been traveling the world these past few months, going /out/ wherever I can.

I wandered around Europe first, then made my way through Russia and am currently in Mongolia. (Pic related) And I'll be going for China the day after tomorrow.

Mongolia is like an /out/ amusements park. You can do anything here in all sorts of climates. I went for eastern Mongolia because it is less traveled. Climbed some holy mountains, did some horse riding, visited some places that were important to Chinggis Khaan and learned to shoot a bow from a Mongolian master.

Traveling in Mongolia can be expensive though. To get anywhere you need a car, or a motorcycle if you're into that. I also couldn't find any decent maps here, so I was forced to get a guide for some parts. All these things cost a lot of money and locals just assume you're a rich tourist so they're hard to bargain down.
Also, the Mongolians revere nature as a deity, but they leave their trash everywhere. Most families live off the land but they don't practice leave no trace here.

Pic is my guide as were riding up to the top of Burkhan Khaldun, one of the Khentii Mountains in the Khentii Province of northeastern Mongolia. The mountain or its locality is believed to be the location of Genghis Khan's tomb. It is also the birthplace of one of his most successful generals, Subutai. The mountain is part of the 12,000 square kilometres (4,600 sq mi) Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area established in 1992. It had strong religious significance before Genghis Khan made it a powerful landmark, but is considered the most sacred mountain in Mongolia since it was designated as sacred by Genghis Khan. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 4 July 2015 under the title "Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and its surrounding sacred landscape." Under a Presidential Decree of 1955 the worship of this mountain has been formalised and the mountain declared a national monument. Its ecosystem is complex with unique biodiversity with flora of the Central Asian steppe. It has 50 species of fauna and 253 species of birds.

Greetings /out/,

I apologize if this is the wrong board to be posting in. I've never ventured here before but I'm needing advice.

I'm looking to run away from life. To travel roads, cities, woods and small towns. I'm on a shorter budget, but it's not urgent and I could save a bit longer if needed.

I need help determining which materials to bring. I have this list set up:
>sleeping bag
>life water straw and bottle
>coat of some sort
>light waterproof backpack
>2 shirts
>longjohns
>one pair hiking pants (waterproof, every day wear)
>one pair shorts
>3 underwear/2 bras/4 socks
> 1 pair sneakers
>phone/prepaid plan cards /solar panel charge bank and charge brick
>knife
>waterproof lighter
>menstrual cup/dental care/ deodorant

I'm a 5' 5" female so I would prefer a smaller tent or sleeping bag for lighter carry. I'm lost about what more I would need to add/subtract.

Posting amazon screenshots for brainstorming.

Easy question.

In my bushwalking endeavours here in Australia I'm trying to visit every trig point/station in my state. I've visited most of them now, but one is difficult to access due to it being on private property (farmland) and the owners have explicitly denied me permission to go up there before.

So how do I do this in the easiest and lowest-risk way possible?
There are the usual single strand barbed wire animal fences in the way, and I presume they are usually home.
Seems simple, but I thought it would be worth asking for any tips or potential pitfalls as I'm sure some of you have also dealt with fences when walking and exploring.

What do you do when you get there, jack off on them? What's the fucking point?

>explicitly denied permission
What did they say exactly? How much of a jerk were you to be denied permission to walk around and look at shit?

Any divers here? Thinking about getting my c-card soon.

Any stories from the deep or advice for new divers?

1) Get a bud/old man to go diving every weekend even in shitty lakes if that's all you got.
2) Save your money. If you want to have any amount of experience or go any further, you need a couple 1000 easy. Sure you can skate by for a while on cheap shit but soon you will have to step it up if you want to go more than one trip a year.
3) DON'T STOP DIVING. Once you're out of the life it's hard getting back in. Other life shit comes up and you'll hang up your suit to dry once and it will forever collect dust. Serious. If you want to do dis for real, don't be a pussy and keep at it
