How does one go out and experience things? I am sick of being a shut-in and have decided to go on some kind of journey. I understand that I am out of my depth, so I am asking what are the bare necessities for making this journey? How much money shall I save up and what are some important things to know?
I am extremely depressed with my current situation and hate life. If anyone has done something such as this, please share your experiences.
>>839215
Or if I am biting off more than I can chew, what are some things to do to get used to an /out/ lifestyle.

I live in the UK. Where in Europe is an affordable place in Europe to have a self sufficient property near wilderness?
I'm bumping too
The Baltics.
Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia
People are chill, and there are very few of them, so lots of forests and land available to purchase.
Source: was born there, parents just moved back to Lithuania for exactly this reason

In or around Bratislava is pretty cash for cheap land.

So I'm hiking Mount Washington in New Hampshire on Thursday and its my first outing in a couple of years (used to be out doing stuff every month) and have outgrown most of my outdoor clothing.
My questions are how bad would it be to wear jeans on this hike (only thing I own) and do i need hiking poles or could i use ski poles instead
Also anything more/less I should bring, not including lunch
>>838838
My shit
what trail are you taking up m8? i've done washington a few times and never once used poles. tuckerman? gulf? something else?
>>838849
I'm not sure yet, I'm going with 3 other guys who have all done it before, one guy goes up all time and he's going to be the "guide"
How to handle salt water discomfort when you're camping at the beach and can't take a bath for a week? Any tips to mitigate the effects? Pls help.
Ya got some sand in yer cunt?
>>838586
My first choice is always wiping yourself down in the morning and afternoon with a towel soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol
Salt water can't fuck with that
It'll save your life

Hey /out/
Do you guys bring shovels with you?
Yes, I have two of them attached to my arms.
Only for overnighters with a tent to dig shitters and a rain trench round the tent.
I also use it to chop wood. No, no folding shovel I got the Cold Steel special forces shovel wich is a beast in my opinion
>>838290
You're so cool.
Can I sit at your table during lunch?
Boys, I am thinking we should plan to do an order on the 26th.
I think I'd like it to be either from DLT Trading or Varusteleka.

Hi /out/, tomorrow i'm heading on a family trip to Maui and I read somewhere online that there are some good places to find peridot there, but I can't find any actual locations other than (possibly) the olivine pools. Do any of you know any specific places that are good for finding olivine/peridot in Maui? Me and my collection would thank you.

How many kits do you take when you go camping or hiking?
I take my first aid kit, my food kit, my fishing kit, my toiletries kit for washing my personal kit(my balls), my sleeping kit, and my electronics kit. Anything can be a kit when you think about it.
Pic related, my day pack kit
>>837735
First aid, tool and recovery kit is permanently stored in my 4x4 (including shovel, folding saw, utility axe) although move around when friends want to take their rig, kitchen kit which is just camp stove and cookware, 11lb propane tank, tent, and cooler with fresh and pre-prepped food. I take about 5 gallons of freshwater in a tank for 2-3 people with additional bottled water packs (24 each) per person per 48 hour trip.
When it gets colder I take my Mr Buddy portable heater and combined with a larger propane tank becomes the best thing ever.
Rem 870 and G21 also taken for last ditch emergencies only.

+1 for customer service

-1 for pricing
I find it funny that MSRP is considered overpriced

Love them, all the outdoor/sporting goods stores in my hometown were cancer like Dicks and Gander Mtn. Moved to a bigger city for college and discovered REI,never turning back. Got my membership and all.
I just wish they sold hunting stuff.
Sup /out/
So this kickstarter promises a 7lbs (3.3Kg) system for a tent/hammock including an insulated pad and a sleeping bag.
I'm pretty sure it will either fail, be shitty or weight more then that, but I'm somehow still tempted to back it.
Could some kind anon point out if it has any obvious flaws?
OP here, I'm a huge faggot and forgot the link:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thermotents/the-best-tent-hammock-inspired-by-travel-crua-hybr
>>837557
From the site:
"It all packs into 2 x attachable bags.
Bag 1 for the Tent/Hammock and mattress is approx 20 inch x 9 inch diameter
Bag 2 for sleeping bag is approx 12 inches x 6 inch diameter
These can be carried individually or clipped together
Longest pole is 14 inches (approx 40 cm)"
Sup /out/, any of you grow edible mushrooms? I'm interested in using the brown rice flour setup, but it seems that no store in my town sells vermiculite or perlite. Any advice?
>>837472
tried using a mushroom kit once, for oyster mushrooms. it's all fun and games the first time until you realize they're a pain in the ass and you can only get 2 crops out of them.
if I were you, I would just learn how to forage for mushrooms. you're probably going to find some in your local park, and it pays off more than having them grow in your home (which hardly ever works out the way you intend it to).

But for a small intro: you can buy verm, perl, and pre-pasturized substrate from various vendors, as well as still air boxes (just make your own). Spore vendors will sell you syringes with 20+ inoculations for cheap, and then you can reuse your spores for the next cycle.
Don't use brown rice, you'll get shit yields. Stick to rye berries or another rich grain.
RR's "Let's Grow Mushrooms" will get you through the basic processes.
I'll go travelling through Iceland in september with a car and a tent. Anyone got tips about clothing, hikes, outdoor gear, must see stops,... ?
Sounds like a plan, but yea bring proper clothing and a hammock Grandpa
Be sure you rent a decent car. There's plenty of things to do in the north and westfjords
>>837535
there are only about 300 trees in all of iceland
