As a child I used to spend hours on a lake in various small watercraft. My parents recently sold our lakefront cottage a few years back, and along with it my uncle's old canoe. I've recently wanted to get back into canoeing because i miss it so much. As I live in an apartment and drive a small car owning a full-sized canoe would not be practical for me.

I've recently seen these folding/collapsible canoes and I'm wondering if they are any good?

Does anyone have any experience with this type of water vessel?

What's a good price for one?

Are there any reputable brands I should purchase?

or

Are they just as poor a choice as I think they might be?

Please /out/ your opinion is much appreciated

Why not just go with a kayak? They are light and you can strap them to the top of any shitbox.

Folding canoe just sounds sketch

How many of you have been to some natural hot springs?

I have only been to the hot springs in Big Sur. It was really relaxing and the pools were directly next to a river so you could go for a cold plunge after/in between being in the hot springs.

The only problem was that the springs didn't feel very secluded. I'm sure thousands of people use them every year, so it get a little nasty when you think about what has probably taken place in the springs.

Anyone know of some more secluded places that have hot springs? I feel like owning a property with hot springs would be amazing.

Share your stories and tell me about some hot springs I should visit.

I remember visiting a hot springs in the spanish pyrenees. It was wonderful, climbed up there and used the little changing room and soaked in the hot water while sleet came down. Water was that creamy whitish colour the minerals can sometimes give it.

DEET spray on self, squish everything else.

Also where can I buy the spray in your pic?

Does anyone have any recommendations for natural bug repellents (besides smoking)?

Supposedly DEET kills brain cells or something

So I want to go river tubing, I have never been. I am a very good swimmer and its a quiet hour long ride down the river. What do I need to know? I will be by myself.

I am thinking of just wearing a tank top and some shorts, flipflops a hat and sunglasses. I was thinking leaving all my stuff behind, but considering bringing my phone in a ziplock bag in a plastic container just incase i get stuck or something. And beer, lots of beer, and sunscreen.

What else should I know? Should I buy a tube w/ backrest or an inflatable river boat type thing? Share your expertise

River tubing is fun as phuk. I went over pic related innatube a few times. It's on the portneuf river in Idaho near lava hot springs. I had about a pint of whiskey in me at the time and it made me brave (or stupid) enough to do it multiple times. The crowds on the river side were pretty impressed with me and treated me like a rockstar. I did get pretty beat up on the lava rocks that littered the base of that waterfall but I didn't feel a thing thanks to my belly full of whiskey. Also wear good water shoes or old sneakers you don't mind getting wet. I didn't and got my feet chewed up by the lava rocks.

Aside from that, have at it. If the stretch of water you're covering is safe, it should be great fun. I'd say bring a long rope, maybe with some kind of anchorage on the end (monkeys fist for throwing purposes) and you're good to go. Throw rope if trouble rears its troublesome head.

Anons I'm tired, I'm tired of the daily shit I have to go through ,this meaningless life of playing vidya and watching porn , I need more, I need something to wake up to that motivated me and makes me feel like I'm worth something. That's why I'm proposing to all of you an idea if your interested.A way to make your name heard again to crash the stock market. Now I have thought of this several different ways but one of them is to freez one of the major companies assets however that is lengthy and tiring, but what if we could hack the monitors in wall street forcing a loss of data even for 2 minutes which would be detrimental?

Going to visit a friend in Bavaria in september. Any recommendations for outdoorsy stuff to do? Already going fishing from his sailboat, mainly interested in nice places to hike. He lives in Stuttgart, but I am mobile in the area

Where in Bavaria are you going to be? What is your skill level, or rather how serious and what kind should your "outdoorsy stuff" be? How much equipment do you have, or want to rent, and how much should it cost?
>>

I was mainly thinking hiking/mountainbiking/kayaking in nice scenic areas. I don't really have a price in mind, I guess I can judge whether or not it's worth it after looking at what I get

I just walked in the dark through miles of tweed wolf land. I don't know why they call it the tweed wolf, and I don't want to know. I guess tweed is the overgrown fields in new england full of tall goldenrod other weeds and bushes with patches of forest. I saw their floating glowing eyes watching me. That shit scares me, I'm glad to be out of tweed wolf land.

Drugs are bad mmmk?

Going during the winter intermission to Colorado. I'm about 5 hours from Denver. I've only ever really driven through CO, but I plan to go Colorado springs to hike/camp around but the main goal is Maroon-Bells Snowmass (White River National).

>Will be 20 by the time I leave.
>Taking hiking doggo with me. He's 9 years old. Getting up there but he's still a healthy mutt and good for the travel. He's never sat that long in a vehicle though, but he'll be sleeping in his bed in the cab of my truck.
>Gonna be there approx. a week in total. Gonna be camping every night. I'd like to do a bit of hiking up and then find a nice spot to camp. Plan is to car camp maybe once but dispersed camping the rest of the time.

>piss before you go to bed
>go to bed warm, get nice and toasty by the fire, douse it then hop right into your bag to get it warmed
>have a meal before you sleep, some carbs and protein
>make sure your rainfly is tight to the ground
>if you're really worried, pile up some leaves on the sides to block more air
It shouldn't get below freezing unless you go way the fuck up in the mountains but it could get a bit nippy. Don't be afraid to wear clothes to sleep in.
>your dog should be fine with a couple good blankets

CO Wilderness Ranger (interning) here, skip Rocky Mountain park if you hate crowds. Hit up the Arapaho national forest instead, less people and better views.

In the several wildernesses in the forest, all you can camp where ever (except for 50-100ft from lakes, trails, and streams (rules are posted please read them)) so no shortage of camp spots. If you want some nice multiday loops Bowen baker is good, Arapaho pass around to high lonesome and caribou as well. Crater lake is pretty cool to check out but you gotta reserve a spot to camp there.

If you want some really cool hiking, Byers peak has a short loop that's very undeveloped and is barely used, so it's mostly bushwhacking. Lots of fun if you're into that, bring a good topo map and a compass if you do though.

Ask away if you want more suggestions for peaks n' day hikes

How possible would it be to start in Labrador and hike/camp across Canada to Alaska?

Pic related (9000 hours in paint). I'd stick to just below the tundra tree line and try to replenish my stocks around the Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake. Then I'd cut across the flats of Yukon and avoid the widest section of the mountains.

Hello, /out/. My first post on this board

During the last year, I have been spending more and more time outdoors, hiking, exploring forests, crossing rivers etc.

So far my "adventures" haven't been particularly eventful or dangerous or anything, they are, at most, about 16 hours or so, from the very first light till sunrise

What I wanted to ask you is what are things that I (and, everyone else who is new to this) should definitely know? Common mistakes people (or you) have made that could have been avoided, what not to do and what I should do correctly. While /out/ I also really like to photograph things, my camera is one of the things that have made me go out more actively.

Anyways, please post anything I should know. I am planning of doing a longer trip during the following months, about 3 days or so.

Hey /out/ this plant has been growing in one of our beds all season. It doesn't match any plant that was planted in the bed originally. At first I thought it may have been basil but now I don't think it's even possible.. It doesn't look like a normal weed. I decided to let it go and see if it would flower and it almost has. What is it? And should I just weed it?

Anyone here use any of the larger North Face hiking packs? I picked up one of their day packs on clearance a few years ago for cheap and it's a really well put together pack for over night or one day trips. I'm looking to replace my cheap High Sierra 70L pack that I use for three day trips with something of higher quality and maybe a little smaller. Since, my North Face is so nice I was looking at them first. I know Ospreys and Kelty has an excellent rep I just don't have any first hand experience with them like I do North Face....

North face are quality, but you pay more just for the name cos chavs love it. Im assuming its the same in the us. Osprey and lowe alpine make the best backpacks in the world imo, but kelty, north face, berghaus etc arent bad

I'm gonna have to disagree, i love Deuter and have an orange daypack and a Jack Wolfskin moab jam 24 but i'm gonna get a Deuter act trail 36 or a similar size pack (35-45l)
>>
>>824560
Ive never had much experience with deuter, purely cos my lowe has done me so well. Ive heard good things, but im not gonna recommend them on just that. A guy I used to hike with had the airlite 26 i think, he liked it
