Naw. I'd like to try "camping" in an RV, though.

Step up yo game!
Seriously though those things would be great to do day hikes out of. Especially if you got one of those Unimog offroad ones. Drive real deep down some Jeep or ATV trails, post up, get a comfy rest with the DirecTV on, get out real early for your hike on the middle of nowhere, catch bigfoot, come back to a hot shower and a kitchen.
Hey fellas.
Lets make it a threads about the incoming meteor shower.
I've been doing some basic stargazing learning last week and going to watch it tomorrow night, will put pictures later.
Also got a question - do I read a star chart (pic related) when its above my head with N, S, W, E fixed towards N, S, W, E, imagining the 2D map is a dome?
>tfw watching the perseids from my roof
love living someplace dark
>do I read a star chart (pic related) when its above my head with N, S, W, E fixed towards N, S, W, E, imagining the 2D map is a dome?
yes. notice how e-w are swapped in orientation relative to n-s
>>833894
OP here, thanks.
I am going to this desert city where they put all the lights off these days so people would see it real good.
Last time I been there I saw like thousands of stars, what an amazing thing
>>833905
Have you watched a meteor shower from there?
I tried to watch some of this shower a year or two ago and it was cool but not nearly as exciting as I expected. I do live in an urban area but if I'm looking to the east a bit over the ocean, the light pollution isn't terrible.
I also never knew you could actually see the Milky Way until I was moving down here and my Penske truck broke down somewhere between Orlando and the East Coast. I suppose those meteors would be a bit brighter if I went somewhere like that.
Post some good beers that doesnt taste like shit. Will try them out if possible.
I start pic related
Possibly my favorite beer of all time. Bell's Expedition Stout.
A Russian Imperial Stout with 10.5% abv.
>>833697
Not normally one for microbreweries
I love the taste of a nice craft beer but it's just so goddamn unhealthy
But I make an exception for Utah's Wasatch Brewery's double bock "Devastator"
Which tastes so goddamn good and only takes one beer to feel a little boozy
I don't know what it has to do with /out/, but Augustiner and Tegernseer, aswell as Maxlrainer are amazing
anon just finished his divemasters course (long time coming)
is there any real point in taking it to instructor level and beyond ?
most instructors i know seem to get pretty jaded pretty quick, and the money isnt amazing.
i already know the kind of tossers you have to deal with sometimes, but thats a minority imo
what do you reckon, scuba bros of /out, is it a meme or...?
>>833692
I only have an advanced cert but I'm looking towards getting the master's cert. I always thought you could easily get a job at some sort of resort or tourist-y business dealing with scuba.
>>833692
get the masters, maybe dont get instructors
spend some time working as a DM and if you still want to be an instructor, i take my hat off to you
>patience
>americans
>loads of fucking americans
I would consider it, if only for the opportunity to work around the world with something you're passionate about.
Then again, if you're not a very patient man when dealing with less clever folk, you might want to think it over, since it's your job to make sure they're reasonably safe to let loose on their own after the course, not to mention getting them safely through the course.

You're not a fucking Inuit, quit building stupid shit when there's no need to.
>caring so much about the environment that it becomes borderline retarded
>thinking someone stacking rocks can have detrimental effects on the local environment
This is one of my best, I love building things, I'm getting really good!

I want to get my pilot's license. I figured this is the best board for this.
Has anyone done this here? Is it worth it? Did you buy a plane or just rent when you're up there?
i wanna get a pilot license, buy a waterplane and a cabin out in nowhere, thats the dream
>>832267
That sounds extremely comfy, friend
I tried but lessons and renting even the shittiest cessnas gets expensive, maybe one day but for now I am content not blowing money on it

Other anons caught the bug, went to Dick's for something simple and walked out with 25 different baits. It's impossible to refuse these $3 Rapalas.

Those Keitechs are always on sale and I keep wanting to buy them but swimbaits haven't been hitting much with the warm water. I definitely need to get a few before the fall though.
Did they have any Scatter Raps left for $3?
>>832157
I bought the swim baits because I can use them in salt and fresh.
The one near me in Austin had tons of scatter raps left. Too bad our bodies of water are really shallow (pleb wade/shore fisherman), they dive too deep for me to use effectively. I was looking for more of those gary yamamoto baits but couldn't find any.
>>832161
Yeah a lot of the Yamamoto stuff was wiped last weekend too with the $3ea sale. They had these black topwaters that I wanted to grab when they were finally less than $8 but couldn't find any. I do like the couple jerkbaits I got but they are a little small for larger LMB's.
And most of those Scatter Raps don't dive that deep. Even their medium ones will only go like 4'.
Newfag edition: What the fuck am I doing?
I need a not shit sleeping bag in the 20 degree range, mummy and light(er) prefered. I was looking at the EMS Mountain Light 20. Am I fucking up?

i just came here to post this
Would the Marmot Electrum 30 be good for three season in northern New England?
Ok out, I just got challenged by my father in law to be that I couldn't spend one week in the woods. I told him to go fuck himself, if I can manage it in less than a days preptime He has to pay me a thousand dollars.
So the Question I pose to you, who all have much greater experience than I do, I've only gone camping a hand full of times and non of that was very rough.
I have to spend one week in the wilderness (North Washington, We are close to Canada.)
So I know I need to pack warm clothes and tools, I'm not trying to cave man it here, because I have no preptime so I can't get high end things, but I can grab anything from something like sporting goods store. not nightvison goggles as fun as it would be. So keep that in mind, but if you know of a good knife in those guidelines thats what I'm looking for. I'm willing to spend $1,000 since then If I win I get all of it for free and can rub it in his face.
I'm an enthusiast not a practitioner, can you help me out?
>>831442
Alternatively, What is your comfort level with nature? I spend all most all of my time inside but I like nature and I have no problem being in the dirt or around insects or spiders or animals. I just don't have to many options to do that. How much exposure does everyone else like? bare ground? a tent? just a sleeping bag or blanket, or full cabin? I enjoy different things about each but I would have to say my current limit is at least a sleeping bag,
>>831442
Get a Mora, a stone to keep it sharp, two bic lighters, and a stainless cup. Fill a gallon Ziploc bag with Good Old Raisins and Peanuts. Boil water to drink. Maintain strempf with gorp, supplement with local flora and fauna. Fire > shelter > everything else.

What is the best headlamp that isn't outrageous in price. I had a Black diamond revolt, I think, that is now missing. Looking for one that is brighter than that one and around $120 at most.

If one was to use a low draw weight recurve bow and light arrows with the heads replaced with foam balls, and then only stalked larger prey (boar, deer) can anyone see any ethical/legal problems with this? I want to participate in the fun of hunting but I don't wish to take something's life for a bit of fun (not judging if you do, far better than supermarket stuff). I live in nz if anyone knows the specific laws regarding this. Also I would carry a knife firstly because standard /out/ gear but secondly incase I had to defend myself, ideally I'd just climb a tree though.
>don't know if this is bait
Why not just get a few buddies and shoot each other with foam arrows. If bows are too expensive use nerf. Afterwards you all can have a big gay autist orgy.
good news man, someone's got you covered
