Hey /out/ Armyfag here, I was wondering if there was anyone around or used to be around the Fort Bragg/Fayetteville, North Carolina that could suggest any good trail hikes or any scenic drives for the weekends? I know there's not a mountain in sight, and that bums me out, but I'm trying to make due.

I was never at bragg, but I was at a few orher bases. 12b. sapper.

your base more than likely has a place the reserve the spots that are not being used for training. most of the bases I was at called them hunting clubs.

the most important thing that rhe military can teach you is how to read policy. and how to petition a bureaucracy.

I'm at Seymour Johnson, and for weekends I head out to the Uwharries. 2 hour drive from here. Probably less for you.
You've got acres of forestry land out there, hike/hunt/target shoot all you want.
Abandoned gold mines to explore (pic related) and the whole of the uwharrie river to fish.

Google that shit

Pic related is known as Cooney's Tomb in the middle of BFE. The guy was killed in an Apache attack, and as I understand it, he died so that settlers could be kept safe.

I found it while out Javelina hunting a few years ago.

Is there any way to get on Mt. Whitney without a permit. I have been reading a lot online but there is a lot of conflicting information about which routes require a permit and which do not. I understand that I won't be getting on the Whitney Trail this year, but can I use any of the east face approaches without a permit?

#76-"Is it September Yet?" Edition

Previous Thread:

I can feel it. The weather is finally going to start cooling off soon and maybe the bass will get active again. Also it would be nice to be able to fish during the day without sweating. And fuck Sundays. I would love to just go fishin all day, but instead I'm stuck doing laundry and other stuff that needs to get done and stressing about waking up at 4:30am for work tomorrow. Saturday is the only day of the week I can really enjoy.

Also tent general.

Looks a bit heavy, my 2-man tent weights half a kilo less than that (packed weight).
>>
>>842394
Is 1.9 kg that mutch for a 1-person tent?
What is the weight i should be looking for?
>>
>>842409
Mine (wechsel Pathfinder zg) weighs 1.8 and thats max what I would carry for a 1 man tent. Usually you'd look for around 1-1.5kg

Micro fleece, yes or no?

It's pretty great for insulation as long as you have a shell to stop the wind. The one in your picture looks pretty shit though desu.
>>
>>842309
I tend to opt for just a wool jumper as a mid layer. In my environment, I don't need anything heavier than that whenever it gets colder.

>>
>>842280
Shut-up skinfag, skinwalkers aren't real, and even if they were, the chances of actually encountering one would be the equivalent of a fucking bigfoot sighting.

I bet you're also one of those types of paranoid meatsacs that padlocks the zippers together on their tent every night, instead of investing into an accessible tarp+hammock setup like a normal fucking person.

Hello

I see everyone outside riding skateboards and that just seems so much cooler than riding a bike. Does anyone ride a skatebaord and if you do then what would you say to someone who wants to learn how to ride a skateboard and any other advice needed.

skater here, if you are wanting to street skate you better be ready to go through shoes bi-monthly and spend a lot of time bashing your shins when practicing the same movement.

learning to ride to get to the point of being able to handle well around the streets and bomb roads well will take a couple of months, during that time you will meet a whole load of skaters and bmxers that will talk to you and give you tips.

its not to expencive for a setup (mine is cheap at around £140) and should last you long enough to get basic tricks down (ollie, manual, pop shove ect...)

if you get into it you will make life long friends, good cardio and leg gains, new skills and a new mode of transport.

Skating is all about moves. Start with these.
Shove it - 250 points
Impossible -250 points
Kickflip- 100 points
Heelflip - 100 points
Then you can start doing things like Wall Rides, Nose Grinds, and Mega Ollies.

Once you get all 30 tapes, you can play in career mode as Officer Dick apparently, but I've never gotten that far.

Hey /out/

I know it isn't exactly /out/door but I know this board is open-minded and mature. You've helped me in the past.

So I'm planning to live in a van. Already bought one for €2.200 which I could start living in today, however I want to make some adjustments first. It's basically a portable bed with a small sink and stove. I'm sick of paying around €350,- a month just to rent a room and I hate unclean house-mates. Experienced that for 3 years now.

So

Advantages:
>very cheap. Tax + insurance is about €70,- a month.
>No house mates
>Very flexible, could drive anywhere and stay almost anywhere.

Disadvantages:
>small space
>only small access to electricity and Internet
>shitting and taking a piss

So what I'm planning to do is get a gym membership. I work out anyway so I might as well shower and poop there.
Stay at work/school late, do most of my internet/computer stuff there. Only go to the van when it's time to sleep.
Get a large mobile data deal so I still have Internet in my van.

So what do you guys think?
