I want to work in agriculture but University is not really an option for me. I've volunteered at various farms in different countries, one in particular was my ideal job. I worked with the animals every morning, maintained the grounds, planted new tree's and plants, pulled weeds and sometimes worked in the Musteri making apple cider, along with various jobs around the farm. My question is, for those without a degree how did you get into agriculture? Are there intern programs for adults
I've done WWOOF and I guess that could lead to a job but that's a shot in the dark

Literally use your experiences to build a resume, work as a farm manager.
I have friends who do that but generally speaking college education is very important to not be a worker unless your experiences show leadership and managerial capabilities.
>>841661
semen demon who?
>>841661
>WWOOF
how was that? that sounds like what im trying to get into
as an avid /out/doorsman who regularly shops at rei and goes to state parks TWICE a year, I propose a question:
how important are birds?
Very
>>841584
Why?
>>841589
They eat a lot of pesky bugs like ticks and mosquitos, they spread seeds to help propagate trees and smaller plants, and of course they're beautiful to look at and listen to.
GTAfag here.
Help me get out of this godforsaken hive of human villainy and despair.
What are some good, rugged trails within a few hours driving distance?
Just a basic bitch day hike.
Is Algonquin park feasible for a day considering the drive time to and fro?

ganaraska
>>841536
Been there a few times foraging for mushrooms.
Lots of fucking ATV and dirt bike traffic and noise. Is this common?

Dude, you live in Canada, one of the only countries where you can get /out/ in under an hour, NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE. Fuck off OP
Going /out/ to visit archaeological ruins, does anybody here do it? Pic related is ~1000 year old Anasazi ruins. They're on top of a mesa that is very defensible, because the Indians attacked each other all the time back then. It's not much of a hike at about 1/4 of a mile that even my 70 yr old cousin made, but people without ranged weapons would have had a helluva time storming it if the residents were aware that it was being stormed. At least until the water ran out.
The ruins are partially excavated. I'll post a couple of pics from inside of one of the excavated kivas.
Bonus material:
>Be me
>Out of state cousin comes to visit a few years ago
>Take him /out/ in Jeep
>Show him shit that people in state don't know about
>During ride home experience right rear blow out on tire
>Get new tires
>Be me again
>Take same out of state cousin to old-ass Anasazi ruins
>He enjoys the shit out of it
>On the way home, experience blowout on right rear tire
>I think I wheel too much, and it fucks with sidewalls
>Get new tires.
>Oh well, at least the old ones were almost worn out anyway
>Joke with cousin about how he is a bad influence on my tires.
What's the best canned food or food that has a long shelf life? I have a cabin with no refrigeration and probably wont get any so I need ideas on food I can store without it. Pic related is some good eating.
>>840925
>Pic related is some good eating.
I pledged a fra'ernity in college and one weekend me and my pledge bros had to stay on 6ft tarp in the corner. We were in there with a keg of beer and a bunch of cans of Dinty Moore. All of it had to be gone by sunday night. We were allowed to leave the tarp to pee/pooh and to puke.
Anyway, I can't even look at Dinty Moore ever again. I think you're a real sicko OP.
Also, Spam (cans last longer than packets), corned beef hash, and canned veggies of all sorts - beans and potatoes lend themselves to many meals whereas greenbeans and peas you have to eat "out of the can", which isn't very good. OH stewed tomatoes as well, you need your lipocene when /out/ anon.
>>840931
>lipocene
meant lycopene, sorry

Anyone know how long one of these will last opened in 90 degree weather?
So I'm planning on building a custom lightweight teardrop camper to be pulled by an 02 Jeep Wrangler with a 3 1/2 lift and 33 inch tires and steel bumpers
Vehicle matters because of the weight, I want to say I need to keep in under 500lbs while being pulled I need to double check
>>840876
Check this out OP. Its light weight and the guy who made it seems quite happy with it.

Best part is that is that the shell is just lots of triangles made out of wood that you can pre cut inside.
>>840880
>under 500
why? It's more than capable of towing it, if you want to hit trails/etc then you need to focus instead on getting suspension/tyre combo perfected on the trailer instead, focusing on lightness will impact too much on comfort
Solo hiking 9 days back woods scary sh$t always happen when alone in woods.
Heeeey
>>840875
I wouldn't worry about it.
Anyone into urban hiking trails? I got a big 35 mile hike though at the end of the month. well prepared and planned. just wondering if any others are out there in well populated areas with little hiding gems tucked in the hustle and bustle of the city. Please feel free to share stories of stumbling upon hidden trails in the city or even some well known ones as well. Happy trails fellow sc/out/s and /out/doorsmen!
Theres a bunch in london ontario but they arent secret... its the forest city after all. Trails all over the place
>>840712
any pictures? I'd love to see some of that green stuff.
Shot of a wilderness park trail I hike every once in a while
IM STUCK IN A TENT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ISLAND AND I HAVE HELLS ITCH
REMEMBER YOUR FUCKING SUNSCREEN KIDDOS
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>840698
just try to be less caucasian next time
>>840698
>going on 2 week trip with gf
>she's in charge of sunscreen
>use it without looking too carefully at it
>day 2 at >11,000ft
>why is my nose burning?
>look at sunscreen
>mfw 15spf
>sunscreens for pussies, lol
>4 days at 10k feet
>bit of a burn on my neck
>arms tan as hell
>not too bad
>6 hours driving home across the central valley
>formerly tanned right arm cooked crispy
>mfw ex-tan peels off
inb4
>right arm
i drove the whole way to the trailhead starting at 2 am, so the deal was i got shotgun on the ride home
Ok guys, I cant take life in Kansas for one more minute.
Too hot , not enough /out/.
Outside magazine just listed its 16 best places to live and I am going to pick one of them this week and be there by end of summer.
Any extra info on these towns would be of great use to me.
https://www.outsideonline.com/2105956/best-places-live-us-2016
Anyone that has billings as a top place to live can fuck themselves. That factory town is a SHITHOLE. Go live in WA or OR, doesnt matter where. Dont go to ID. MI is also acceptable but it still doesnt have shit on WA and OR.
Raised in Leavenworth btw.
>>840619
>basing your future residence on a biased internet article
Just close your eyes and stick a pin on a map.
>>840699
inb4 it lands in Kansas
Do any of you guys use tarps as shelter instead of tents or hammocks? I'm trying to get a setup together and am looking to shave off some dollars from the cost. Buying a large tarp instead of a tent seems like a good way to do that.
>>840274
It can work, but you're limited to just a single wall and no real door.
Easier just to kill someone and take theirs. Don't do that though
Thought about it, but too many skeeters and critters where I go /out/.
I'd have bring a big net to go in my tarp, and at that point I may as well just bring a small tent.
>>840288
>too many skeeters and critters where I go /out/.
This. Wolf spiders turn the outside of my tent into a skii resort. Other stuff make loud crawling sounds under the tent floor.
One tiny hole in the tent and billions of ants and spiders get in.
I hear you can get paid to kill coyotes, hogs, gators and shit
As in just turn in the heads for money
How do I do this and where do I go to do this
>>840223
Louisiana/Texas for hogs I think
I think foxes and gators you can no longer get money for, unless you sell them specifically for the hide there is no bounty on them.
>>840225
So, its called a bounty? Any specifics on prices per head? I hear tennessee is a good place too?
>>840223
Check with the state Fish & Game office, they'll provide with a list of nuisance species and how to redeem any bounties on them.
Anyone have any experience with Mallard watches? I'm looking at the combat model in particular.
Are you going into combat? If not you better not get that watch you stolen valor piece of shit. I'm a Marine and would fuck you up if I saw you had a combat watch on and never deployed. Beware.
>>840212
You fucking faggot I bet you shop at milsurp stores to, dear god you are absolute scum
>>840212
>quartz
Into the trash it goes.
Also fuck you if you haven't served and want to get that. That's like valour appropriation. Not cool man.
This is fucking crazy, /out/.
>I'm just out camping with a few of my buddies
>shooting the shit
>drink a couple of beers
>fire goes out (we're all a little drunk not paying attention)
>I volunteer to go get wood to shave for more kindling
>I'm gone for a while but eventually I put enough freshly picked saplings in my flectarn canvas bag
>I go back to camp
>"we were worried anon"
>I pull the saplings out of my bag
>one of my friends pulls out a multi tool
>a FUCKING MULTI TOOL
>doesn't this retard know hes supposed to bring his toolbox
>FFS
>I am beyond furious
>Fucking amateurs and their multi tools
>I notice none of them have fully modified Mk II Sten Guns on them
>another friend pulls out a "Key Bar" or some stupid shit
>its a COMBAT knife not a SURVIVAL knife
>really getting mad at this point
>sigh loudly and take out my Cold Steel Balisong
>get the saplings and put them on a stump
>start hitting the back of my knife with a stick over them
>I don't remember the name for this technique
>I call it tactical survival knife striking
>Tak-Sur Kni-Sti for short
>Knife breaks
>My strength must have broken it
>oh well I have 7 more
>Pull out my ZombieTools™ dope ass machete
>looks like blood is on it its sweet
>seriously it's so dank
>eventually get the wood
>friend pulls out lighter
>I slide tackle him fucking amateur
>Pull out activated flint
>spend 25 minutes lighting fire
>all my friends killed by skinwalkers
>should of worn gilly suits
Camping story general
>>840156
was this supposed to be entertaining or funny, you fucking faggot?
>>840156
Wow if you where trying for the most austic thread on /out/ this month. U won that title.

> wants to live in the woods

Wrong. Most people in "that areas" just dont like niggers. They got no problems with fine black gentlemen
