Am I doing a mistake for buying this backpack (warrior elite ops x300 pack)?

Recommendations for other products are highly appreciated as well.

Say you are in a dire survival situation and encountered a dead animal. You somehow determined that it's been dead for days and eating it will cause massive problems. Is it a good idea to wait until it is riddled with maggots, then eat the little suckers by the handful? If so, does it matter if you cook them or not?

>>
If it's not safe to eat the dead animal, it's not going to be safe to eat the maggots that are eating it.
>>
>>845825
Yes, the maggots will be fine to eat. Just rinse them well, wrap them in a big leaf, and bake them or use in a soup/stew. Never eat them uncooked!
>>
>>845825
What makes it unsafe to eat? Can't I just throw it on the fire till it's ultra well done and be good to go?

Ran talk, has anyone used a grappling hook for climbing/rappelling purposes?

I'm not talking about the shitty ninja ones either that are basically junk.

I saw the new Google interactive slideshow that replaces the logo since August is National Parks Month in the US. In a few of the slides, they had a girl(?) in a wheelchair.

How do they expect us to believe that someone in a wheelchair was able to traverse through the paths? Are there some kind of tread attachments for wheelchairs or something? I remember seeing those Hoverround commercials where a bunch of old people scream out "HOVERROUND!" at the edge of the Grand Canyon or something, but how realistic is that?

Does /out/ listen to music while out? Do you play music, either to yourself or with friends?

I can sing and play basic rhythm guitar and whenever my friends and I get together for something I usually end up playing a few songs. Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash are some of my favorites. Sometimes we'll get a few of us who play guitar together and make sweet six string music.

Last Quidmas when we did /out/ Secret Santa a good anon bought me a tin whistle to play while /out/ and I've had great fun playing it these last months! I'm not good, but as a multi-instrumentalist it's something really fun to do, and it's not terribly challenging. I have a couple harmonicas as well but that actually takes real work to master.

I can almost taste it. I need to figure out how to lose my job and get unemployment so I can go fishing daily for a few months. It's hard to even stay out until sunset without sleeping through my alarm the next morning.

I kinda agree with anon here >>844663

Depending on your fishin holes, you may want to go a little heavier on the line. Idk if it's just me, but going heavier with the line on casting reels doesn't seem to impact casting distance nearly as much as with spinning reels.

If you aren't going to be hooking into lilly pads a ton, 15lb will be fine.

I'm hitting a lake Saturday that I've caught bass, pickerel and plenty of panfish in before. I just checked online and apparently there are brown bull cats as well. I'm taking the canoe out so I can hit the bottom in the middle of the lake. If I'm trying to get cats on the bottom, am I better off with nightcrawlers or chicken liver?

I am planning on doing a thru hike of the AT next season and I have begun creating a tentative daily schedule for myself. I came across one a few days ago that I was going to base mine off of, but I cannot seem to find it. It was a daily schedule for a 180 day hike. Has anyone seen it?

Also, I have the AWOL guidebook and I've been looking at all the towns that you pass by while hiking. Some of them are limited to one or two gas station-type places, of some sort of "market". Do these places usually have enough as far as a food is concerned? Mainly talking about foods like pasta sides and the like, not granola bars.

>>
Actually, I just found it, but the question remains regarding the types of food one would find in the gas stations and markets close to the AT. Do they cater more towards hikers because of the proximity?

I hear most towns on the trail have good resupply, though up north the same stuff gets expensive as fuck. And yeah, places do tend to stock items with hikers in mind. I haven't seen anything really that makes me want to send a box anywhere, could be a bad move but i'm not going to bother. I'm leaving early March, soo pumped
>>
>>844588
Most towns on the trail have a lot of stuff geared towards hikers. If a certain gas station is the closest gas station to the trail, you can bet they stock stuff for hikers. Even if they don't have much, they will be able to point you where to go. They are very, very used to hikers coming and going.

Calamine lotion, maybe visit a doctor. Too late to do much at this point. Watch where you're going in the future so you can wash that shit off before it sets in.
>>
DUDE wash everything that may have been in conctact with the urushiol oil. Re-exposure is a huge part of nasty breakouts. Clothes, pillow, tent, or whatever might have oil on it needs to be washed. You might have more and more exposure appear on your skin over the next couple days from any re-exposing that happened after the initial brush with the ivy. Some people have breakouts increase for 2-3 weeks because they have oil on their steering wheel or something and don't know it.

Also, if it's on your eye you'll probably want to see a doc just to be safe.

We found a pipe /out/. It's just your standard CSO from the looks of it.

Going inside again next week. We went about 3/4 mile inwards last night. We turned around at the first water sensor thing. Was attached to a string that went thru the ceiling.

Plenty of manholes along the way.

We have rope and flashlights and cameras and Gopros and snacks and water.

What else would be fun to bring?

I fucked yer dad last night. He was looser than the pipe.

I'm thinking about setting up a scarecrow like screamer in my wooded trail park. Still have this costume in my closet too.

Perhaps just set it up one day around a corner of the trail, maybe out in the woods so u see it from a distance.

Any advice to spook the shit out of people? No harm wanted, and not to scare off people from the woods, thought I'd actually leave something inside like a reward to whoever checks it out.

Just want to prop it up and leave and check up on it every week

Halloween is coming afterall

hey /out/, i fished a bunch when i was younger, but lost interest, and with it, my tacklebox&pole.

so what would you consider a decent fishing pole that you can do about anything on, for a decent price tag? pref no more than 60$.

bonus points, if you want to give me a basic list of tackle for my box that'd be awesome.

>>
>>844060
Just grab a zebco with a reel style of your preference.
Can get them at Walmart for $20-$30.
Grab one of those little kid starter tackle boxes.
Sinkers, bobbers, hooks.

I always preferred live bait.

If you're doing bluegill all you need is some tiny treble hooks, don't even need bait.

If you want to surf fish you'll need a lot heavier gear. Same with anything ocean really- not going to get there for $60.
>>
>>844060
Stay away from poles with any sort of clear plastic. They shatter and break easier.

Im going to buy a new rod and reel tomorrow actually with about 60 bucks. Ill let ya know what I get. Or you can check the never ending fishing thread.

shakespeare is a good starting point, if youre looking to catch at streams, creeks, and ponds.

I'm sure you know what to get, sinkers, bobbers, etc

I'd suggest getting a trout magnet kit, they slay panfish
