Who here has been to Algonquin Park in Ontario? It's very beautiful.
Is it?
>>836782
Sell me on it, give more detail
>>836782
On my bucket list. The Adirondacks are probably more beautiful but Algonquin has the remoteness, is less crowded.... Still wild enough to have wolves and mountain lions. Algonquin also has a massive interconnected system of canoe routes that gives you a way to access all these wild areas by canoe.
Lady Evelyn Smoothwater park looks interesting also.

3,000 sq mi park mostly inaccessible by road, thousands of miles of waterways to explore, good "interior camping" opportunity.
I was wondering if that soundfag from Massachusetts managed to record the epic t storms we've been recently having. I just missed the one at my house by a day. I knew I should have caught a earlier flight.
Also t storm thread. Post pics you might have and tell of your experiences.
Also thought this was interesting. Lightning is amazing.

That's me. It pains me dearly but I have not, for various reasons. The first one (which was beautiful) happened when I was a couple towns away at a friend's house, the second one happened when it was like 98% humidity, I'd taken my mics out earlier that day and they malfunctioned horribly because of the humidity so I had to shut them down. They can be damaged permanently if it's too humid and you're running phantom power through them.
The one tonight I could have gotten except my asspee neighbor is running a gasoline generator which would ruin any recording within a at least a couple miles. HOWEVER we have storms in the forecast for the next week or so and I will be ready and available to record them.
I'm sorry anon, as you know my story and how I've been trying to get a perfect storm for like 3 summer the frustration is real.
I'm in dire need of survival/apocalyptic file dumps. I'm trying to find the most extensive one I can find. I wasn't sure what board to post this in but I've tried others and no one wants to help me. If anybody could redirect me that would be awesome.

Wow thanks for sharing OP!
Haven't seen that posted on /out/ yet.

OP, in case you haven't noticed, yes, the general consensus of /out/ is that Primitive Technology is fapworthy material.
No, but the guy in OP pic is
What states would /out/ recommend living in if you want to live a life with the least government interference?
Would Montana or Wyoming be a good place to go to?
>>835400
I think if you're going to build something you plan on living in you need a permit regardless. Otherwise, a google search would tell you.
What do you mean by interference? Like, cops driving past your house? You'll always have some extent of interference no matter where you live, it just depends on what you mean.
>>835408
By interference, I mean how well they respect property rights (imminent domain, regulation, etc)
Also I would want to home school my future children, so laws regarding that would also be important.
My friends tell me Colorado would be a good place.

Buy your land upfront no one will fuck with you
Just got my Maine trappers license and was planning to do a few Coyote sets, a bunch of culvert sets (because duke 5' traps are cheap) and MAYBE an attempt to snare a bear and spear it.
I'll probably shoot that last one depending on how much balls i can muster and how big it is. The spear i've got is 8 feet but still, i'll probably pussy out on the bear and use a handgun.
The problem is the guys who bear bait to use their hounds to track them down just set up shop in my territory, i can smell that shit half a mile down wind. Basically imagine a open mass grave and you'll understand the smell. Dead Coyotes, rotten meat and rotten seafood spilled out of a 55 gallon drum.
I don't mind them doing this (i plan to trap a Bear myself, i encourage it) but it is where there are a bunch of timber piles that are prime coyote/Fox trapping areas.
If i set up my traps then for the weekend that they bring in their dogs for Bear hunting i'm going to be harvesting hunting dogs and pissed off seasonal hunters.
I don't want to be a dick but this isn't their land, it is common land owned by my road association. They are using our common land and they don't own it nor do they have rights besides the fact that a road association member gave them access.
>>834107
Put up warning signs in all the parking areas and within range of the traps that there are coyote traps that could potentially injure hunting dogs.
Mark the traps well for humans to see.
>>834107
If one of the hunting dogs bites your face off, oh well, it's not your land, it's owned by your road association. You are a dick just by virtue of trapping. I'm a hunter but trapping is a slow painful death for the animal. We're not living in 1700

What are your thoughts on living self-sufficiently and going off the grid?
easier said than done
Pretty much impossible for a single person. For a group of people, 5-10, it's just really hard.
Going entirely off grid permanently is fucking rough for one person.
You can do it if you have a vehicle that you can go get supplies in. I have a friend who lives in a 200 sqft home off grid but is by no means self sufficient, takes showers at the fire station, drives 20 miles for wifi and basically does what anyone does in a city, just lives in a box outside of it.
Don't get me wrong, it's a lifestyle that can certainly be enjoyed but if you're thinking of "homesteading" it, think harder about what it takes.
Sir? Do you have a question about overnight permits?
>permits
What do I look like 4 eyes a fucking pleb? Give me the off road vehicle use map. Going to leave a lighter tip for even implying I wouldn't be dispersed camping outside the park.
Did you just assume my gender?

Cute rabbit.

I lol'd pretty hard at that. I had a groundhog do the exact same thing and I've had deer walk up on my porch and eat flowers before. Nothing is safe.
Right now I have raccoons/opossums eating my tomatoes while my electric fence is down. They've wiped out 1 bushel of tomatoes so far. I put a 6 feet tall fence around just the tomatoes, but they still climb over.
Can't wait to get the new fence up.

Thread dedicated to all your OWN /out/ related pictures. Google images should not be used as this is a thread for all the active outdoorsy posters on the board to show off their campouts/setups/gear and hopefully bring /out/ back from its current state ie; shitposting until a new primitive technology comes out.

This happened in Seaside, OR. Went for the weekend with friends for one of their graduation gifts
>Decide I want to see a lighthouse off the coast, we could see it from the hotel but it was easily a 3-4 hour walk along the coast
>Make it there in time - tide still relatively low
>On the way back I notice my path has been blocked off by the ocean
>3 inlets in a row like pic related above, think I'll just push my way through the waves and grab onto the walls
>Get stuck in midde inlet while tide continues to rise, now soaking wet and cut from being pushed into the barnacles
>Have to spend the night on a rocky outcrop freezing my ass off paranoid I was going to nod off from hypothermia
Natural selection almost got your stupid ass, OP.
>not knowing how tides work
I once went mountainbiking and fell forward over a root and faceplanted like 10 cm next to a big sharp rock. That thing would have hit me right between the eyes if I had been a tad to the right. Never mountainbiked carelessly after that
