Hey /o/. I've never posted here before but I've lingered on 4Chan since like '09 or some retarded shit. Anyways, I've been getting into the car world for some time now and I know a pretty good amount for a relative normie, but, I've got a few questions maybe you dudes can answer for me.

What's the definition of Stage 1 upgrades as opposed to say Stage 2, or 3? What about something like "Stage 1+?" Is that basically a "Stage 2" equivalent? I ask partly because I was deciding between two super charger kits for my car, one was a "Stage 1" kit, the other a "Stage 3+," yet the horsepower/torque difference was only maybe 60 best case scenario, as well as the quarter mile times and speeds being within 0.5 seconds of each other and like 6 miles per hour difference.

Speaking of, for a car that is daily driven and still has all it's street comforts, what is considered a fairly good quarter mile time?

Lastly, does Nitrous have any real-world benefit?

Sorry if it's a shitty post, blow me.

>Picture not my car, but somewhat related

shameful self bump.
>>

"Stages" are generally just packaged upgrades with a fancy name, and they are all different depending on the company and the marketed car

For the quarter mile times do you have a particular car in mind?

And yeh Nitrous is used alot mostly for the drags and some hardcore street cars
>>
>>17878667
Couldn't speak to your stage # upgrades, have never done those with my cars.
Mine can do a quarter in 13, but I don't know how good that's considered.
Never used No2 either.

What do you guys think of the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, I was thinking about buying a used one with around 100km. any advice? is it reliable?

>>
>>17878588
It's a Hyundai, so I'm certain it's reliable
>>
>>17878588
Buddy has an N/A velocter. The DCT and brakes share a master cylinder. When his shifts started going bad, so did his brakes. Then he got in an accident in stop-and-go traffic when his brakes gave out.

Fiesta ST is a similar price but better reliability and craftsmanship, you just have to shift it yourself.

Looking for some help here faggots. Would (pic related) work for a 91 Toyota pickup?

?

No

The Toyota Pickup has torsion bars, not coils

These are a shit idea even on a vehicle with coilovers, but Benz is right.

Don't use these, spend another $100 and get proper replacement shocks with some adjustment. Bilstein 5100s work great, I have them on my FJ and they were easy to install, let me level out the front to get rid of the factory rake.

Granted they were $150.00 each, but not really much more labor involved.

/g/entooman here, Little backstory, no tl;dr, Kinda going be a bit scattered as I have a few points I want to hit. Have a lazy father i've been trying to pay to fix my car and not family price either. Have full home shop with a car Lift, And three Chest 6 foot high of almost every tool ive also seen in pro shops, have an engine lift, One of those Rugged OBD scanners with up to 2016 codes(Havnt used it yet).

My issue beside changing plugs, oil, tires and fuses. My extent of car knowledge goes out the window.

I live On/towards Beaches on NC and driving to Arizona and may drive back. I want to do a full tune up, like I bought a fuel filter to replace as my gas mileage has dropped, and going to get a full size rim to have full replacement are two things i've thought to do. as well, I am going to get new sparks, and replace the oil gasket around the sparkplug as I was told it might be leaking.

Maybe I am being paranoid but I feel like my car runs rough and doesnt really knock except maybe when waiting at drive thrus other things. My father is like it has "200,000" time to get a new car, maybe im being childish at that reality but I feel like I have other options, I am willing to learn just need direction.

Would seaform in the gas tank help my car? with the amount of tools and internet what should I do to my car? Engine swap? Full tune up? Granted I paid $2000 for it in 2011? with 82,000 miles from coco cola private auction. I feel like I can get more out of this car as Im still getting roughly 28 to 30ish mpg some days and 25 others sometime less. There are time where I just dont feel like it can be running as well as it could and I feel like it can be corrected but I could be very wrong.

thoughts? and/or anything I could explain or elaborate on?

change the oil
change the coolant
check trans fluid
change the spark plugs but use oem recommended plugs
go on your trip

Honestly do what your dad says. If you really want to keep this car, get a Hayne's manual or some other DIY manual in order to look up how to do basic maintenance on this car.
>>
>>17878389
mind you he is a construction worker by trade and mechanic as hobby and mainly works on 1970s cars.

it took my three months to convince him my car doesnt have an air filter or not a normal one anyways.

Do you love or hate a tire shine /o/? I think it looks stupid and trashy. What's even the point? Shiny paint makes the car look newer and well taken care of. Shiny tires make it look like you put on tire shine. Seems pointless.

I use tire gel (to protect) not into that armor all shiny bullshit
>>
its pretty retarded imo
>>
>>17878296

The super shiny stuff looks gay because the rest of the car inevitably gets dirty faster and the tires look ridiculously shiny.

>>17878304

The regular Armor All spray goes to a matte look after about 2 days, and lasts for a few weeks with some rain. Keeps the tires looking clean-ish, although I have white lettering so I have to scrub that or I'll look poor and strangers will judge me.

Are vehicle recommendations frowned upon on /o/? Sorry if I'm rude. I'm not into vehicles, but here's what I'm looking for:

>reliable obviously
>preferrably smaller than a typical SUV
>no requirements for storage space
>good offroad and snow capabilities, this is important because I spend some time travelling in the winter and we get a lot of snow here and I hate getting stuck
>not a truck

I'm considering a Jeep Wrangler, but I'm not sure on the mileage... Even if I don't drive for fun much. Plus I'm not a douchebag chad so probably not.

I really like the size of the two door Wranglers. Anything else that emulates that size?

So I bought this 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, and upon getting it inspected I was told of some potential problems, so here is a list:

Transmission Fluid a little brown
Brake Fluid dirty
Upper ball joint boot needs replacement
Air Filter
And recommended fuel system cleaning

The main things that I am concerned about are the upper ball joint boot, and the transmission fluid. The transmission seemingly shifts fine, but I am just guessing the fluid has turned a little brown from age. Would this problem require a complete flush which I was recommended by the garage, or should i just simply drain the fluid? The fluid levels are normal i think it just needs to be replaced.

>>
just get a shop to flush the system

also how many miles on it? sometimes depending on the condition of the tranny, flushing it is actually bad for it. thankfully the 4r70w/4r75w is a very cheap transmission and very easy to replace
>>
can't hurt to just do all the fluids in one fell swoop. check the air filter yourself, though rule of thumb is the previous owner probably hasn't changed it in a while.

can't speak to the ball joint or fuel system cleaning.
>>
Its working on 110,000 miles. I am under the impression the previous owner changed the fluid at about 60,000 miles.

Would it be cheaper *in the immediate sense* for someone with no mechanic friends and no car savvy to get a dealership sedan with a 100,000 mile warranty?
20 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>17877492
Just stemming from the idea that, "Whoops, parts are breaking, let's take it to the shop," could become inconvenient and expensive for someone like me.
>>
I paid for a third part warranty with my used car for peace of mind. I had one issue so far which was covered. The would be cost was half of what the warranty was and still have a year and a half to go. If you don't plan on modding it I think it's worth the peace of mind.
>>
>>17877533
I think a warranty on anything that is prone to breaking is a good idea. Sometimes I get replacement warranties on electronics that I end up using three times.

So, you're saying that you can get a third party warranty, a warranty on a used car you bought from Steve or something? How does that work?

Yeah, or the less expensive route could be to just keep getting extensions on it until they won't allow it, usually they won't appear after a certain amount of time unless its the CHP.
