My dd shitbox is getting a bit long in the tooth and I'm saving up for an upgrade.
Catch: I can only have one car and it must have the following features.
-wagon, hatchback, minivan (can camp in and haul bulky objects like some furniture or a bike)
-automatic (no fucks given, I'm not playing clutch pogo for a 50 mile stop n go work day with hills everywhere just because you like stick)
-20mpg city/30 highway minimum
-available for around 2k in sf bay area

Everything else is a bonus.
Looking at.
Ford Focus Zetecs
Subarus with the ej22
Hyundai Elantra
Corolla Wagon (good luck finding one though)
Post-97 Escort wagon

What others should I look at?

I actually used to drive a 960 and I really liked it but the mileage was pretty bad. Looking at the specs for the old redblocks they're even worse. Really underpowered too. They run though, and all dat space.

So that's it? Volvos are all we can think of.
Are Suzuki Aeros any good? I'm seeing a lot if those cheap.

Hey guys I've got a question for all manual owners who are familiar with things like heel-toe-downshifting and double clutch. So, the steps of double clutch are as following:
1. release gas pedal, press clutch pedal
2. put car into neutral
3. release clutch pedal
4. rev the engine a bit
5. press clutch pedal
6. downshift into desired gear
7. profit
BUT - why can't I just
1. press clutch pedal while holding gas for about 1/3 seconds (so the engine revs up)
2. downshift into desired gear
because if I'm not mistaken, this should have the same effect but with less work. Does it wear down transmission much? It's what I've been doing lately.

Hey /o/ so I'm going to be home the next month off from work. One of the activities I want to do is learn how to drive a manual. I figure I could just buy a cheap old manual car and learn with that during this time. Any brands/makes you guys recommend? Budget is like, I dunno, 2-3k?

THANKS

Kill yourself, and stop trying to get OP to waste money on cars that habitually breakdown.

Buy a Toyota Turdcel, or some other decent jap car. Toyota pickup if you want a truck.

Hey /o/, I need your advice in buying some car.
I'm pretty tight on budget and can spend a maximum of 2.500€.
Due to high insurance costs here in Germany, I nailed my search down to two candidates:
- Mazda MX5 NA (the 90hp version)
- Alfa Romeo Spider 1.8 (around 140hp)
What are the pros and cons of each?
Also if you have other suggestions, feel free to post them.
Thanks

I am pretty sure the NA will be much cheaper to maintain and the real fun with GTVs really start at the 2-liter twinspark. If the NA is rust free then I would go with it. If not, and the GTV is absolutely spotless and everything works, then it would consider it. Not saying that the GTV would be a bad car, but considering that you stated the limitations of the budget, then I wouldn't consider it. Suspension parts, timing belt changes and Magneti Marelli electronics will make you their slave. With that kind of cars you should have minimum 1k€ extra to spend on fixing them all the time. I would add a Mazda MX-6 V6 to the list. If found rust free, they are good value for money and fun to drive.
>>
Out of those two, I would go with the MX-5,,, but why not a Fiat Barchetta.

Mazda MX-5: Worlds most sold roadster for a reason. Cheap and reliable, also fun and forgiving to drive.
Afla Romeo Spider: Pretty and great to drive, but if things go italian( and they will) better not be poor.
Fiat Barchetta: A bit Like Alfa, but cheap and more reliable. It´s a Fiat, so if thing go bad, it´s not gonna be expensive.

Actually this could be a good idea. Those are in essence better versions of Punto mk1.

So I'm making this thread because I have a question.

when I am driving, my car pulls to the left, my steering wheel turns to the left as well.

Other than alignment , what else could this be ?
I don't feel like possibly wasting money on alignment, finding out the problem isnt solved and then fixing it properly and doing alignment again.

I know the summer tires had equal PSI all around about a month ago

Anyone here has or had a C4 2008-2009 model? I recently got one (1.6 petrol 4 gear auto) and there seems to be a gearbox problem, the S and snow icon start flashing on the indicator and the service light turn on. Anyone here familiar with the problem and fixes?

They came from the factory with Brie gear linkages which go mushy and stinky pretty quickly. You can replace them with Emmental ones which can handle the flex.

Why can't Hyundai make a car worth shit? They get terrible mpg even with light cars and small engines. They ride terrible. They aren't fast. They aren't even cheap anymore. Why?

Bruh... Brembos!

And they don't ride that bad. I have driven a bunch of Sonatas and Elantras, and they are just as boring as any Japanese econobox. They are fine for appliance cars. And you get a lot of options on a mid size sedan for a decent price. Everything might be lower quality, but at least you got that sunroof you wanted and it was still cheaper than a base Accord.

That was my wife's thinking almost exactly. She bought it before we married though so I had no say. It's just a terrible car and without her warranty, it'd be thousands to fix with only 75k miles

The bench racers have won. Almost nobody cares about driving pleasure anymore, manual transmissions are going extinct in favor of dual clutch, responsive NA engines are going extinct and being replaced by turbo engines, even the M3 is turbocharged now! Meanwhile o-tards are masturbating furiously over lap times and idolizing cars like the GTR because numbers are all that matter.

The driver's car will be dead within a decade.

He's making use of a bunch of physics quirks in the game to get around corners faster than usual (like the shift down-up-down-up before he starts turning, which causes the car to skid in the opposite direction it's facing- usually away from the corner itself).

Also, he's Asian.
