Why do American cars need 600-700+ hp to beat other cars? I was at the drag strip and I was watching a 700 hp (at the wheels) gt500 getting beat by a bone stock gtr that only makes 545 hp (at the crank). Same thing with ctsV and corvettes. I'm not trolling, this is a legitimate question.

God damn that GT-R is fuck huge

RWD is hard to get good consistent launches, whereas a GT-R does all of the work for you aslong as you hold the gas pedal down. IRS RWD hi-po cars are even harder to get good consistent launches

>hurrr gt-r shitposting

launch mode or whatever the fuck does all of the work for you in the GT-R when it comes to drag racing. 60 ft advantages, launch advantages, and then dual clutch transmissions can shift faster. That's why OP, before autists fill this thread
>>
The GT-R spanking the GT500 might be because of more advanced traction/launch control.
Plus the fact that it's FWD giving it insane grip.

Pretty neat.

would buy trophy wife one for the kids so he can go crash into whatever she wants and not die.

Certainly looks better than the X5.

Unmatched comfy levels, exterior takes some getting used to but it's different from the "GRR, ANGRY" SUVs that desperately try to hide the fact that they're not sporty nor utilitarian.

So I've been thinking of getting my first s-chassis... s13 or s14.

They are easily available in my area. I've been 'shopping' for the past 6 months or so, but I'm having a hard time picking one. A part of me is like "make the mature choice, choose the most stock, unmodified one as possible", but another part of me is like "but this one has a swapped sr20, and modified suspension, race seat, blah blah, so it'll be more fun."

The purpose of buying this car is purely for enjoyment-- comfort and convenience are %0 a factor. I want it to be a bit ridiculous, and feel like a toy, not a commuter. But I also don't have a garage where i can just stash it if it breaks down, and I don't have endless $$$ to throw at it if shit keeps fucking up-- so reliability is unfortunately still a bit of a factor. I'm also not very mechanically inclined. I don't mind basic maintenance, but i'd rather be out driving than shopping for new parts online and spending hours working on my car. Buying a stock car and then modifying it into my dream car isn't something i'm that interested in doing... i'd rather just buy someone else's hard work and tweak that to my liking.

So my question is, have any of you purchased an s-chassis with a similar mindset? Whether you chose stock or modified, do you regret your decision?

Is there an intelligent way to buy a modified s-chassis without being a mechanic and/or having owned and worked on a few?

Also, I'm in New York, tell me which one I should buy: http://newyork.craigslist.org/search/cto?sort=date&hasPic=1&searchNearby=1&nearbyArea=451&nearbyArea=349&nearbyArea=249&nearbyArea=561&nearbyArea=167&nearbyArea=250&nearbyArea=168&nearbyArea=170&nearbyArea=354&nearbyArea=17&nearbyArea=356&nearbyArea=278&nearbyArea=276&nearbyArea=286&nearbyArea=173&auto_make_model=240sx&auto_transmission=1

Got a used car from another state, got new plates... the holes on the front don't line up. What the hell is this? This is the dumbest thing to not have standardized, why would one state have different license plate hole widths than another?

And how do I fix this? I don't have a drill, but was thinking of using hammer+nail to try punching new holes in the plate. Is there any other way to attach a license plate to the front? I looked up the law and it looks like taping it to the windshield would not be enough. It has to be securely attached somewhere on the front bumper/grill area. I'll look more into if this would be legal, but could i zip tie it to the grill? would that interfere with anything if it was in front of the grill? I'm guessing theres a reason grills are grills, so would blocking part of it be bad?

Otherwise how much would a mechanic likely charge to either put new holes in the plates or in the bumper? It seems like a simple thing but I feel like a mechanic would still charge more than I care to pay.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/6316522/Fast-cars-boost-mens-testosterone-levels-research.html

>Researchers from the Concordia University in Montreal recruited 39 young men for their study. Each one got to drive a £75,000 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet for one hour, followed by an hour in a 16-year-old Toyota Camry, a family car. Tests on saliva samples showed a significant increase in testosterone while drivers were cruising around in the Porsche. But there was either no effect, or even a slight decline, when they got behind the wheel of the battered old Toyota. Researchers noted the most potent effect was when volunteers were driving through town, where there were plenty of potential female admirers.
But hormones even rose slightly when they were out on the open road, with no spectators, according to the study published in the journal Organisational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes.

So what is it, are you a low test beta driving a shitbox or a big swinging dick?

You're fucking lucky, you dumb faggot. 2002 was the ONLY model year where the 3.5L had the oiling system fixed. The 4L30 is weak shit, don't beat on it. The rest of the car is ok, it rides rough as shit, though, and it's pretty mediocre off road. Barn doors are best doors, senpai.

B18 non-VTEC DOHC 1.8L 4cyl engine, has 118k miles on it. Will post a few pics, bought the car about a month ago (I'm the second owner, original owner garage kept, waxed/polished, babied this car). Now it's leaked 4qts of oil since my mechanic and I changed the oil 2,500 miles ago. Mechanic now says I'm looking at having to replace the crank shaft, or just drop a new engine in it instead of prolonging the inevitable. The oil pressure warning light never came on until I was already hearing metal on metal action. I've put 3qts of oil and 1qt of Lucas honey in her, hopefully this will keep her running until I can either A. find a new car to drive to work or B. determine whether or not I need a new car. So, /o/, how fucked am I?

Further information -
The leak is not a direct spillage, as there has been literally zero leakage on my drive-way. I'm assuming the leakage is occurring at high-temps/RPM's and just burning off on the engine block. The metal-on-metal started a couple nights ago after I was getting off work, and went away after the engine was done rolling over. Then the sound would persist at 4,000RPM and higher.
>>
>>13961722
Nigger what? Don't you check your oil once a week minimum?
Get a b20. Those things are cheap as fuck. I got mine with 74,000km for 350 dollars.
