Hey /o/, me and the wife are having our first kid and I'm not giving mycars on the condition I get a "dad" car. I also just got her a 92x aero.
What's the most based dad car?
V8 swapped Volvo 240 wagon
Dodge Hellcat with an LS1 swap.
Why do you need another family car if there's already a 92x in the family? I mean, you can only transport the kid in one car at the same time.
Why are there so many of these in Ireland and pretty much none in the UK?
>>13943053
because they're cheap.

Maybe 20 years ago.
What are some good basic mods for an AE86?
I want to keep stock height.
Thinking front and rear sway bars, and uhhh, thats all i got.
Best books for learning about car basics? I'm looking to obtain a general education on how cars operate, do any of you own any good books on the subject?
Why read when you can watch and have everything explained to you?
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClqhvGmHcvWL9w3R48t9QXQ
His older videos have actual technical explanations, all of his newer stuff is reviews ignore that
>>13943026
I'll do that too, but I like to read as well. It helps me retain the information. Thanks for the link
>>13943026
Lots of dubious stuff in those videos
IDK about basics but some books that I've gotten a lot out of -
Chassis Engineering by Herb Adams
Racing Chassis and Suspension Design by Carroll Smith
Tune to Win by Carroll Smith
You don't have to be building a race car to get a lot from these books, they will give you a great understanding of how geometry, springs, and dampers affect how a car handles.
Is it a good or bad idea to lubricate the bolts?
My new used car's nuts are on so tight I'm going to need to borrow a breaker bar. Snapping one of those bolts would be expensive too.
Consider this: The easier the bolts are to loosen for you, the easier it will be for them to loosen on their own. Generally speaking lubricating screw connections is on the bad half of the scale.
>>13942917
Don't lubricate any fastener.
>>13942917
You can apply anti seize to studs. Consult your manual, most have wet torque specs.
>>13942931
Not if you torque correctly.
>>13942936
Lube no, anti seize yes
I'm trying to wire up my headrest speakers to my new stereo, the trouble is they have terminals like on the left in pic related, but the place I'm supposed to wire them to looks like the right of pic related. If I hold them in place the sound comes out right, but I need something to connect them properly. What should I do?
>>13942884
You're a scummy person.
>>13942911
Why?
if you absolutely must you can cut those terminals off and crimp on new ones.
Looking to buy my first car. Looking for advice. Thanks in advance.

to be fair, it probably just fell off the roof
What's your thoughts on the 2016 Fiat 124?
It's the official gay car's hardcore closet cousin.
>>13942524
It's a good looking, open top Fiat with reliable Mazda underpinnings, aimed for weight reduction. Only downside is the lack of power, but the 1.4 turbo is easy to tune, and soon there'll be an Abarth version with a detuned Alfa 1.75 turbo. Given the results Novitec has gotten on the 4C with that engine, 270hp should be easy with a tune.
>>13942557
An Abarth version is coming out.
Is a grease gun a good investment for the amateur mechanic?
If your car need ungodly amounts of grease maybe.
I've been working on my own and family/friends cars for over a decade and never felt the need for a grease gun though.
>>13942505
Yes, grease guns are good for greasing stuff.
Don't listen to that idiot who's never greased anything in his life.
>>13942505
do these come with more anus friendly attachments? that looks awkward
What is the worst car manufacturer and why is it Volkswagen?
litreally wat?
>>13942479
One emissions scandal means nothing to a true car lover. Volkswagens are great
>>13942479
I wouldn't call it the worst manufacturer but they do have the most obnoxious fanbase.
I just bought a 2003 Escort ZX2 with 74k miles for $1500. It seems okay. The owner said he hadn't changed the oil in about 6k miles so I did that today.
I also noticed that when I made sharp turns, there was a clacking noise. I assume that's an outer tie rod/CV joint and can just buy a new axle assembly for that side.
Other than that it runs perfectly and the ZETEC sounds awesome. It's just a shame it's an automatic because I heard the trans on the mon-manual versions of these tends to overheat. I'm keeping it in overdrive for now.
What does /o/ think of the purchase? Decent price? How many miles do you think I could squeeze out of this charming little shitbox?
Any suggestions on what I should have done to it?
>>13942407
I also plan on buying aftermarket wheels.
Should I go black or keep the alloy? Any suggestions on particular brands?
I would have bought a higher mile car that's weaker with a manual instead.
Actually not too bad of a purchase.
If youre going to DD it and not beat the fuck out of it then youll prob make it to 200k no prob
Looking at getting an e90 any factual pros and con's or personnel experiences
Op here - I would not be looking for an M3 not looking to pay the extra insurance for it

But first chek for ninja250 and gs500
If I were you, (which I was 4 years ago) then I would search for a medium mileage ninja 250. For 3k USD you can get a great example, especially if you're willing to get a bit of an older model. These starter bikes will always have a market and if you spend ~$3,000 now, even after 2 years or even 5 years if you've taken great care of it, you can still end up selling it for the same you payed for it.
Many folks will say start on a 600cc bike, but I'm a firm believer that a new rider should learn the way they should ride on a bike that's very forgiving. A 250-300 is just that.
If you think after 3 months you're going to be bored with the smaller engine, I encourage you to YouTube m13's video about a 250 racing around a track. If you think you can keep up with him then go ahead and buy a bigger bike, but until then - think more about if you need or can really take advantage of a larger engine.
As far as why I recommend the ninja 250 over the cbr 250 of the 2010 era is because the fuel efficiency of the cbr - though higher - is negligible compared to the ride quality, bike feel, and power which will be much more apparent to a rider with your build.
