I'm looking around for a used car. I imagine most prices are assuming the car will be financed. If I pay cash, what % discount should I be aiming for? Should I even be looking at it that way, or should I just aim for the KBB median price?

The dealership makes money on financing, the myth of the cash discount is retarded.

Either do not disclose the fact you want to pay cash or accept financing for a discount and then pay off the loan in a lump sum as soon as the terms allow.

No. Buy on craigslist.

>as soon as the terms allow.
Also make sure you the terms allow early payoff. Dealers actually hate you got this, re the revenue from financing

Why have vans changed so little since the 1980s?

What would you change about them?

The design was pretty much perfect from the start. Just minor fascia improvements with aero.

Automakers like unnecessarily changing the style every few years :^)

If it ain't broken don't fix it. White is easier to keep clean though it looks like absolute shit.

Does anyone actually know how this works. All google searches come up to shitty blog sites with no real information.

How does the 25 year law work? Can i pick a 180sx from 90-91 and bring it in?

I assume regardless of 25 year or w/e, i still have to smog since it's newer than 1975.

>>
>>15922759

i believe as long as its 25 years old you do not have to smog the car.
>>
>>15922759
It's a bit sketchy, usally to get that done you would have to know someone or pay out the ass to get it to "pass" some shops claim that they can modify the car to make it legal, but it would be very expensive.
>>
>>15922759
Here's the real answer. I've talked to IVI and CARB to make sure that I have the right answer here.

Before you buy, you need to call G&K/CEE. They are the only lab certified by the state for direct import cars. NCDL in NorCal used to do it as well but they stopped doing it and only do CARB EO numbers now. They have to issue a certificate of conformance before you are allowed to register the car in California. Regarding modified cars, I was told that it is possible but the conformance will be done on a time and parts basis.

For the R32 GT-R completely stock and no issues, the cost is 10k USD and 2-3 months. It's expensive because they need to add extra catalytic converters and the dyno tests alone mean you're looking at about 3000-4000 dollars at market rate assuming you only need an initial test + verification. Once you pay shop rates and part costs for the extra catalytic converters and some timing modifications here and there, you're going to be in the 5000 dollar range easily. The rest is partially state-sponsored go fuck yourself and just in case your car doesn't pass on the first try.

Once you receive the certificate of conformance you smog every 2 years like normal. Registration is well defined here. OBD1 cars get the dyno + tail sniffer as well as visual inspection, the BAR label will list the relevant emissions control systems and the smog tech will check to see that they are present.

The other route is to move out of state. You must establish residency out of California and register the car out of state for 1 full year. This allows you to immediately import with no certificate of conformance but I believe a smog referee is going to check to make sure things are stock. I don't know as much about this route, talk to CARB about it. Unless you were planning on doing this anyways it's going to be just as expensive as the direct import route.

You don't have to "know someone", there is a clear regulatory framework here.

Aww, what's wrong mate? Did Momma Theresa tax your rusty shitmobiles to Callisto and back?
>>
>>15922626
No they changed the rules so road tax isn't transferable when you sell a car.
The new owner gets it retaxed, while the old owner gets a refund of unspent road tax.

Hey guys, got a somewhat stupid question here.
Want to fit an aftermarket radio in my car.
Bought a harness adapter, but can't figure out how to wire it.
The adapter looks like my OP pic, on the other end I have just wires coming out from the newly bought radio.
How do I wire these two?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>15922151
Keep the stock radio.
>>
>>15922158
No.
So do I just plug in the stripped wires into those ports on the left?
>>
You're gonna need a wire stripper and butt connectors.
Or a lighter, your teeth, and electrical tape.

Pretend you were me. You are going to buy a new small truck (or as small as you can get new nowadays).

You are only ever going to tow small project cars or an A-frame trailer so even a base V6 will get the job done.

You want a regular or access cab because you're buying a truck, not an SUV.

You don't need 4x4 because you aren't going to Moab, just the local campgrounds.

Where would you look first? I think Dodge is out of the question. Not big on their build quality and lack of QC. Toyota seems nice but there is a noticeable price premium.

>>
Grab a Chebby or a Ferd. Basic trucks like what you need can occasionally be had for pretty deep discounts, and should do everything you want.

Frontiers, though not what they used to be in my opinion, are also worth a look.

>Pretend you were me.
Ok, I am thinking about dick, sucking dick and getting butt slammed by a twink
> only ever going to tow
Tacoma is a little tapped out towing a jeep xj when you consider the total weight trailer and all.
> don't need 4x4
I'm more of a gigantic faggot than I thought. 2wd is useless and most gas mileage suck comes from the bottom being of the ground and the brick shape. You're fucking stupid to seek out a 2wd because some time somewhere you'll want it and then you'll be proper fucked, unlike your boyfriend.

Anyone know if high mileage E36 M3's are alright to daily? Im not expecting Honda tier quality and Im ready for stuff to go wrong.
