This is like a Michael Bay movie in real life
>want to start doing my own work on my car
>decide to start by changing the oil
>buy a kit with a jack, jackstands, rolling bed and other shit at autozone for 80 bucks
>lift car up, put in jackstands, block wheels, use handbreak, everything thats in the book
>go under car and when i pull the wrench to loosen the drain plug bolt the whole car wobbles
>mfw
Holy shit, being a mechanic is scary shit isnt it? I couldnt even change my own oil without pussying out and thinking the car was gonna fall on top of me
I've never jacked my car up to change the oil. How large are you? You can do it bud.
Anytime I contemplate taking a vehicle to the local mechanic to get something done I remind myself how stupid everyone who works there is. If they can do it, you can do it.
Always give the car the shake test before crawling underneath.
>>16333981
>I've never jacked my car up to change the oil.
You must have a ton of ground clearance. I can't even fit the drain pan underneath without jacking the car up.
Hey guys, quick question. I have a F

No you don't.
Advice on getting a car off of craigslist?
Like, whats some bullshit sellers try to pull?
make sure the title matches their id and they're not "selling it for someone" or some other fishy story
have it inspected by a mechanic before you negotiate or pay
Always bring a friend, negotiate on the price, and feel free to walk away at any time. Or don't learn from my past mistakes and buy a lemon. Watch this, it's a good starting point. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=vC8LbvYk6es&list=PLv
>>16333635
get a pre purchase inspection if you have no clue what you are doing.
ask the seller not to start the car before you get there.
be weary off those scumbags who post under the "for sale by owners" section but are actually used dealer scum. Ive gone through this a couple times and the cars were absolutely junk. pic related a '99 subaru forester that was for sale. dude said it only needed new bushings thinking I wasnt going to check below. lol
To my next point. Always look under car for rust, assuming you are in an area where cars rust.
When making an offer, if you arent embarrassed by your first offer, then it isnt low enough. If the seller declines your first offer tell em to make you a counter offer, or just make a slightly higher offer.
I know it sound jewish as fuck but you want to walk away with your pockets not hurtin, you feel me?
>>16333680
>make sure the title matches their id and they're not "selling it for someone" or some other fishy story
this as fuck. I almost bought an '07 Subaru Forester for $4k. The carfax was clean as a whistle and so was the car but the dude was sketchy as fuck and it was reigstered in another state talking about how he's selling it for a friend lol.
Use common sense. If it isnt feeling right, don't pull the trigger.
Oil filter from hell.
Pic related - mine looks about the same.
Any suggestions for removing at this point?
Strap wrench - didn't work, too late for that.
Good ol' screwdriver through the filter - tried that, that's why it's mangled.
Chisel and hammer on the holes to turn - no luck.
Don't put it on so tight - fuck you. Not helpful and I don't know who changed it last or when.
So, my next step I believe will be taking a dremel to the fucker. If I cut between the holes i should be able to pry the gasket off and hopefully then unscrew what remains with relative ease. How concerned do I need to be about sparks? Better alternatives? Will consider burning to the ground for insurance at this point.
>>16333564
no mention of vice grips
Spanner wrench in the in the holes. rig one up. Your best bet.
>>16333569
This when in doubt vice grips get some liquid wrench to lubricate the threads.
Does anyone else not feel bad for people who constantly post their own cars that can easily get stolen on Instagram.
Like I feel bad for dude and hope he gets his car back but what did he expect posting his Honda CRV on TE37s on Instagram? lol

How does posting a picture lead to it being stolen?
When will people finally admit that American cars are good, and that German engineering is a meme?
when american companies stop designing their cars to look like transformers
and when they stop slapping on racey aero bits
americans don't know how to wind tunnel
>>16333536
When GM stops lowering the bar knowing the govt will bail them out.
The German meme thing is already known, but people still buy German because it's a bit more exclusive

Hey /o/, in the market for a car to replace my VW Golf. I commute to NYC for work so I'm stuck in traffic a good amount of time almost daily. Looking for something that has a lot of room, rides smooth, has modern features and has a nice interior. I like the look of the new 15'-17' Dodge Chargers a lot and I'm sure I can find a fully loaded SXT for under 30K. Don't know too much about cars, so what are some other vehicles I should be looking for in my price range/needs?
Buy a Civic and shut the fuck up
Charger is great but go for the R/T trim. V8 is a lot more powerful and more torque which means great cruising, better passing power. Will hold its value in the long term.
>>16333220
Not looking for a compact econobox faggot
>>16333226
I'll look more into the R/T trim, what are some other similar vehicles that you could recommend?
hey guys.
So i really want a truck that looks like a 1980ish ford or chevy with the box flat front "mud truck" look with a lift kit. I have a 40,000 budget. PRoblem is all the trucks i have looked at are old and have problems and rust. Are there any NEW models that look similar to this type of truck? (made in 2006 and up)?
Something with a short bed, lifted (obv i will have to do this aftermarket) and a FLAT front also must be a standard transmission? pic related. thanks
>>16333117
You have 40k in cash for a toy?
>>16333117
Used Raptor?
What're you gonna use it for?
Short answer is no
Long answer is for 40k you could fully restore and modify three trucks like that. You could buy a truck, drop it off at a shop and sign some papers and pick up your truck when it's done and still have cash left over
Pic related is 6 grand worth of trucks and the middle one is even a one ton cummins
What are /o/'s thoughts on rebuilt cars?
>>16333049
Fine as long as they've been thoroughly THOROUGHLY inspected and check out completely. Also say goodbye to resale value.
>>16333081
As someone with a rebuilt, this. I got fucked because this really overpriced shop wrote my car off and my insurance wouldn't take a quote for another, very reputable shop that fixed my car is 100%
Only worth what someones willing to pay. Usually not worth it.
