Is there any good theory resource on gear ratio tuning?
Hiya guys, So I'll give you the short of it, my grandparents are broke. They have nothing to their name thanks to several "family" members screwing them over, the only thing they have is this car and for love nor money I can't find the same model for sale anywhere, I'd love to give them an idea of how much they're looking at here but I'm at a loss for finding anything. All I know is that it's an L type Ford Consul, anything any of you know would be helpful.
>>16403313
What's the year? Looks in great shape
>>16403313
Are you in the US? More details lad.
>>16403336
Look with your fucking eyes does that look like an American car to you?
why did the rotary engine never take off?
>>16402992
Expensive maintenance
complicated for the masses
wastes Oil like a VW
wastes gas like a truck
>>16402992
Probably because piston engines had a shittonne more development at that point, and they never had any company develop them exept for mazda. GM nearly did, they were going to put a 4.something liter rotary into a corvette, but it got killed off just before it was ready.
>>16402992
Someone please make it stop. It's like getting waterboarded with shitposts.
Why do companies make new models of cars every year?
money money
They don't. its the same car with very minor if any difference. sometimes they add a new engine or feature but they usually don't change the outward appearance for 4-5 years at a time and go even longer than that before changing the chassis overall.
>>16402805
So people have an incentive to upgrade to it.
That is literally why. Henry Ford invented that when people slowed down on buying Model Ts, because they already had one.
2004 Chrysler Crossfire Coupé
what does /o/ think of this car.
Chryslel
>>16402691
Unreliable piece of shit that has the interior space of a sports car but no actual performance
Also le dog shitting maymay
>>16402691
Srt6 is fun and can be made into a "sleeper" (in the sense that you're faster than what most people expect)
However the design and build quality are very questionable
I give it a 4/10
Potential project
Never a daily
Is it rear engine'd?
>RF
Would like to see how that would handle.
>>16402289
It's rear engined, rear wheel drive. Its sister car is the Smart Fortwo
With 0.9 turbo engine
What do you guys think about FWDs in reality. People Praise the golf series, 205's, Integras and minis. even abnormal race cars like this nissan
>>16402218
It's inferior. It's just a fact.
Anyone who isn't a retarded weeb knows this.
>>16402218
just like automatics it's good for people who give 0 fucks about driving.
For enthusiasts it's shit and less fun.
Besides your car is unusable if you feel like you want to slap in a LS
>>16402218
FWD is a compromise. It trades in performance for cabin space, lower production costs and better gas mileage.
This isn't to say all FWD cars are absolute shit, FWD is perfectly usable up to about 250-300hp and handling has more to do with how the chassis is set up than its drivetrain layout. However, if you're serious about performance, FWD is the worst platform, plain and simple.

Nice thread, haven't seen it before.
I'm curious to hear how you guys determine how much you're willing to spend on a car.
Do you straight up buy it or do you lease?
I know there are tons of articles and "calculators" out there on sites like kbb, edmunds, autotrader, etc., but I would prefer to hear your opinions and if you're feeling kind I would appreciate your advice on my specific situation.
This is driving me crazy. I need to get a new (used) car but I don't feel comfortable spending more than $10k usd (I make $3300/mo after taxes and spend around $1500 of that on my house and utilities). My parents always bought used high mileage cars, kept them for a couple years, and then went on to buy another used high mileage car after selling what they had for peanuts. This doesn't feel right and I don't know what to do.
Buy a ~150k mile Tacoma and put another 100k on it. Sell it for minimal losses. Really any Tacoma is a good investment when it comes to personal transportation. At least as far as DD cars as investments go.
Vehicles used for industrial purposes are a safe bet. Old vans and trucks are a nice place to start.
>>16401629
>>16401635
Thanks for the advice. Larger vehicles make me a little nervous in tight parking garages though.
Why can't Americans drive manual?
Something so easy a teenage girl can do it in any other part of the world
Americans are perfectly capable of driving manual. It's simply that there is no reason to learn since we can afford superior automatic transmissions.
Americans would rather use their hands to eat burgers while driving
>>16401038
I can.
So yeah, I don't know what the fuck you're babbling about.
is the dually a meme?
what benefit is there to running two normal wheels instead of one wider wheel and tire if the suspension is already modified to accommodate for heavier towing loads?
Much simpler & cheaper to use a tire that is more universal rather than needing special tires for a rather small group of vehicles
Two smaller wheels will also, on a general basis, support more weight
>>16400652
It's a more cost efficient solution so the weight distribution/contact surface issue, also redundancy is safer. I think they might actually be more stable as well but I'm pulling that one from my ass since I just "think" they would be.
>is the dually a meme
I dunno, you see any fucking dually image macros around?
Stop abusing the word meme. If they were a meme they would be long gone like quadrasteer.
what if ur son drives a automatic car?
Break his legs.
>>16400577
I'll fucking kill everyone in this thread
>>16400577
I would accept him for who he is. But slowly distance him from me and my family
Kinda sad really, That I'll hate my own son
/o/, I have a problem. Last week I was putting a lift kit on my jeep TJ, and we had to disconnect the passenger side from brake line to get the spring in place. We put it back on, bled the brakes, and tipped of the brake fluid before I drove it home and it was all fine and dandy for a week, until yesterday. Yesterday I was backing up, and put on brakes but the brake pedal had NO resistance at all and didn't do anything. I let off quickly and pressed it again and it worked just fine. I figured I must have pressed the gas or something instead, so when I got ready to drive it home, it did the same thing two more times. any ideas?
>>16400440
Some guy lifted his jeep and broke it offroading?
>>16400581
Haven't taken it off-road at all yet. I have taken it through mud two times before, but not recently. I have never had it flexed out a lot or any other off-road abuse either. I'm seriously thinking about taking it to a shop, as I am utterly clueless as to what's causing this
Bleed the brakes again and check the connections. Ya dun goofed.

>While a fan of the SC400 (I have another one with 28,000 original miles) I also wanted a look of a Corvette so I had the rear end of the car (there was no accident damage to the car) cut off and replaced with 14 ga steel to give a different look. I don’t know if I like it or not but it certainly attracts attention.
