What's a relatively cheap car I could use to fuck around with in the dunes with my friends on the weekends?

Just something that would be relatively easy to find on craigslist but fairly cheap.
The cheapest I found was an entry level bug on CL for 800 but it was bought the same week before I could make arrangements.
I'm in no means going to take this seriously, it's basically going to be a glorified weekend warrior machine for under 1k.
