I've seen it only one time irl, i was on my bike with a friend going downtown at a bookfair.
we cut time using the old road of the rural town behind our suburban neighborhood, we saw a taxi driver driving slowly road side following a maid blowing kisses and shit, I didn't get if they knew each other or if they had a bike, but then it became very evident when he was telling her to rub him and shit, at one point he got off the taxi and followed her a couple of blocks, The dumb-ass got the taxi open and shit, I wanted to get the taxi and drive it somewhere else for the lulz, I might have done if i had a place to put my bike, a few minutes later the guy came running and drove like hell going away..

What a bizarre view.

>jumping a curb out into the street and cutting off cars

Seriously, I can deal with slow moving vehicles in the city but do you fuckers all have a death wish or something? Adult bicyclists are the worst drivers on the road in my city and easily beat out the texting teenagers and Mexicans getting off of a graveyard shift (and those beat out drunks, the elderly, and public transportation drivers).

Can't into LOGIC, can you OP?

You're an idiot. I'm surprised you can manage to put together coherent sentences without it sound like a 2-year old got at Daddy's computer and was just banging randomly on the keyboard. Must be terrible having to go through life with a two-digit IQ, OP, you have my pity.

..and, of course, what correlates to this, is that since you're documentably dumb, you must be a terrible, totally incompetent driver. Wouldn't at all be surprised if some of these 'incidents' you're complaining about were somehow your fault and not the fault of any cyclist. Tell us, OP, how many tickets and accidents do you get in every year? How many points are on your record right now? Any DUIs? Are you required by the State to file an SR-11? How many times have you had your license suspended? Revoked? Do you have to have insurance that requires you to pay by the month? How much per month, over $100? Come, OP, you're anonymous here, you can tell us.

So, feel free to post images of strange locomotives, or any type of rail equipment which may be considered as "strange" to many.

Ever since my wife started growing a new human I've been thinking of buying a cargo bike.

I know they're super meme, but I think there's a lot of people that would pay more for certain services if the person doing them arrived via bike.

I'm a carpenter/designer and I was trying to think of kinds of services that could be delivered on a cargo bike. Any ideas?

>be me
>be an apprentice carpenter in a honda civic (pre ladder ownership)
>car breaks down bad
>ride a bike with a BOB trailer to work for a week or two
>notbad.jpg

But there are obvious limitations. I drive a van at the moment. I can carry 6m lengths of timber on the roof, and 2.4m sheets of plywood and such inside it. It would be hard to cut down on the amount of tools required in the first instance, but reducing the amount of materials required for most tasks makes me think that carpentry is out of the question...

tl:dr What are some good service-type businesses that could run from a cargo bike?

Delivery company delivering packages. Only viable in big cities, with big congestion of cagers and traffic jams during rush hours.

Yeah, but I'm not keen on being a courier again. It's a fun job for a while, but there's no skills to add to the mix. Most delivery companies are essentially app/customer interface based.

hi /n/

i'm getting my first job this summer and i've calculated that at $9 an hour it will come out to roughly $1600, net.

question is, how should i spend it on a new bike? should i go for an $800 and get fancy shit, or a more expensive say $1200 and just get the bare minimum?

i currently only have a commuter and i try to run and bike every 3 days so i would say i would be almost fit enough to participate in a cat 5 race, but idk because i usually ride solo or with 1 friend who's as fit as me

so how should i spend it?

buy a decent used bike for $800 and a little bit more on kit, spending all your hard earned money from summer on just bike stuff is pretty financially stupid tbqh. And i think you are being a lil too optimistic about racing.......

I.E. (light) trains that run on street. What so great about them compared to buses, light rail with dedicated lines and metro lines?

I don't see the appeal or the advantages. My city got rid of them long before I was born, so the whole idea seem weird, alien and old fashioned. What am I missing?

>>1013406
Without dedicated right of way, there are literally no advantages over trolleybuses.
>>
>>1013411
This.

I think the appeal of streetcars is mostly aesthetic. If they ran on their own ROW they're pretty efficient and can also hold much more people than even a 60ft artic bus.

A bus can have a ROW just like a tram could. Their main advantage is CAPACITY, since modern tram systems (Portland is one of the exceptions) allow capacities far larger than any bus ever could. Here in Barcelona our 2nd gen tram system allows for 60m long trams, which would carry over 400 passengers per unit. For a comparison, a double articulated bus can carry about 180, and will have many problems navigating tight corners.
There's currently a project going to extend the tram into the city center along a street where the bus lane is totally congested and buses slow to a crawl. The proposal is for one tram every 3 minutes (perfectly viable since traffic light cycles are 90 sec, ie one tram every other green light), which would add up to a capacity of about 8000 pax/hour (400 x 20). Right now there's about one bus (~80% are articulated on this street) every minute, which adds up to around 7200 pax/hour and generates such congestion that it's the slowest bus corridor in the city despite having a bus lane. Running more than one bus or tram or whatever every 3 minutes isn't a viable option in the long run, and would allow for just 2400 pax/hr.

>tl;dr a bus and tram in ideal conditions offer capacities of 2400 pax/hr vs. 8000 pax/hr.

Now the thing with ROWs is that if you're going to get all that capacity, and build special infrastructure, you want to take full advantage of it. That's why it's often said and quite true that a 2nd gen tram without ROW makes little sense. They'll just have even more difficulty navigating city traffic than buses.

>tl;dr trams can have much more capacity than buses, and ROW gets even more out of that. Non-ROW'd trams are a waste of resources

My dad keeps pressuring me to learn how to drive but I really don't want to.

I don't even know why, but I look down on people that drive cars. It's something that has been embedded into my subconscious and I can't get rid of it anymore.
It has gotten to the point where I think it is ethically and morally wrong to drive a car.

Am I wrong to think this way? I have walked and used the train my entire life.
I'm thinking about building a bike rather than buying one. This won't be for a couple years down the line since I am in college and a complete poorfag.
What would you say is a good budget goal for building a bike? Don't say 2000 dollars because I don't think I can collect that much in two years.

The way I expect this to work is like computers, where you can build a great but simple system for 800 dollars, and a very fancy system for 1500+.
So in the same way, tell me about the base good types of things I would look to buy and it shouldn't cost more than 1000. Thanks

It's better to know how to, and be licensed to legally operate a motor vehicle than to be unable. You can have a license but not own a car. Assuming you live in the United States, there are circumstances in which being able to carry the kind of cargo or passengers a car is capable of containing matters. Medical emergencies, for example, taking a friend to the airport, or ever being somewhere outside of a city for more than a day, are simplified tremendously when you have the options a motor vehicle affords you.

As far as building a bike, if you're budget-minded, you're really best off getting something used but in good shape from a local shop that has decent components on it.
>>
>>1026932
Nah, you should definitely buy a complete bike to start out on.

Putting a bike together from parts is only cheaper if you already have all the necessary tools, knowledge that will keep you from making costly mistakes, and can source parts inexpensively. The retail price of parts plus the retail price of a frame always adds up to more than the retail price of a complete bike, and that's before you factor in the time and labor involved.
