It belongs here. /n/ is for transportation and mopeds are transportation

If anything bikes belong on /fit/ or /sp/ because it is excercise and/or a sport

Is it autistic wanting to spend a whole day travelling to various stations?

I have done this a few times and enjoyed it. It was good seeing all the station architectures and different areas.

On a foreign environment, yes. I wouldn't do it in my city where I've done it a million times. Although i would ride the bus since I really only ride the same 4 routes out 50 or so.

How do we stop urban sprawl?

If sending your child to inner city schools wasn't the equivalent of a blood sacrifice on the altar of diversity, cities would blossom

Privatized schooling revolution would bring tons of families into cities, increase home values, and encourage more urban development. As of now there are vast urban areas in American cities that are no-go zones for people above the poverty line. They would be amazing places to live and bike if things were different

How do I get started without completely embarrassing myself?

If you are remotely coordinated/competent then it is trivially easy (and if you're 21 and male these things are pretty much a given) just borrow a bike and roll around around a patch of grass, you will pick it up in literally minutes.

"learning to ride a bike" is something 3 year olds, women and cripples do. Just get on a bike and ride.
>>
The more scared you are the worse it will be. Just ride somewhere where any falls won't matter and just get to it. You'll probably be riding by the end of the day
>>
It'd be more embarrassing if you didn't try.

Anyone else ride like an asshole from time to time? I usually only do it on a bikepath or in a park away from cages. But if I see a lycrafag I have to blow past him, I just can't stand seeing those insufferable office-worker weekender faggots riding around in their fancy fucking jerseys and cycling shoes. When I see them no matter what happens to me, I have to go faster than them, I just have to show them who is the better cyclist. I also hate mountain bikes. I'm a hateful person.

>on bikepath
>usually some traffic but not like this
>mobs of people, all pasty fatass pudgeballs or flimsy flabbers on shitty mountainbikes that were probably in a garage for three years
>had to have been a hundred or 120 of them with a tenth-mile spread over the path
>they're riding two abreast in many parts on a two-lane path, meaning oncoming gets fucked
>get pissed
>cut them off, yell at them to get out of the way, whatever it takes to get past them
>have to slam my brakes from time to time
>blow past the entire caravan with a few yells at me
>go all-out speed to show them what my beautiful darling bike can do
>take my exit and carry on to work
>did it all in overwashed khakis with a Trump pin on the back of my bag

Any night riders have spooky areas they avoid because it gives them the creeps at night? I've ridden this unlit section through a park hundreds of times, but everytime I do I get the creeps really bad and hate it. It's not just the fact that its dark, there are other dark and unlit sections of my ride that don't bother me at all.

When I ride after 6pm through the Turkish and Arab boroughs of Berlin. Not good. After I got harassed several times (often they sit in their cars), I started to come up with alternative routes that take longer but are safer.
>>

My parents live a little way off the main street next to an area with a forest and a riverside park where there is a market once a month. The area is completely unlit so it can turn pitch black at night. There's only a small streetlight in front of the house.
I have no trouble riding my bike through that area, as long as the light is working. But I usually walk the long way around on foot, and even then the last 50 meters usually give me the heebie jeebies.

After a motorist didn't give way to me I got into a conversation with him which ended up with a "Fuck off, nigger" from me.

I shocked myself that I could even say that to a person in real life.

Thanks 4chan, you have brain washed me.

hey /n/, this winter break my friend and I will be biking around Los Angeles. I'm from Seattle and he's from Minneapolis so we're not familiar with the area. We have three weeks. We're planning on hanging around Angeles National Park as well as Joshua Tree park. We will be there mid-December thru the beginning of January. Any advice? Suggestions regarding where to bike? Places or roads to avoid? Thanks :)

I personally like smaller private jet-type state VVIP aircraft compared to those big-ass converted passenger aircraft, tho each countries has its own reason (or the lack of one) to use bigger aircraft

Hey /n/, im looking into getting a road bike for transport around uni (and the city), and exercise.

Would a single speed be the best for me? If so, why? Would this benefit transportation and/or exercise?

And where could i purchase whatever type of bike i settle on that wont break my bank? (My budget is about $400-$500)

>Would a single speed be the best for me? If so, why? Would this benefit transportation and/or exercise?

For most riders it is personal preference. You don't need gears for small/medium hills. For a road bike, you probably won't be off roading that much, so you won't need gears. Generally I stick to the 3rd ring for flat/mild hills, 2nd ring for moderate hills, and 1st ring for very steep or off-road hills. I can do basic off roading on a single speed cruiser bike anyway. Mountain bikes are surprisingly useful on commutes though. I find lots of off-road shortcuts. Are you trying to get a really good workout? You will pedal faster on a 1 speed bike. I'm not sure if that gives you more cardio or not.
>>
>>1021354
Not looming for a crazy intense workout as of now. The exercise i would plan to get with it would be like a 4-5 hour ride.

Ive been doing some research and found this:
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fixie-record-dropbar-trackbikes.htm

What are your thoughts?
>>
>>1021363
If you're just getting started in road cycling, I would personally recommend getting a bike with multiple gears. There's no reason you couldn't be very happy with a singlespeed for longer rides, if you lived somewhere flat, or as if the other anon said, that was your personal preference - but if you've never ridden a road bike before, having variable gears will really help you as you start building fitness and getting used to a new kind of riding.

With a $4-500 budget, I'd be looking at used road bikes (preferably ones refurbished by a local bike shop), and I wouldn't bother with anything from BD (they're only good deals if you already have the tools and knowledge to assemble and fit the bike properly).

This is fucking retarded. Am I suppose to believe these stupid motherfuckers recreated the reality of physics to leave literal "light" "trails" from led lights attched to a bike?
