any CA northbay fags excited for the new smart train?

Needs to connect to Larkspur Ferry before it's useful.
>heavy rail with grade crossings
It's like I've gone back in time.
>>1014861
thats how suburban, inter-urban, and regional works
>>1014871
>his city doesn't have grade separated light rail
i live in the bay area. the north bay doesn't need new trains even 1/10th as much as the rest of the bay.
Could someone explain why the train is all new and shiny, but the coupler looks like it's about 60 years old.
Why don't they just make new ones
>>1014884
non-stainless steels develop surface rust very quickly
>>1014884
Will they even be coupled in regular service?
>>1014876
What makes it a "smart" train?
>>1014884
That's just how couplers look like anon
>>1014851
Wow glad to see nobody sits on top of the train anymore
If only they could hook it up to amtrak in martinez and send it down through the east bay and you'd be golden.
>>1014876
It's not a city dipshit. It's a 43 mile stretch.

DUDE IT'S CURRENT YEAR!!
THINGS ARE SMART NOW
GET OVER IT!

They get a train because
1. Marin and Sonoma voted to pay for it
2. Land there is (relatively) cheaper and they had an existing right of way
3. They always wanted a train. Marin even ponied up $300,000 in the 1950s (quite a bit of money back then) to see if it was feasible to have BART run on the underside of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was, but it was incredibly expensive and when San Mateo pulled out, BART couldn't afford to go into Marin any more.
This was the original BART plan FYI.
If only...

Huh?

Not an argument.

Sonoma-Marin Area Rapid Transit

Misread it as "bombay"
I want to ride that train. There's a halfway decent bbq place in the north end of Cloverdale, so maybe I could get a taxi/uber etc to the restaurant.

I'm more excited for the pedestrian/bike path that they are building next to, I've already rode some of the paths and currently they are nice but like all the paths in Santa Rosa eventually they will become a home to the transients
>>1014851
I was, until I heard that the launch date is being pushed to some time in 2017.

People are understandably becoming upset. It's been 8 years and $428 million spent so far.

The bike path will probably be the best thing about this. I Live in Petaluma, so having a secondary route south to Novato is great.
Also fuck Santa Rosa

Where does the bike path start in Petaluma? Also yeah fuck Santa Rosa did you hear of that group of guys molesting dudes on the creek trails and bike paths?
>>1014851
Nippon Sharyo ^-^

>Where does the bike path start in Petaluma?
Looking at the plans, it seems to be just a series of paths that would connect the more awkward areas within our local system of paths and lanes.

Eastbay fag reporting in.
At least they chose a half decent looking train, and a great paintjob and logo to go with it.
Meanwhile in the rest of the Bay Area...
>SMART train
>not electrified
lmao
>>1014851
Yeah- I want to ride it from Larkspur up to Cloverdale and hit the BBQ place up by 128.
