Influenced by "Ubik" by Philip K. Dick and the films: "Inception", "Eraserhead", and "2001: A Space Odyssey"
Pitch:
In the future, space travel is possible. However, space travel is not mastered to travel the speed of light, but you are able to travel light years away with cryogenic freezing, and refrigeration. A rich schizophrenic man goes on a deep sleep trip light years away. While in his dreams inside a cryogenic chamber, his mind builds a world that brings him on a journey in life that no other human being has in cryogenic chambers, and inside the dream that lasts thousands of years.

>brain is frozen
>neurons still active
what did he mean by this
>>9709382
I need to do some research on hibernation then.
>>9709382
However, if bacteria can adapt to ice and move around, then maybe those neurons may be active.
I'm currently read "Animal Farm" By, George Orwell. If you have read the book, tell me on a scale from 1-10, how you like the book.
No spoiler.
Very unrealistic. Could not finish it. 3.
>>9709347
Like, probably a 7

Anything with talking animals is for children
Why aren't you using your storytelling skills in a superior artistic medium like videogames rather than wasting your time with a dead medium you won't be able to compete in any case?
>>9709273
Because I'm not going to learn how to write using autistic language
>>9709279
there's plenty of tools for retards my friend.

>does /lit/ own a library card? or do you buy all your books?
been thinking about getting a library card instead of buying books because it's getting expensive as fuck and I feel like I would actually read the books because I'm on a time limit instead of have unlimited time and not even finishing the book.
>>9709231
Yeah and if you don't finish it just keep renewing it online.
Some libraries even have kindles and shit you can borrow with books on them (for vacation or whatever).
it's a library card dude just get it
>>9709231
Why would you even need to think about getting a library card?
How come nature, more so than the city, is so conducive for the arts, particularly writing?
>>9709212
Cities are part of nature.
Nature is often ugly. If you happen to live in some kind of national park, then great, but go to your nearest forest, it's probably just a bunch of weeds and trees that all look the same. A city at night is much more beautiful 9 out of 10 times.

Can anyone recommend a book or even a blog on public speaking?
>>9709195
anyone?
Most of the ones I see on Amazon look like useless self-help crap

Classical Rhetoric for the Modern Student.
>>9709348
Thanks
Also wonder if anyone knows a book that deals mostly with Style, not content? Something about non verbal communication
What does /lit/ think about Charles Bukowski?
>>9709158
he only existed so Anthony Kiedis could rhyme his name with "house-key"
The equivalent of listening to a podcast with Steve-O or chatting with the homeless alcoholic outside your apartment.
It's entertaining at the time, but after a while you feel sorry for them because they are one trick ponies and you're sick of hearing yet another story about how they fucked up when drunk.
Overly simplistic style that caters to a casual adult audience who don't like regular literature.
Any thoughts on this? I'm thinking of picking it up.
>NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
immediate red flag
>>9709101
This.
JYTs bestseller about money?
Expect to learn nothing about money, or the desert tribe of outsiders currently in control of the distribution of it in western nations.
>>9709101
I've actually read it, it's really good if you're interested in a well thought out history of the evolution of credit systems over time. It's not particularly dumbed down either going explocitly into detail about things like asset backed bonds.
8/10 would recommend.
Fun fact the dude is also married to Hirsi Ali.
Hi, I'm new here! Avid lover of modern poetry so excited to discuss. Ezra Pound's In 'The Metro of the Station' was the first modernist poem I ever read and it changed my life. "Petals on a wet black bough" is for me one of the most powerful ending lines within literature. What do you think?
>>9709023
I like that one but I think Milk and Honey is my favourite modern poetry. Have you read it?
Would someone recommend me poetry which make clear sense? Some poets are too obtuse for me, like Walt Whitman and Yeats, although occasionally one of their poems will make sense to me. I really have been enjoying Langston Hughes, and I also really enjoy Fernando Pessoa.
Mother Goose, perhaps.
i'm going to restrain the part of me that wants to scream "pleb" because your image related sort of articulates that well enough.
if you like pessoa, I would also check out Rilke, who has a similar relationship between lyricism and prose to our favorite portu, also a lot of lamenting on the 'self' and the space between words.
William Carlos Williams.
Don't be wrong to take difficult poems very slowly, and reread it again. Lots of the time they are meant to be read slowly and reread again.
What books can I read to cement my politics?
I'm a dirty fence sitter. I'm going to buy 10 books on amazon tonight.
Animal Farm is a good satire on the shortcomings of humans in a socialist society.
>>9708933
I read it in highschool but I don't remember if I understood it. Is it a fair look? Also I thought it was about communism? I'm more interested in libertarianism and fascism
Mein Kampf
Anybody use these for reading?
>>9708894
Not worth it. You should buy them, drop acid and then play Majoras Mask 3DS with the 3D on full. Shit is lit, my dude.
>>9708894
I actually have some and use them occasionally.
yeah they're ok...
I haven't read a book in over 10 years even though I used to love YA novels as a teenager. How do you get back in to it? Are there any easy entry points in to the hobby?
What kind of things are you interested in? Personally I think a lot of entry level classics are boring but it's hard to recommend someone books without some sort of frame of reference.
>>9708890
first learn how to read, critique, and analyze before you dive into the classics. try critical theory today.
seriously, dont waste your time reading if you cant do the three. and i may get some shit for saying this, but it helps to watch those shitty review videos by wisecrack.
G-guys I still don't have a favorite book
Is this normal?

What's with the butterfly?
does writing comedy for standup belong here?
>>9708814
Probably closer to /tv/'s alley but they wouldn't help. For all the writefags on 4chan there really isn't a good board for writing. We have one (1) thread for it, and only one douchey reviewfag for every 100 writefags.
>>9708814
Depends.
Make with the funny already.
