What's a good book for my /robot/ status? Perhpaps how to boost confidence when you are 20+. Either advices or a story of someone who went thru low selfsteem growing up.

Better yet, is there a good book on how to stop being so damn fucking lazy?

I'll appreciate it and update after reading it

If you're past 20 and still a robot it really is too late, I'm sorry to say it. Look at the life of any great individual and their essential character will have formed by at least their mid-teens, and from then on their conduct and disposition will have followed a rather predictable course, in most cases being one of gradually greater success in their chosen field. Laziness and apathy are each signs of an easily contented individual. While a genius will be burning internally with a fire that will not quell until he meets a standard of perfection he ruthlessly pursues, the average lumpenprole will go through life either whimsically unaware of anything beyond their stable routine and culturally inherited pleasures, or will otherwise succumb to the most base forms of self-pity and self-loathing, each of which is largely a sign of a narcissistic and entitled personality. And that's why I don't date white "men".
>>

So should I just off myself?

>it really is too late
for what exactly?
>great individual
well good for them.. I just want to to see the results of someone who had lack of confidence, but did something about it somehow
>>
>>8319507
Yes you should. Again, confidence or no confidence, if you haven't asserted yourself on the world by the age of 20 in some form there is zero hope for you. Either you possess that inner drive or you don't. Even the most sensitive and pathetic-seeming writer is in actual fact a very narcissistic and selfish individual determined to humiliate their competition.

Soulseek (p2p), Gutenberg, Libgen, bookzz.

Gutenberg is a real treasure if you are a new reader.
>>
>>8319451
Gutenberg's main shortcoming is that for German and Russian texts the translations are always done by the worst fucking translators with no availability of more than one translator in most cases. Gutenberg's great for entry level but Soulseek is where it's at. A lot of Libgen files of good translated German and Russian works unfortunately are ugly as fuck because they're just manuscripts put under a scanner.

Does anyone know a book (non-pulp) where the protagonist is NOT any kind of an underdog, is very competent in his field, confident (at least outwardly), perhaps aggressive and dominant, with few moral restraints and no crippling flaws, but also nowhere near being a wish-fulfillment self-insert?

Begin with Edith Wharton imo. End: never.

Just read Edith Hamilton

but for some sources:

The Iliad & Odyssey - Homer
Theogony - Hesiod
The Argonautica - Apollonius
Pretty much every Greek tragedy
The Metamorphoses - Ovid
Life of Perseus - Plutarch

How long do you think it'd take to learn German to the level of being able to read Nietzsche/Goethe? I'm already semi-fluent in a Germanic language (Swedish), which has some similarities...

With a copy of Loeb's Civil Wars and Wheelock's latin primer I learned to read latin very poorly in a few months. German is far closer to English so I imagine if you get one of those dual language books and a good German primer you can do the same.

Alternately, move to Germany.

>I'm already semi-fluent in a Germanic language (Swedish), which has some similarities...

they're similar by being apart of the same language group but it's not like it will take minimal effort to pick up German as it would be Danish. they're still pretty different languages

Post based Ezra Pound and similaminded poets.

My OC

The pill I take is red
The pain is feel is real
The future I see is brown
I want to hear them squeal
Walking about town
I see degeneracy
Where did civilization go
White men fallen into complacency
Wake up, wake up and see
And make the future bright
Be proud be proud to be white
It's in our hands to make things right
Deny and you will perish
With those who did not cherish
The glory yet to come
You don't want to be wrong

I think the reason /lit/ is so obsessed with IJ is that most people here are kids, millennials, and the book is basically a dictionary where every entry is about how the generation after Gen X will be completely fucked, the people will be desperately addicted to everything and the political situation will be frighteningly horrible and the enviroment will have already gone to shit and basically it's going to be a real bad time for young people
He was off by ~5 years, but he was absolutely right

not sure he is worth the time really. most people on lit seem to have read him and i wouldn't trade places with them if i had cancer.
>>
too bad the writing is horrendous
>>
>>8319165
>most people here are kids, millennials
little bit off
some are millenials, almost nobody is a 'kid'

the book's main premise is the issue with entertainment and irony, something your average college sophomore isn't too interested in

/lit/'s obsession, on the other hand, comes from IJ being 1. the big hot thing, 2. a funny, quirky and 'challenging' (theoretically speaking) novel, and 3. the magnum opus of a very, very memetastic author.

>Sure, the disease- the inner illness- kills. nevertheless, it's the symptoms - right?- which disfigure, which denude, which scrofulate and scar and maim. it hurts, we say, but we don't care a howl about it; we never cared about it before the pain came, only until the pain came, only because the pain came (perhaps that's why we have to suffer now); and we don't care about it today. we care about the presence of our feeling. period. we want it gone. soonest. make the pain go away doc; rub the spots out; make the quarreling stop; let the war end. peace is the death we rest in under that stone that says so. [...] peace is everybody's favourite teddy, peace is splendiferous, and it's not simply the habit of the sandy-nosed. it's the "get well" word. but after all, without a symptom, what do we see? without an outbreak of anger or impatience, what do we feel? without a heart-warming war, would we ever know or care or concern ourselves with what was wrong? the trouble is that the wrong we care for is soon the war itself, the family wrangle, the bellyache, the coated tongue, the blurry eyes, the fever-ah- the fever in the fevertube.

Was he right?

Hey /lit/. So I've had to read the book shown in the thumbnail and I've read some response papers towards the books central topic. one paper in particular says that the novel shows Rick Deckard's last day in the business of bounty hunting, which doesn't make sense to me. For those of you who have read, or even studied the book, does it explicitly state any where in the text that Rick quit his job at the end of the book?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8319045
Not to my knowledge. Surely you would remember if you just finished reading it?
>>
>>8319107
Thats what i was thinkning. Although it seems expected that Rick would quit, but i dont think he does. Mercer tells him that he should do what he does in order to attain the repect for android lives, and no where does it explicitly say, or really even suggest, that he does quit his job.
>>
>>8319211
Maybe they read the sequel where he Spoiler Alert! quits his job.
