I just picked up On Being Blue and In the Heart of the Heart of the Country. I read 10ish pages of each, just kinda flipping through. I'd agree it's a bit much... I mean, it's nice sometimes, but overwrought. Probably the right word.

Again, I haven't read much at all. Looking forward to actually reading it though.

Not OP, but I too have been wondering this. I write prose all the time but whenever I try to get into poetry it seems so formulaic to me, so rule-driven. Maybe that's just me being negatively influenced by some of the /lit/fags, though.

Create a universe that's interesting and work from there. Character-based works are hard as shit and not for the level you are at.
