Every time I return to reading this book I fall more in love with it. Why do you like or dislike it /lit/?
I see a lot more talk of Ulysses or Dubliner than I do about FW, what's the explanation for that? And, I have no idea what my pic means.
Too much thesaurus wankery for me.

This.
>>8321334
this. literally anyone with a thesaurus and too much time on their hands could have wrote it
What did you think of them? Who's your favorite character and why? Who's your least character and why? Did you watch the anime or is this your first contact with LOGH unvierse?
Least favorite character*
Did you not read it or do you now want to participate in this discussion? If you didn't read and like war dramas and space operas, this is pretty much top tier, and it's a must read.

anon no one apart from anime fans know this novel, even then Lit will never take a japanese novel who as been adapted into anime seriously
the weird frontier between post irony and new sincerity are these millennials the saviors of literature?
Holy shit how did I get back to three hours ago?
Literally all you need is Joyce, Nabokov, and Borges. Nothing else matters.
But you'll miss the deep intertextuality present in all of them.
I can't take Joyce seriously anymore after reading his fart letters to his wife.

Good... that's how he'd want it.

So apparently a while back a translation of Diary of a Short-Sighted Adolescent by Mircea Eliade came out recently. Anyone bother to read it? For that matter any Eliade fans? I've just starting reading him a while back. I'm not religious but I find him interesting.
Do you think Pynchon is an anarchist? Do you consider his writing anarchist?
Anarchism play heavily into Gravity's Rainbow and Against The Day, less heavily into The Crying of Lot 49 and Vineland, most of his writings are vehemently anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist, and anarchist heroes & anti-heroes show up in just about every one of his books.
Is it simply an adoration of anarchism and its followers or do you think he is genuinely arguing for it?
Who knows. He could just be a memer.
>>8321155
It could be because you have more to work with with anarchism. But anarchism always grabbed the attention of youth culture, especially in the 80s and 90s, so if he sold out that could be a reason
>>8321155
I think he's a Left-leaning pragmatist
What are some philosophies that prioritize the body over the mind?
What did he mean by this?
Practically everything from Plato on until pragmatisim
Anything that finda a division between body and mind will favor the mind usually
The existential phenomenology of embodiment, especially under Merleau-Ponty
Foucault's radical denial of the ontology of transcendental subjectivity
Materialist emegentism (process philosophy?)
I Need some help from /lit/
I have an idea about a book series that would be foyr books long, and would be a parody of the usual high school drama.
What are some books that are about hugh school. They can be good or bad
Thanks in advance! :)
>>8321116
The only way to make a parody of high school drama these days would be to spend a few days at a high school and write down everything you see.
What do you think of the books published by Dedalus and are any of them good?
Does this have a bunch of suicide letters? I can't find a ToC or anything.
>>8321298
I have it senpai
>>8321300
What's it like?
I read the better part of GR high on weed and am fairly certain that it was written that way as well. The book seems to fit that state of altered consciousness perfectly. Anyone have a similar experience?
I read the better part of GR in throes of the mental illness that is consciousness and am fairly sure it was written that way as well.
"I was so fucked up while reading it, I go through some passages now and I don't know what the fuck it could have meant."
I read it with the lights off and it made no sense

Anarchy and Anarcho-Capitalism has to be the most meme-tastic philosophies.
>le strongest deserve everything
>I rape my mother and mutilate my sister because lol ANARCHY
>rules are for FAGS what have ROOLS( which == DROOLS) ever done for people?
>HURR DURR kill and destroy, base pleasures
>>8321058

>>8321110
Stirner is also an edgy meme
Stirner should not be read
Does anyone else feel a disconnect with translated literature? 95% of the time I will choose to read something written in English. When you read something in its original language there is a real connection there. It is like the author is speaking to you. Some of my favorite books are translations, but it's a different experience. It's not the author's voice. The craft of the word is tainted. It's like a remake of a classic movie. It will never be as good. Thoughts?
merp
So, I have never read any of the philosophers but I am trying to start reading them.
I fell for the Start-with-the-Greeks meme and got Plato. Once I'm done with pic related, I'm going to start looking at Aristotle.
What the fuck am I in for guys?
>>8320984
pure virtue, that's what
For some sleek Greek rhetoreek.
What do you mean "what am I in for"? Just fucking read it. Why do you people make these threads? Also I would go Ion - (Euthyphro) - Apology - Crito - Phaedo - Meno - Republic - Symposium.
>of great import
>due to circumstances
>comprised ofif you have to look this up, leave /lit/ forever
