A butcher boy who gets dragged up in an epic war eventually gets hired to torture sorceresses from the opposing army.

It'd basically be like the Citadel parts of Shadow of the Torturer but made into a full novella/novel.

Everything is genre fiction if it's fiction, my lad. You name it, I can put it on a particular shelf at Barnes & Noble.

>The contrast of the two moralities described by Nietzsche ties in also with his theory of the Eternal Recurrence.

>Master morality accepts his 'being' as it is. Naturally there are some things, once encountered, that one should try and avoid, but 'everything' in his world must be accepted as part of life. He AFFIRMS life. By life, of course, I do not mean respirating in a body, but the milieu man encounters from when he enters this world to when he exits it.

>Slave morality believes and strives for wide swathes of life to be done away with altogether, as uncomfortable and unnecessary. He DENIES life.

>M.M. is best seen in warriors of all civilizations that desire a strong, resourceful enemy to pit himself against, to test his love of life to the fullest degree. S.M. seeks to do away with all perceived enemies. M.M. almost invites tribulations as a means to test himself. S.M. does not want any tribulations or hardships to be encountered.....EVER!

What do you think about this explanation of the master and slave morality, /lit/? From this, it seems to me that the "master" morality just means you're a retard with a complete lack of capacity for higher thought.

>This is the new standard of bait for /lit/
>>
>>8322865
>In its most distilled sense, M.M. is acceptance of every facet of life for what it IS, and I will cast myself upon it to test my mettle. S.M. is an attempt to mold every facet of life into what "it SHOULD be" so I don't have to continually test my mettle.

Maybe this dude's interpretation is wrong?
>>
How are his ideas different than the ones presented by the stoic philosophers? He just copy pasted it all.

what's are the best translation of this work, /lit/? I've already been warned against Heaney.
Is the Swanton translation a good choice? What about Tolkien's?

to be honest, I'm not really an expert on Beowulf, I just heard stuff along the lines that Tolkien's sucks balls big and that it's no wonder that he didn't want to publish it

/lit/ do you have any recommendations for good dramatizations of plays? Classics preferably like Chekhov, Ibsen, Strindberg, Moliere....

Noone? I thought lit liked plays. Plays are patrician.
>>
Thanks OP you just reminded me to rewatch Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Patrick Hamilton and Tennessee Williams and all those from when theatre was viable against cinema are a great hunting ground, but for most classics you're going to get things like Branagh's Shakespeare etc.

What the fuck?

How do you go from the awesome play on Canterbury Tales that was Hyperion to "teleporting around the universe with the power of love"?

Don't knot but I recently finished Hyperion and I thought it was cool. Is the sequel worth it?
>>
>>8323808
I couldn't finish it. I think the Keats clone was a very dull character
>>
>>8323808
If say yes, it's a bit more daffy but I found it very satisfying. I'd say skip the Endymion duo though. I really enjoyed reading them but ultimately I think they detract from the ending and universe.

What is the Final Fantasy of books?

Dunno, but my criteria would be as follows;

>Ironic Name
>Consistently declining quality since series midway point
>Significantly more effort put into presentation than plotting
>Protagonist is inevitably the least interesting member of an ensemble cast

They'd still know him as "that dude who wrote about a cruel dictator" and wouldn't need to ignore his prolific, much superior body of work like they currently do. And my and his compatriots would still say they're proud of him, while having never read anything he did (not that they could take the surrealism).

>"Why are breakfast foods breakfast foods?" I asked them. "Like, why don't we have curry for breakfast food?"
>"Hazel, eat."
>"But why?" I asked. "I mean, seriously: How did scrambled eggs get stuck in with breakfast exclusivity? You can put bacon on a sandwich without anyone freaking out. But the moment your sandwich has eggs, boom, it's a breakfast sandwich."
>Dad answered with his mouth full. "When you come back, we'll have breakfast for dinner. Deal?"
>"I don't want to have 'breakfast for dinner,'" I answered, crossing knife and fork over my mostly full plate. "I want to have scrambled eggs for dinner without this ridiculous construction that a scrambled eggs-inclusive meal is breakfast even when it occurs at dinnertime."
>"You've gotta pick your battles in this world, Hazel," my mom said. "But if this is the issue you want to champion, we stand behind you."
>"Quite a bit behind you," my dad added, and Mom laughed.
>Anyway, I knew it was stupid, but I felt kind of bad for scrambled eggs.
