i believe in solipsism.
I. AM. A. GOD.
said my ex-gf.
i broke up with her instantly.
I never had a proper father figure, so I'm looking for recommendations on writers or figures who are strong, authoritarian and disciplinary men.
I'm thinking along the lines of Trump and Hitler, who can be role models.
Are there any other great thinkers who are larger-than-life in this sense, as if so: which books can I read?
They have to be strong men

I think he's ok. He's good if you have no idea what you're supposed to be getting out of a book. If you're the sort of person who says things like "I didn't really relate to the characters and I thought the plot was a bit slow and boring," then you will get good insights out of him. He's a worthwhile listen to get started on analysing a book but he shouldn't be your only source.

>The 00s have BolaƱo's 2666

It seems that the best book of each decade of the 21st century so far was written in Spanish. Are authors who write in other languages even trying?

What's the book of the 20s?
>The 00's have Mason & Dixon
>The 10's have Bleeding Edge
It seems that the best book of each decade of the 21st century so far was written by Pynchon. Are authors who write by other names even trying?

How old are you? Twenty what?
I'm roughly 4/5 through, isn't this book supposed to be depressing? So far it's just a bit gloomy at times but nothing too bad.
i thought it was supposed to be hilarious, and it was
>>8322613
Non slavs that claim to understand this books humor are probably lying, to be honest with you friend
>>8322618
It has plenty of jokes anyone can understand.
Anyways, no, mate, it's not a depressing book, not in the traditional sense. For some people, the insipidity of human society in the book can be upsetting.
Just got Jack Kerouac's"On The Road" and Tom Wolfe's "Electric kool aid acid test". Getting into beat and hippie counterculture. The books any good?
>>8322536
>Getting into beat and hippie counterculture
Kill yourself, degenerate untermensch.
Electric Kool-aid is boring for what it is but for some reason the book stuck to me. Read some Hunter S. Thompson too.

W-what
I read "difficult" literature like Joyce, Gaddis, Milton, Eliot etc
Yet why is playing a video game or watching a movie sometimes more appealing to my sensibilities?
Because you get a visual stimulation.
I think the idea that if you read proper literature all other forms of entertainment or artistic experience will seem futile to you is a stereotype people have and a few precocious young people try to live up to.
Most books /lit/ memes about arent actually good. Theyre just poor philosophical/wank essays disguised as fiction
Inb4 that retard who says plot dosent matter and all there is to fiction is wanking over how the prose sounds ( kys if you think this)
i have kind of a silly question.
i don't start my school semester for another month, and until then, i don't have any friends or anyone to talk to. this makes me very lonely, and sometimes, especially while reading nonfiction, i will feel very lonely.
i think this is due to me not knowing how to appreciate the literature enough, and i'm puzzled. ideally, i'd like to learn all day for the next month as i have nothing else to do, but i feel exceptionally lonely, making it a lot harder to read, and much more comforting to turn to things like the internet for instant gratification.
i'm a relatively new reader, and i feel that i just don't really appreciate the literature enough, and i don't know how. this sounds pretty stupid but i'm just curious whether or not any of you have experienced the same thing, and if you have any advice for me. thanks
But what impulse are your distractions satisfying if, lonely as you are, you probably don't have anyone to talk to online? Like, what gratification are you getting from the internet that you wouldn't get from a book?
>>8322562
like i said, i don't know how to properly appreciate a book i guess.
a book, to me, requires more dedication. while i'm in interstitial spaces, it becomes very hard to continue, i guess, whereas you can essentially go on the internet or to television to get a much easier form of entertainment.
i guess i just need to work on it more.
What have you read prior to this? If it's nothing but fantasy and YA you might want to start low.
I'd suggest reading something like Moby Dick if you want a moderate challenge.
Are there some books about ennui, alienation and all that shit that are relatively recent (80's to now) and won't be utter shit to a guy in his late 20s?
Everything that I find that hits these notes is aimed at teenage girls
Money - Martin Amis
My diary desu senpai
Human ennui and alienation haven't really fundamentally changed in nature since ancient times.
What has changed is the maladaptive coping mechanisms people tend to adopt; but even then the differences are only superficial.
Don Quixote is essentially his time's equivalent to a Neet with a WOW addiction.
Comic or not, this is one of the most beautiful things in the human canon.
Does /lit/ like Flex Mentallo?

go post this shit in /his/
I'm not a native speaker and I want to improve my English, which are some good websites or books I can use? Do you know any good chrome or android apps?
Pls respond

Duolingo
Other than that keep shitposting here and everywhere you can. Inmerssion is the best way to learn any language. Start watching and listening to stuff in english. Is ez.
>>8323301
Stop pushing the immersion meme. It helps, yes, but it should be a learning aide, not what one entirely relies on. If you don't know the way sentences should be constructed then you're going to have a bad time.
this or the oxford edition?
>>8322420
It goes without saying that Oxford is always preferable to penguin, but I can't speak for this specific translation.
