Could someone explain teleology to me?
I mean, how does one tell what any given object's telos is? Say, the telos of a rotten tooth?being Socratic here there's more to come
There isn't a telos of a rotten tooth, a tooth rotting is the failing of a tooth to fulfill its telos.
>>8758442
Does the rotten tooth lack a telos, or is it merely failing to fulfil its telos?
>>8758495
it cant very well fail if it doesnt have one, can it
just read the definition online it's very clear
>tfw too sincere for this irony-saturated modern culture
Anyone else know this feel? Are there any books where a romantic character copes with the nature of ironic post-modern consumer and social media culture?

Have you tried the /pol/ redpill? We're recruiting and looking to re-establish a time before degeneracy and the things you describe; ideally a world akin to the '50s with traditional gender roles and racial segregation.

I'm about to start reading the Illiad. I have the Barnes and Noble Classics translation but my last translation from them was garbage trash. Would anyone recommend a specific translation of the Illiad?
Post the translator's name...
>>8758144
Excuse the 4 pixel image I was provided
Ennis Rees is the translator
Pretty much most people agree Robert Fagles has the best translation of the Illiad for first time readers. If you want a more stylistic translation there are others but Fagles is pretty solid overall.

Is poetry only worthy of reading if its in its original language (non translated)?
>>8758045
depends on what you want to gain from it
"Poetry" is too broad of a descriptor to give a proper answer to this question. It depends on the type of poetry.

in our times, is poetry still a thing?
>in our times
>is poetry still a thing?
Poetry? That timeless immateriality? Sure
>>8757882
Sort of. In academic circles it's still a thing. Outside of that, not as much as it used to be. I'm lucky enough to live in a town with two universities, so there are regular poetry readings and "famous" poets come to town for readings and Q&As.
But for the general population, the only exposure they get to poetry is through song lyrics. I guess in a broader sense songwriters - or lyricists - are the modern poets.
So bow down before our new Poet Laureates, Kanye and Lady Gaga!
But true poetry, the Keats and Frost and Dickinson poetry that many of us studied and enjoyed in school, is no longer a thing.

What are your feelings about Stephen King?
Feel free to leave really long answers
>>8757868
He has a few very good books. Has a lot of shitty ones.
Made a decent living for himself.
>>8757871
Which ones do you consider to be really good then?
Eh, IT is pretty weird and creepy, he was obviously on a shit ton of drugs when he wrote it. Thats about it, everything else he did is pretty meh and he only has like 4 or 5 characters essentialy
What's the difference between poems and poetry?
Poetry is the art, poems are the medium.
