Is the Penguin translation of the Critique of Pure Reason any good?

No get the other one
Get the Pluhar or Cambridge edition instead,its way better.
Avoid Penguin
I'm thankful for based anon recommending this book to me. Having only read one book previous I had a good impression of DeLillo but didn't know where to go on from there. If I ever see any books of his at a used bookstore I'll try not to skip out on them as I have done before.
>>8759410
That's his best one. I hope it was me who recc'd, though I know the people truly familiar with his work on this board often post similar sentiment.
>>8759417
did you make a ranking of every work of his that was on a thread with a pepe pompadour'd asking where to start with his work? and then subsequently asked about individual books?
>>8759439
I may have been in that one but no, he has a lot of stuff that I plain genuinely wouldn't recommend at all or rank.
Has Christianity been able to recover ever since this Frenchman BTFO the whole religion?
>>8759385
Voltaire took down a strawman of Christianity. Any person with any sort of grounding in Platonic/Aristotelean philosophy alongside a decent education in Patristics, supplemented by Aquinas, can see that Voltaire did nothing in the grand scheme of things, except sway the uneducated and unrefined. Christianity, particularly Catholicism, is a very long way from being 'destroyed' by any modern ideological adversary.
Hell, Kant probably did more to 'destroy' Christianity, and that was unintentional.
The only man who had the vitriol of Voltaire, as it wouldn't be difficult to have a finer philosophic mind, would be Nietzsche. He did more to 'destroy', but Nietzsche only addresses that which is noble to fight against. His attack on Christianity is his praise.
>>8759393
How did Kant hurt Christianity?
>>8759476
well he did cut off Wolffian Metaphysics, so the imaginary basis of the ideas of God and the Soul in science was gone.
Wasn't a deliberate attack, or might not even be considered 'hurting', but it definitely is an inconvenience.

A cask by losing centre-piece or cant
Was never shattered so, as I saw one
Rent from the chin to where one breaketh wind.
Between his legs were hanging down his entrails;
His heart was visible, and the dismal sack
That maketh excrement of what is eaten.
While I was all absorbed in seeing him,
He looked at me, and opened with his hands
His bosom, saying: "See now how I rend me;
How mutilated, see, is Mahomet;
In front of me doth Ali weeping go,
Cleft in the face from forelock unto chin;
And all the others whom thou here beholdest,
Disseminators of scandal and of schism
While living were, and therefore are cleft thus.
A devil is behind here, who doth cleave us
Thus cruelly, unto the falchion's edge
Putting again each one of all this ream,
When we have gone around the doleful road;
By reason that our wounds are closed again
Ere any one in front of him repass.

Have not read it, but his poetry is god-tier.

Spanish masterrace, I can read a translation of Pessoa and 80% of words and syntatic structures are the same. Sometimes even rhymes are preserved!
I want to read novels that deal with, either heavily autobigraphical or plain fiction, with the childhood of an author. The only thing I can think of right now is pic related.

Heh, nah senpai.
We're far from where we once were
And farther from the end
Father before and
Father after
Will see this trail again
It stretches longer
Than Ama's braid
And Ama's drops are in our eye
And the ground is dry
And the kids will die
And our legs can be healed
But our homes are gone
This ground becomes our beds;
Our graves
I used to enjoy walking.
