Horrible but extremely popular writers.

Dan Brown, JK Rowling.
>>
He's literally better than 99 percent of people who ever attempted to write seriously.
>>
It's ironic and also fucking balls to the wall retarded that this guy once gave advice to aspiring writers that they should cut everything that can be cut. Stephen fucking King, of all people, saying that.

what's you favorite film adaptation? For me, I'd say it's either The Great Gatsby from 2013 or American Psycho. DiCaprio and Bale ideally personified their characters and both directors perfectly rendered the atmosphere of the prose from books.

2013 Gatsby is one of the worst films I've ever seen
Actually got nauseous watching it
>>
Never read the book, but the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy movie was a masterpiece.

This. I like Moulin Rouge but Baz Luhrman's adaptations are heinous. Romeo + Juliet was the worst thing I've ever seen.

I'd fight you irl. Kidding, I don't know, it's just my little foible. I fell in love with this movie and it's hard for me to imagine how can one hate it. You didn't even like implementation of modern songs into the soundtrack? For me it was so refreshing and fascinating.
>Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Thanks for reminding me there is a book. Saw this film few years ago and also loved it, gotta rewatch it someday.

Are kids lit worth reading as an adult?

I've never read stuff like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a child.

>>8965830
yeah, if you read for the plot
i really love harry potter
>>
Alice in Wonderland is a great read even as an adult
>>
>>8965830
there's two kinds of kids lit (which can overlap).

It can be written retardedly, and kids like it, because they are the only ones who could like it, because they are stupider than adults. The adults who write these are stupid themselves, and calling themselves children's authors is sort of a cop-out.

Other kids lit can just be something about kids, and kids lives, about dealing with school and parents and shit, so kids relate to it.

The latter can still be good as an adult.

Just bought this, what am i in for /lit/ ?

Any good literature on the "proper" use of psychedelics?

I know beneath all the pseudo-spiritual Bill Hicks shit there must be some actual, practical, psychotherapeutic use for it. I even heard it's making a comeback in wonk-approved psychology. So please guide me.

Anyone else get sudden flashes of absurdist thoughts throughout the day? They come and go quickly, with no warning. Things like "why does getting ice cream makes me happy, it's meaningless", or "why do people work, when they are all going to die anyway". Despite disagreeing with these thoughts, they keep coming.

What are the rec absurdist/existencialist literature I can get into so I can make sense of these thoughts?

>why does getting ice cream makes me happy, it's meaningless
Your brain's designed by evolution to seek sweet (aka full of carbohydrates) things, hence it makes you happy to get them
>why do people work, when they are all going to die anyway
Because not working leads to early death from starvation.

Seriously, what is up with teenagers these days, it's basic shit man

>This piece of shit

I saw a thread on /lit/ about this, but didn't really look at it.

Then I went to Waterstones today and saw STACKS of this fucking thing. I picked one up and read a few pages.

Holy fuck. How does win a prize? How does this get published? It's the most trite, sentimental shit. There's no poetry in it. No discernible talent. These are the sentences you'd expect of a teenager, given line breaks to look like poetry.

Do I just need to be a feminist PoC/minority to win at life?

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
