I think you're trying to think too hard into what a gay man would want in a partner. I know it sounds counter-productive but personally, I'm gay because I like men... so as far as fem appearances go, that's not at the top of my list.

I'm not saying you should "butch it up" because you already said you do hyper masculine things and hang out with a lot of guys, but really the only way to make gay friends is to do gay things. Go to gay venues. Go to a gay bar, have a couple drinks. Be more open about it.

Invite a couple of your more open-minded straight friends along with you. As much as they deny it, straight guys love the attention they get at gay bars. But try not to think of it as a constant race to find a boyfriend or someone interesting. Think of it more as a cultural learning experience.

In my experience, the most friendly gay dudes are middle-aged bears and drag queens. Your mileage may vary, of course. And of course once you make a couple gay friends don't be afraid to invite them along to your camping and drinking and what not. Gay guys are usually already into that stuff or jump on an opportunity to do something more "masculine" and/or just be accepted in another activity by a group of straight people.

Your situation is certainly pretty unique. And a lot of the points I've made are very generalized, boiled-down, and kinda raw. It all deserves a grain of salt. But I stand by putting yourself out there a little more. Explore some more. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get some real answers. If nothing else, gay dudes are painfully honest.
