1911 Thread.
Who has built one? Reliable side arm or target practice/show piece?
>>34646491
the latter.
>>34646491
I love 1911s. They are the most beautiful handgun ever designed, and their level of comfort for both shooting and carry are unsurpassed.
BUT, it's a steel frame handgun with minimal capacity. Its grip safety is shit. It's thumb safety is fine for those who want it, but it's inability to fire in double action makes it mandatory which is a problem. It's insanely heavy for a modern carry gun, and 'lol get stronger' is not a good excuse. Most don't bother getting commander or officer size pistols, so the 1911 is universally thought of as fuckhuge, which most models are. Basic models, even from reliable manufacturers, are not particularly reliable by modern standards, and though it CAN be a very accurate platform, most people don't put the effort into tuning their gun to get it there. It's maintenance intensive and prone to rust compared to modern pistols.
1911s are great, but they're great showpieces and well built ones are fantastic competition guns. No model of 1911 is suitable for modern combat. Carrying one for self defense is fine if you're okay with the weight and your philosophy is a gun to help you get away. It is not intended for prolonged firefights, and would likely not stand up to any modern handgun in such a scenario.
tl;dr - I like 1911s, and might even carry one because I don't think I have to be John McClane saving everyone in the world, but I wouldn't recommend it for serious use in any capacity.
My first 1911 was a Seraphim Armoury Thunderbolt .45acp. It was decent enough to shoot in the local IDPA matches. Now I'm looking at a used STI Ranger 2 for IPSC and IDPA.

It's called the dickwave, basically you just pop open your fly (hardest part is dealing with the fucking button fly) and then you pull it out and just sort of wave your dick at each other. Obviously you don't do it if senior leadership is around but if you know the guy is cool that's what you do? Can't do it as much anymore because wimmenz but you still see it fairly often.
How long were combat planes supposed to actually face other fighters during WWII ? I mean in Dunkirk the spitfire shoots down at least 4 enemy planes, wouldn't he actually run out of ammo well before that ? How many planes could he realistically engage ?
>>34646396
it depends. A skilled pilot would only need four shells to kill 4 pilots. Headshot or spine shot pretty much used to guarantee the plane going down.
With good trigger discipline and aim I would imagine 5-6 planes if the spitfire had 4 20mm cannons with 200 rds a peice instead of the .303 machine guns
>>34646396
Not impossible, but unlikely for a Spitfire Mk. I. The .303s lacked punch but carried quite a bit of ammo.

How do I apply Cosmoline? I'm storing my guns for a while in a shed that is not climate controlled and the shed is in a very hot and very humid environment. I don't know how long I'll be gone for, possibly a few years, so I want to preserve the guns with Cosmoline. I have absolutely nobody who can look after the guns for me. Not an option. They're going to be in secured storage alone.
How do I do it? Just fill up the bore, chamber and coat the outside? Will it damage my plastic guns or wood stocks? What about stainless steel? How do I prevent the Cosmoline from drying out? Can I just put the guns into trash bags and tie them off? Or do I need something better? Also how much Cosmoline do you think I will need to preserve four rifles, a shotgun and three pistols? It looks like I can buy a quart, a gallon or 5 gallon buckets. Or I can buy it in spray cans. Is the spray on stuff any good, or is it to be avoided?
Also who offers agreed value insurance for firearms? Just in case the shed burns down or dindus raid it.
>>34646046
Don't use that nasty earwax cancer causing bullshit. RIG is superior for long term storage in my opinion.
>>34646046
Why are you falling off the grid for several years? Did the feds find your CP folder?
so I got me one of these fancy cz 75's you fellers are always talking about.
How am i supposed to carry this thing with one in the chamber, cocked and locked?
recommend me some good wood grips and a holster please.
>>34646012
In a good holster cocked and locked or in a good holster chambered with the safety off?
Are you trying to conceal it?
I had a very hard time finding a good holster for the CZ SP-01 so I just made one, its really not that hard and it works great. Even though its owb it conceals very well under a long shirt
>>34646012
Do you really want to carry it cocked and locked? I would carry with one in chamber with hammer decocked.
Found this at work any idea what it is? Old toy caps? Starting pistol blanks? Nail gun cartridges? Pretty sure the h on the back is for hornady
>>34645676
Looks like starter pistol blanks.
nail gun cartridges
