What was the best small arm of WW2?

All factors included, from performance to cost.

Honestly, it would probably have been the StG 44, or a similar weapon.

Considering we still use intermediate caliber assault rifles with 30 round magasines.

Sure it was expensive, but It was miles ahead of something like bolt action rifle, or even a garand
>>
>>34645107
The M3 was about $25 ($200 today) and I'm pretty sure remained in service as a tank crewman PDW into the '80's though
>>
>>34645131
How can you lift an elephant with one hand?

It is easy misunderstand you, when you want someone to think of 2 opposite parameters.
>The best performance
>The best price
>>
>>34645233
Keep in mind what was fielded at the time. Warefare is different now than during WW2, and intermediate cartridges (and firearm designs) have came a long way.

STG44 was a strong concept but it's hard to argue it was the best weapon of WW2, as it certainly wasn't the most influential (battle rifles were popular before intermediate cartridges).
>>
>>34645278
ALL FACTORS INCLUDED. Two factors, at opposite ends, were used as examples to encompass all between.

Again, the question itself was simple, and you were confused by the prompt.

I'm assuming you're a non-native English speaker, so the lack of comprehension is inoffensive.

Correction, M3 cost was $15

The only reson battle rifles was popular was due to american autism, refusing to accept anything less powerfull than the 7.62x51 in NATO, while all other nations wanted an intermideate cartridge, similar to the 7.92x33 or 7.62x39.

Bren/Type-99/ vz28
Extremely accurate
Not too heavy
Ergonomic
Can be used in multiple roles (LSW, MMG, GPMG, DMR) not to mention reliable though the type-99 wasn't quite as sturdy as the Czech gat not as accurate

Or just Americans
Apparently many of the English teachers there got sick of getting shot/raped by bla- I mean Americans

Ask stupid questions...
There can be no single "best" small arm.
A bolt action, scoped rifle is best for sniping, but sucks at house clearance.
A SMG is ideal for urban combat and assaults but lacks the range for open battle.
Machine guns are ideal for putting down a lot of fire on an area, but require lots of ammunition to remain effective.
Get the point yet?

Type 99 wasn't even related to the Bren/vz26 (I think you mean this. Because the Br(no)En(field) gun is a licensed version of the vz33 which in turn is a modified vz26).

There are best guns. Post best guns. ALL OF THEM.

Is there any downside to belt fed weapons? Like are tangles an issue or is just because of weight that most guns feed from a box mag?

Why isnt something like pic related more popular?

Because a belt fed semi-auto is retarded

If you get tired of your grease gun, you always can keep the fun with a Ingram M10.

How much did the (2nd gen) FG-42 cost?

Because it has all of the qualities that a modern battle rifle has. If someone came out with the design in the 2000s with plastic instead of wood I don't think anyone would have batted an eye.

I'd vote for an M3 as well but I think M2 carbine would be better overall.
>>
>>34645080
mg42 probably killed the most and was pretty cheap at $100 which you could get 15 for the cost of maduce, almost 2 for a bren, and 3 for a BAR
stg costed less than a garand so thats probably a contender
the garand at $31 is probably the most cost effective rifle
The sten is cheap as fuck but you could have a grease gun for a few more rupies and a mp40 for a couple more than that
>>
>>34645080
>best small arm
Doesn't really matter senpai. The war was won with heavy artillery and nukes. The best small arms were fielded by the losers.
>>
The Owen gun
>>
>>34652562
No PPS43/SVT40 were fielded by soviet union as well as best arty (ML20 and BM13) and best tanks (KV1/T34/IS2)
>>
>>34645596
>>34645236
If we're including every possible factor, then no. The M3 saw very little combat use in WW2, being a late entry in the war, and the first batch had various issues.

Now Korean War, that's the M3's war.
>>
>>34645080
I'm going to include spiritual successors and say all Soviet SMG's in 7.62x25. That wall of lead was nothing to fuck with.
