I was looking for a hog rifle at the LGS today and came across what was described as a pre-ban SKS for sale. The only difference was that it accepted AK mags and had a different bayonet from others I have seen. I haven't found a tremendous amount of info from google or gunbroker. Any help would be appreciated. It looked like pic related.

If it's got a bayonet or bayo lug it's pre 89. The chinese switched to the spike in 1965.
The Ban reffered to is ALWAYS the 1989 ban on importation of of non sporting semi auto military pattern rifles, if the Norinco was imported after 1989 it was to have the bayo removed and legally cannot have another installed unless the rifle is brought into compliance with 922R which is what the ban reffers to, prior to 1989 can have the bayo without 922R compliance parts.
Technically this sks is fucking ruined if any permenate aftermarket mag has been added. If you just want it for a hog rifle and it's under 400 I'd do it.

There is also a little known rule from 1993 that if a firearm is converted from a fixed magazine to a detachable magazine that the ATF is to be notified. This is not related to any ban but seems to be in response to SKS AK mag conversions. The rule doesn't state approval is required but it may be implied.

Thanks for the info. The counter guy said it was made in the early 90s and was factory modified to accept AK mags. So, not technically aftermarket. It also had the spike bayonet.
It's on consignment for $675, don't know if that's an fair price or not.

I went 16. Partially because I didn't see any kits with 20" barrels, and also because I like the handiness of a 16'' barrel over the longer 20'' (I realize it's only 4'', but still). I wanted a easy to maneuver rifle that could reach out while still being a little bit on the short side.
I don't think 20" barrels are inherently much more accurate than 16" barrels, but 20" is the "correct" length for a military build I guess. 16" gives you the shortest barrel with a non-pinned muzzle device too, which is nice. 14.5" means you have a pinned muzzle device and that cuts down on your options later on.

The 50 cal armament was fantastic against fighters.

The 2 is pug fugly to be certain, but the trigger is actually single action now instead of DAO like the originals. Can someone with an LCP Custom or an LCP 2 comment on the triggers?
