What can the Marines do that the Navy and Army combined can't?
>>33321640
Be commanded by the Navy for operations directly related to the Navy
your 100,000 ton displacing mom.
Take excessive casualties and think they are tough because of it
Why do we have this culture of veteran worship? Is it warranted?
>>33321321
As someone who came up in a household with a long tradition of military service what I was was always told was "You ain't gotta like a but better respect him if he is willing put his ass on the line for his country" Makes sense but I guess I understand how some people feel that is overdone.
>>33321351
But if people feel that way why not serve themselves? I also feel like civilians don't realize the staggering amount of shitbags we have in the military as well as the noble patriotic types
>>33321379
Even sparta had cobblers and potters
So these 2 are vying to be Russia's small MRAP. The left is Typhoon-VDV which carries 30mm and has an unmanned version and is heavier while the left is Tigr and has a version that carries 8 Kornets with automatic reloading for 16 more inside. The Tigr also has other versions like a command post that only carries 4 Kornets but has a radar, also has a version with a 12.7mm autocannon and a version with a radar. It is air droppable and has an unmanned version. But it is lighter, which is susceptible to IED, and is less balanced than the Typhoon.
Which would you pick?
>>33321275
>Which would you pick?
The one from the company that gives me the bigger bribe.
>>33321275
VDV looks more modern. Going purely by looks here.
>>33321275
why not both
What would a new conflict with North Korea look like? How devastating would it be on South Korea?
If NK has nukes, then pretty devastating.
>>33321201
Seems like every time I read something regarding a rekindled Korean war, it's mentioned that Seoul is within range of nork artillery. Is there an effective way (besides preemptively bombing the fuck out of the north) to neutralize that threat?
>>33321743
>Is there an effective way (besides preemptively bombing the fuck out of the north) to neutralize that threat?
No, but the sorks have long factored that into their strategic situation and run drills to public bomb shelters in case of such an event while the military mobilizes to curbstomp the Norks
Is there any reason why ammunition used for naval guns is never used for land-based artillery? Why doesn't the army have a cannon which can use 5-inch (127 mm) ammunition?
Because heavy arty hasn't seen use seen WW1
>>33321179
Name one use for it that isn't being covered already.
>>33321179
They'd have to share the ammunition then so they'd each have half as much.

>WASHINGTON — The Obama administration’s Pacific rebalance effort — also known as the Pivot to the Pacific — effort is officially dead, according to a top State Department official.
>Asked by reporters about the future of the rebalance, Acting Assistant Secretary of State Susan Thornton said Monday that the new administration has its own plan for the region, even if that plan has yet to take shape.
>“Pivot, rebalance, etcetera — that was a word that was used to describe the Asia policy in the last administration. I think you can probably expect that this administration will have its own formulation. We haven’t really seen in detail, kind of, what that formulation will be or if there even will be a formulation,” she said
>the Pivot to the Pacific — effort is officially dead,
HAHAHA
JAPS, COREANS, TAIWAN, FLIPS...
BOW DOWN TO YOUR CHINESE MASTERS!
CHINA WON. AMERICA FAILED.
Noone in China washes their hands after peeing. That's fucked up. We need to start discussing ways to bring in more awareness to this.

Correct link.
they had the greatest war cartridge in history...why was it abandoned in favor of an inferior replacement?
>>33320858
It's very, very fucking heavy. There's also the need for fire superiority over accuracy.
>>33320904
Fpbp
I don't understand why people some people hate this cartridge.
Let's get a 30-06 love thread going. Something like pic related was babby's first hunting rifle
>>33320858
air and mechanized support became more and more widespread and the need for an individual to be lethal decreased.
Why are the owners of plastic and aluminum .22 caliber hobby kits the biggest shit talking sperglords on the planet?
>>33320570
I think you mean AR kits.
I've never known an avid .22 fan to behave like that. Typically they tend to be the geeks of the gun community so to speak.
Gear-queer tactifags are by far the biggest shit talk offenders.
>>33320611
.223 is .22 caliber
>>33320570
Do you have any examples? I've never met anyone who took .22 seriously. Only for fucking about and occasionally target shooting.
I can understand why the military would use intermediate cartridges so they can carry more ammo for the same weight, but why do civilians also buy guns chambered for rounds which, BY DESIGN, are a compromise? If you want cheap ammo for plinking, you may as well just stick to a 22 LR. If you want a serious gun for serious shooting, get a full-sized rifle.
stop making this stupid fucking thread
Don't forget to sage guys.
>>33320529
Not an argument.
>>33320472
Because I want a compromise between serious shooting and plinking.
So im bored, and have alot of machinery in my garage, not precision stuff, but metalworking equipment non the less, i want to make a bolt action rifle out of as much improvised shit as i can, can you help make me a parts list where i can find most of the shit at home depot? (wanted to be in .308) lets make a hobo tier rifle

Gunbroker Edition
What is the best deal you ever got on gun broker?
>>33319616
got a 10/22 receiver for $40. and thats the extent of deals on GB
>>33319616
Get deals all the time. Just gotta know how to look.
Once got a $300 pistol slide for $25 because the seller had it listed with a poor title instead of a proper one.
I've never gotten a good deal. Everything worth buying sells for close to MSRP unless the seller is retarded enough to do something like>>33319949 while also magically not being retarded enough to put a reserve price on the item (that's typically 1.5x MSRP or more).
Tell me how stupid it is to want a old
>want either a Charleville Musket or a 1853 enfield
>I know I would never fucking shoot it, maybe one outing a year
>want one because of muh history and because its fuck huge
It's only dumb if you don't end up liking it.
>>33319553
I want a bolt-action rifle built in the 1890s, with ammo that costs 1.30$ a round.
I don't even know why I want it, but by god am I going to try and get one.
If you want to get a musket, go for it.
>>33319712
