How does the ATF catch people who have illegal weapons or ammunition?

Seriously, it seems like they only have a reasonable chance at catching dealers and milita retards who publicize their disobeying the law.

>tfw cant decide between 22lr rifle or shotgun

Marlin 60 vs maverick88/Stevens 320

OR some cheap single shot shotgun

I genuinely can't pick
And yes, I'm poor
22 pros
>really cheap common ammo, can shoot more
>train rifle marksmanship
>apparently always fun
Shogun
>versatile and practical
>can do fun shell stuff
>can be used for defense

Get a Maverick 88
>>
>>35015339
Why
>>
>>35015334
It's pretty simple, if you live somewhere where you can just shoot on your property, I'd recommend a 22 since you'll have tons of fun just pinking shit or getting better at target shooting which will lead to you getting another gun, if you have to go to a range or you can only buy one gun, go with the shotgun, you can pretty much do anything you want with it hunting wise and it's more than adequate for self defense.

As >>35015339 said get a Maverick 88, they have parts comparability for most things with the Mossberg 500 which has a ton of aftermarket, the Stevens has pretty much nothing. I have a 500 and still prefer to take the Maverick hunting since it's cheap enough that if I lost it it wouldn't be too bad and it's moderately lighter but I've still put over 1500 rounds through it without issue.

Are grip safeties retarded? Is a grip safety even measurably better than a manual safety? I like the aesthetics of 1911s but I seem to have a hang up on the grip safety. Am I being stupid or are there issues I'm not aware of?
34 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>35015205
Well they're retarded in that they don't make the gun any safer, so they're pointless. But they don't really break and cause malfunctions or get in the way either.
>>
>>35015205
To me, their "meh"

I have no complains against them on my 1911. I don't really pay attention to it. Any normal grip on the gun and it isn't a problem. Loaded the safety is on anyway. I don't pay attention to the grip safety.
>>
It depends. Colt's 1903/1908 Pocket Automatic has an amazing one- it's more substantial than the thumb safety.

The grip safety on a 1911 is fragile, and I ignore it. They fail, eventually.

Where did you get that picture, as it isn't a normal 1911. Is that from a Schwarz safety-equipped Colt?

Where did the "kinetic energy dump" theory of wound ballistics come from? Did Martin Fackler start that nonsense?
22 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
People were looking to find a scientific way to prove X caliber is better than Y caliber or Z version of heavy for caliber +p+.

All while thinking hydrostatic shock was a thing so therefore rounds with more energy were more damaging regardless of shot placement or penetration.

Nevermind that the human body is compressible, hydrostatic shock is virtually non existant with pistol rounds, and because both the target AND bullet deforming means the collision is the definition of elastic and therefore kinetic energy is not conserved.

I just like to make jokes that the extra KE dissipates as heat from friction and liquifies the target's heart, brain, and spine.
>>
Gun owners are dumb and regular people dont science too well.
>>
>>35015029
never heard of a specific starting source but IIRC it was originally based on observations of low game reacted to being shot with higher energy rounds(more likely to be DRT) and gained legitimacy through the works of certain medical professionals during WW2. Pretty big with that whole generation.

Fackler was a proponent of the opposite ideology, that ballistic pressure wave is a non factor even with higher energy round. He was a medical professional with experience from vietnam i believe.

What are good cheap carry college/poor-fag guns?

I got no money, I got no job (So I can't "save" money, doesn't mean I don't have a right to the 2nd amendment)

I don't need a house/car shotgun or .22lr or mil surplus rifle

I need a good all around gun, pistol and handguns fits all the bills right now

To those with anger issues or just easily pissed off, how do you handle that when doing your day to day business? Also does it effect your gun hobbies and do you feel comfortable about yourself owning guns and handling them knowing about your anger issues and such?

Have you ever dealt with a gun owner that had anger issues?

I almost lost my control and ran out of my truck and brake a man's neck but didn't but i dod shouted fuck you while flipping him off while fighting the urge from jumping out of my truck and murder him.

I didn't see him on his bike and had to stop immediately because he wasn't stopping and when i stopped so his ass can continue to troll along with his bike he shook his head towards me with his cigarette in his mouth which threw me into pure rage mode.

Now starting to have that urge of wanting to break his fucking neck again...
>>
>>35015081
Similar thing happened to me as well but instead a man just walts right out infront of me when I was driving down a suburban area. Didn't see him because there was lots of bushes along the road and this fucker just decides to jaywalk infront of a moving car which luckily I managed to stop in time.

He looked at me and just scoffs at me which made me completely lose my shit and pulled out my knife that I carry in my jacket and got out of the car holding it in my hand. He suddenly frozed when I shouted "Do that again and I cut your fucking throat open!" He just left before I suddenly realized what I did. I quickly got in my car as he left and just got the hell out of there. Fucking jaywalkers fucking goddamnit! Never been that pissed off before and felt stupid for doing that as well but he made me so mad.

Simple as that.

What upcoming military tech are you anxious to see in use?

For me it's HELLADS. Once this is powerful enough and compact enough to mount on planes or vehicles it will quite literally mean the end for missile effectiveness. It'll be the biggest game changer in a long time.

So can we talk about budget optics for a second?
> you always pay twice as much for the scope as you did for the gun

This has always sounded like some D'Beers level kike bullshit to me, most hunters don't need a 1000 dollar infrared scope with surround sound and a cup holder.

Why would something like pic related not be perfectly fine for 90% of hunting rifles which make up the primary use of long rifles?

What does Bubba and uncle Jim need a 1200 dollar night vision scope for? So they can get drunk and shoot each other in the dark?

What's the deal?

You're right, just buy Leupold scopes. Even rich white safari hunters who spend tens of thousands on weapons and scopes tote of Leupold's durability and functionality.

I'm not, Leupold makes high end to common man scopes. Their 3-400 dollar scopes are what you're looking for.
Isn't this what you wanted anyways? Someone to tell you that you're right and what brands sell affordable and reliable scopes?

There's an indoor range I'm close enough to that rents out a full auto Thompson, but only doubles can rent, and I have no friends unless you count this board as a friend.
I was thinking and my grandmother lives up that way near the range.
Would a mid 20's dude bringing his little old grandmother to an indoor range to rent a lane be frowned upon? Is it a bad idea?

Does the Governor/Adjutant General of a state have any control over how his state's guard is outfitted?

Example: can the Governor say "I want my guys to have a regiment of Abrams tanks" and have it done? Or "I don't want my air national guard to lose their fastmovers" so do they get to keep them or no?

Basically I'm asking how much control a state actually has over its own National Guard force.

Probably not directly.

A lot of unconventional sway though.

Like maybe Hawaii can have more naval assets for their NG like boats or like Kentucky could get more tanks to guard fort knox or something. But they'd probably have to pitch in more from the state budget.

Basically it comes down to requesting/lobbying, though. right?

Like, Pennsylvania can ask for her A-10s back and Harrisburg can throw a buttload of money at Congress to sway them, but there's still no guarantee of them getting anything?

Or Montana can lobby for new helicopters to patrol the nuclear missile fields, and their Governor is good friends with one of the Senators on the Appropriations Committee.
