So /k/, I own shotguns and handguns but no rifles yet. I was thinking about a Savage Axis in .308 but then I thought "What would my grandpappy do." How much would I be looking to spend for a Springfield 1903 or M1 Garand or worst case an M1A1 Carbine? And what is a good place to get them from considering Bud's doesn't have any.

I got the opportunity to try out for a nearby scout unit. The indoc is soon and I don't really know much about what it takes to be in the unit.

Why doesn't the US Army just buy off the shelf vehicles like the CV90?
I understand if they want to design a MBT.
But wouldnt it be so much easier to just buy support vehicles that are already developed.
Just to get a decent APC and IFV in service.

They did trials during the GCV alternatives analysis, they found that the Namer provided amazing protection, but was extremely heavy. The CV90 couldn't carry the required number of soldiers, but could engage any threat short of an MBT. We should have just bought Namers, but added a 30 or 40mm Bushmaster since they're manufactured partly in the US.
