It depends on your state. In my state someone in between the ages of 18 and 21 can legally straw purchase a handgun or have it gifted to them by a parent or guardian. Until they are 21, it has to be transported like a rifle, locked up in a case out of arm's reach. No CC or OC.

Just go to a gun show, find a private buyer, half the time they don't give a shit, especially if you look old enough and aren't splurging. I've been buying handguns since I was a teen, but no fucks given in rural Georgia. Thank the Gun Control Act of 1968 for that bullshit.
