ITT: Little or big things we hate in the industry and around it

for me its the word 'art'. i fucking despise how people use the word instead of using illustration, painting or drawing. its like people are either fucking lazy to say the whole thing or they just fulfill their definition of the word and glorify their own works in the process.

fuck art, fuck everyone who calls themselves artist and fuck every single piece theyve done. fuck salvador dali and his arrogant obnoxious nigger mentality.

I'm a teenager who wants cash money this summer by painting shit. What is the most lucrative type of painting for a kid with a fair amount of talent? Nudes? Portraits? Houses? (Note: I live in the middle of Connecticut) I've considered doing landscapes live, but my mother told me paintings of people's houses and families are better.

Incase's stuff doesn't really grab me most of the time. I mean it's good it just doesn't catch my eye as much as some other people's work. This one is really appealing to me though.

Things that you do to save time/effort on your art. I'll go first: when I don't want to fill up a canvas, sometimes I'll paint a silhouette of something like a tree or building that conviently fills up any excess space. Pic related.

Is it possible to make digital art look traditional?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2524859

there's this mullins painting of a wooden shack sitting in some dense forest. it looks unbelievably traditional. i don't have it anymore but even the psd in floating around on the internet somewhere.
>>
>>2524859

Yes. Digital art can't simulate the complexity of brush strokes yet, though.
>>
>>2524859

Usually it's pretty easy to distinguish traditional from digital.

Made this as a visual example for a DM. It is supposed to be a magic circle and eventually a magical symbol. I am wondering what I could do to give it a more magic type of feel and or could you give it a try? Anything would be appreciated, Thanks!

OK /IC/ im 18 years old and have found myself with a lot of free-time and no real skills. I've wanted something to work on that's not just vidya and Ive been getting really into drawing..But would you guys say I'm a bit too old to start getting into art seriously and maybe looking into somehow making this a career as a sort of dream/goal? I've been drawing on and off since I was little but Ive never taken it too seriously until now. I'm not a total beginner I guess and I'm out of the symbol stage so any advice for me or something?

you can pursue it as a hobby, but it really depends on how good you are if you want to make it a career. post stuff online; a lot of people will berate you, but in the same crowd there will be people that will criticize and give advice
>>
>>2527646
Well I can put allot of time into it anon like 4-6 hours a day.. also are there any artists that start near my age and get big? (my goal isn't to become big or anything but it would help my confidence a bit)

Ok guys, who and where do you follow? What intresting sites you got? Some cool site you'd like to share?

The only decent one im following on youtube actually is Proko (prokotv) I guess, got some channel called Art of Wei but its nothing special.

I lack any kind of source to view various and intresting artists (beside deviantart where I didnt go for a long time).

Got only this guy https://www.artstation.com/artist/maniaks that looked like he makes some cool stuff

Beside that few sites I find usefull
http://www.quickposes.com/ (good for gesture learning)

Pretty much what it says in the subject. I have heard that the spray looks like shit, but on the other hand, I have also heard that not applying it will fuck up the charcoal drawings in that they are delicate to smudging especially when storing them in between other papers.

>>
>>2527451
Fixative on charcoal isn't as bad as other mediums like pastel. But you should try it out for yourself rather just asking the internet. If you find that it flattens your drawing too much you can always go over it again. And this sort of goes without saying but you should work on proper archival paper if you want to use fixative, on newsprint it won't really do shit to preserve your work.
>>
>>2527491
Ah ok. I'm sure it works well on charcoal drawings, I was more wondering whether it is bad if you don't apply it, If it will actually damage the drawing when storing it. For example, I would be worried about smudging and other damage when storing a bunch of drawings in a stack.

I know trying it myself and experimenting is the best option, I was just looking for input from people who have used it before.
>>
>>2527491
Oh and another thing, proper archival paper is just acid free paper, right? I'd assume most sketchbooks come with this kind, so I think I am good.

How do you "get gud" at gesture/sketching?

Competent artists can convey what something is, how something should look relatively quick and easily (pic related) It isnt perfect, but it conveys an image, things are fairly symmetrical and proportioned well enough.

But my sketches are never that, I've been drawing seriously for maybe 4 years now, maybe more, and i struggle with just quickly conveying a scene or character in the way i envisioned it.

What needs to be practiced in order to effectively describe something in a sketch? What should be practiced to make sketching an easier process?

Not baiting, but post your work.
The issue with asking these questions is that the answer is different based on what the individual has issues with.
