Anyone know about this guy? I found his channel on crimson daggers. Why don't more people post his channel on ic?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0Qbw7Wlsgc
Some good info there, but his style is too rigid and stale for me, proportional divider, colour checker and so on.
It's interesting how his inspirations are really good painters like Sargent, but his own work lacks style.
A good technician but ultimately boring copier of what's in front of him.
>>2524708
did you just refer to his tools as his style?
>>2524710
Perhaps his method was a better word for it, his use of all these rigid tools ultimately turns out very true to life, but dull paintings.

Is this the future of art?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHVD7WYd2RU
For once, yes. No, it's not replacing anything, but it'll be an amazing tool once it gets cheaper and more fleshed out.
>>2523445
>and more fleshed out.
Agreed.
>>2523447
seems impractical as fuck actually and unless monitors will be entirely replaced by VR headsets, people will view it as a flattened JPG anyway.
I guess without the Wii-fit wiggle shit, I could see artists changing to this instead of 3D programs though. It's basically the same thing just more intuitive for artists.
>want to make money from drawing porn commissions
>its completely dominated by Art School drop outs or Graphic Designers who have way more skill
How does a hobbyist like me compete with them? Say what you will about art school, but ive noticed some that go through with it wind up being alot better than self learners, and usually always end up making decent money from drawing porn after they inevitably drop out.
Git gud is only way. You're giving art school too much credit. You can be just as good and better. The only reason it seems better is because art school gives you the structured environment to keep focused and in routine. If u can do that by yourself you're golden
The problem with the porn community right now is, because a lot of popular artists are college art students/graduates/dropouts, the community is infested with SJ cliques.
While it might not effect your business now, if the "community" doesn't approve of you, they can bar your entry for higher up positions, as a lot of people move on from porn to professional careers and still stay in their old cliques.
Don't worry about skill in the art community. The artists might be stingy but your average porn consumer does not give half a fuck what your technical skill it. There are plenty of conventionally "bad" hobbyist artists who make it in the porn scene.
Most of these "bad" artist are also not part of the college kid groups, and don't suffer from being pretentious liberals.

The main reason art school gives you an edge is because you are surrounded by competition.
And an environment that forces you to keep producing content.
If you want to emulate this just find some friendly rivals or competition. But don't become like half of /ic/ and focus more on hating some random fuck instead of improving your own shit first.
they say it takes 10,000 hours to reach mastery.
how many hours do you think you have covered so far, since you've been taking art seriously?
At the start of September last year i got serious and started counting the hours i put in. since the end of last month i put in 882 hours of drawing. below is some stuff i've done so far.
I'm curious about how far into the journey other anons are on here whether you want to post your work alongside or not

>>2509822
In my opinion it is dangerous to focus too much on numbers and counting hours. If you focus on that it is easy to lose out on the quality of the practice. Art is mental, and a repetitive grind and numerical approach is not the right one for it.
Have you ever made fan art for a YouTube show you watch just because?
>>2524559
No, I draw fanart of those people because they give me publicity if they retweet it.
>>2524559
i don't know of any youtube show that is hosted by a cute anime girl so no
>>2524559
No, but I'm a big fan of Redlettermedia and have been meaning to draw Jay and Mike for a while.
Attempting impressionism, oil on canvas
>>2522408
If you look at impressionist paintings, you'll notice that although they are stylized, the landscapes are still very believable. I think it would help you to do studies of landscape from observation, and then try impressionism again once you're more adept at conveying a realistic scene.
>>2522413
I know, I dIdnt use reference for some reason, thought it would just be a sketch. Also I only had like 2 drops of white
Looks like you painted a background and then dotted lines on it instead of having dotted lines make up the scene
Hi

I saw this video maybe a year ago or something, and it sparked nice discussion here. So I was thinking, maybe we could link some similar videos of academies which show students working and the place in general.
And do some of you have any experience in any ateliers/schools that produce contemporary realists?

wtf is happening with that dude right eye at 22:12?
Hey /ic/ I'm interested in trying to get an art mentor and was wondering what might be a good way to go about doing it. I figure that just asking someone would be presumptuous.
>>2521430
Mentorships don't really exist in the same way that it used to. I doubt you'll find someone skilled willing to mentor you for free. It would be an extremely rare situation if it happened.
>>2521435
I'm not really in need of instruction (I have a lot to improve on but I already have a lot of resources that I am learning from), I just rather need someone to talk to get advice from and their opinion on how I'm progressing or what direction to go in. And I'm not expecting this for free, I'm completely willing to pay, in fact I'd rather pay to be honest.
>>2521444
Do you want it in person or via the internet? There are some paid mentorship things online that exist, but I forget who runs them and what they're called. Maybe another anon can chime in.
Otherwise you can try sending emails to people you admire and hope they are willing to take you up on your offer (if you pay then they are more likely to do it).
Does anyone else find it difficult to draw standing up? I'm all shaky and shit.

Why don't most artist ls draw sexy thicker women? Why are they always skinny and unrealistic.

Because they also draw men super buff and unrealistic.

Oh look it's this thread again.
I'll be the first post to say don't bump this thread because I know idiots are gonna argue like shitlords and keep this thread alive.
Is this the new post work thread?
Finished this last night. Critiques?
Hello. I thought I'd share a text I wrote. Read and judge if u wana I guess
The years after the internet:
We didn't really know what to say at first. We were all in the light testing out wether or not people would accept us. After a while people became so honest, because we were so tired of pretending, that it inspired revolutions, throwing empires to the ground!
People started moving all around the world, no longer trapped behind their invisible cell of patrioism.
Years after, the world had become a calculated jungle. People were all used to each other and fully confident in expressing themselves anywhere. It was just like the paradise Lennon wrote about in 'Imagine'. But the years it took to get there were long, tough, honest and true.
Hopefully that's the future we are heading to.
