What's /ic/'s opinion on Krita?
I tried it, liked it but I'm struggling to find brushes that fit me.

I hated it, impossible to work on large canvasses with it. Ton of lag painting with larger brushes, for some reason it will cap your brushsize at 200px while using hotkeys to inc/dec it which is super annoying. I like that it's opensource, but it just doesn't compare to PS

guess i should've worded it better: what's the best way to get web exposure for your art?

been trying hash tags, putting it into groups, and posting my art up everywhere... not sure what else i can do.
>>
>>2526692
Your work probably isn't good enough. Good art naturally attracts attention on its own as people share it and like it and so on. Social media can make things go "viral", but it needs to be good for that to happen.

>Is there a mathematical formula to beauty?

Short answer: Probably yes.

Here have something about pattern theory and how can it be used to make better user interfaces:

http://bridgesmathart.org/2012/cdrom/proceedings/20/paper_20.pdf

A bit more about pattern theory

http://www.csee.wvu.edu/~xinl/courses/ee565/MumfordICM2002.pdf

Generally study also tessallation and while it has meme status now, fractals. See L-systems and how thanks to them one can generate shapes of plants and trees which are generally pleasing to human eyes.

Waves (which are also beautiful) are described by II order partial differential equations. Flow separation often creates beautiful shapes too and it can be all modelled with the use of FEA fluid dynamics. Also cracks, though those all above things are strongly non-linear.

Soap bubbles also form shapes that can be mathematically described. Last but not least, mathematics of emergent systems is a thing.

tl;dr Yes, there are formulas to beauty, but you and probably rest of /ic/ are too much of a stupid faggot to bother at all.
>>
>>2528512
Yes, it's all the physics of things. Light, movement, anatomy, etc. If you can understand the science behind the world in front of our eyes, you can figure out how to create something beautiful.

HOWEVER, pic related is the best painting of all time. If you disagree, you are simply wrong.

Is re-drawing existent drawings actually helps to improve?

I think so. It helps with control and line work. I used to trace stuff long before I ever tried drawing freehand.
>>
I'm not talking about tracing sorry if my post was misleading i meant like looking at a drawing and trying to re draw it if this explains better
>>
>>2528288
Well yes and no.

It allows you to understand some techniques and bases, but after awhile you'll only be able to know that specific drawing.

Lets say for instance you perfect a certain pose and show people that skill, when they ask you to do it in a different pose you won't know how to typically because you've spent time learning how to draw that one specific instance. You know the reasoning behind it, but can't apply it elsewhere, so while your skills have improved, it's only marginally. Now using a wide variety of reference material is a good thing though, tons of artists actually do that, but they don't focus on a singular picture for instance, they have varying poses, lighting, tilts, etc.

Happens surprisingly often. I'm sometiems tempted to contact them and say 'Hey, remember that commission we talked about? Are you ready to send the payment?' and see what happens. kek. Honestly think these dudes that forgot in the first place might be so autistic and scatterbrained that maybe they'll just send the same payment a second time.

Ofc it sucks if then he remembers and you actually have to do the work.

How do you not feel guilty at all? Someone paid you to do work and you decide to not do the work and keep the money. I'd return it to them if I didn't get the work done in 2 months. But hey, I guess I have morals.

Hey /ic/, i have been using photoshop for a while actually, but there is one thing that really frustrates me. i keep seeing this grungy texture in brushstrokes that really adds something to paintings that i like, but i have no idea how to replicate it. it doesnt look like a texture, but more like the brush itself is randomized and somewhat grungy. its hard to explain so yeah pic related
maybe its really obvious and im just a retard but i really want to figure out how people do it.
pic belongs to bayard wu (hes pretty obviously amazing)
cedric peyraverney has this grunginess in a lot of his art too.
if anyone knows something, id really appreciate help. i know my way around brush settings/tips usually but i feel i cant replicate this sort of texture at all.

Some of those look like normal brushstroke with textured brushes. Have you downloaded different sets and experimented with them?

Otherwise if you use the mixer brush you can get that type of texture very easily. You'll need to set a texture to it and put it on height though.

Post digital illustrations that you consider to be so mindblowingly, absolutely ceiling-hittingly cock-hardeningly good, that they sit easily above what 98% of artists would ever possibly be able to achieve. basically shit that is just the best of the best of the best.

if you post mullins and the usual suspects try to be selective. try to post even their work that is their very best.
