Has anyone done these? Are they good? I personally love Jake Wyatt but that price tag is prohibitive.

Hey /ic/, I'm looking to try my hand at animation, sketchy line art, b/w style. What's the best way of making it? I've never done it before, all I know is the old school method of drawing each frame individually, or something something adobe animate.
And following that, what are good and easy ways of turning what I make into a gif or webm?
Thanks senpai

-Buy Animators survival guide
-Get copy of Toon Boom for "Flash styled" animation
or
A copy of TVpaint for traditional animation
(Watch YouTube step by step videos to learn above programs)
-Practice and practice and study your favorite animators.

Thanks for the advice, though I'm not looking to make a career out of it, I just have a couple of ideas and I would like to animate them

is porn an effective use of references? sometimes I'm reading doujins and it feels like the artist is just tracing porn scenes and changing the heads to be in their own style.

is this the key to cashing in on the horny nerd patreon bux? just trace porn?

There's nothing more shameful than ending up the subject of one of those compilation images where anons juxtapose a hack's drawings with the pictures they traced them from. Learn the difference between reference and tracing, and if you're trying to draw things that the public will view don't cross that line
>>
>>3099477
lol who the fuck is that
>>
This question makes no fucking sense, sounds like you're talking about 2 different subjects. Also, is it effective for what exactly?

Please share some stories of awful experiences you've had with clients.

Because there's this one guy I'm currently working with who's having me do character designs for his stupid game, and he's driving me insane. Easily the most nitpicky and demanding motherfucker I've ever worked for.

If there's one thing I've learned doing commission work, it's that most people have really shitty ideas that they think are super brilliant and original and really good. But this guy takes the cake in being the worst. Not only that, but he wants a super strict and professional design pipeline, for the low price that I stupidly agreed to, because he couldn't afford more.

I am never again doing character design for less than $1000, and I'm sorry, but if you're paying $175 a character, you don't deserve a professional pipeline that takes up my whole week or more. While you shoot off vague ideas to me that I have to decypher, until you decide on something satisfying for YOUR shitty tastes, while demanding I get it all done in time despite being forced to do constant changes and redesigns because you're never clear enough on shit.

Ffffffffffuck man...

Sorry for the rant, I'm just really fired up. Post your stories please. Let's share our suffering together.

I'm sensing some great negativity in you, so allow me to share my story about an artist/commissioning. In greentext!

>>Browsing 4chan for a while
>>Pretty crazy all the time. Autists argue over nothing
>>Hear about this commissioning thing. Don't know what it is
>>Google more about it. It becomes interesting
>>Begin the search for an artist to commission. Look on 4chan
>>Most on them seem good, some bad, but a little out of my price range
>>Find an artist that catches my eye..
>>Found the artist on tumblr. Look at their work. Shoot them an email
>>They don't reply for months.
>>Finally reply explaining their situation
>>I'm not interested in commissioning them anymore. Eventually hear that they scam clients
>>Start the search again. God this is difficult
>>Find another artist. Looks kinda shady, but whatever. It's 4chan
>>Nervously send them an email. Say it's my first time yadda yadda. Other artist bailed on me.
>>They're kind about it and explain to me how the process for their commissions work
>>Eventually get everything in order and wait.
>>A few hiccups here and there, but they're always willing to make changes
>>I'm always happy with the quality of work I receive.
>>Start commissioning them pretty much twice a month
>>They start getting more popular online
>>I mostly commission them just to give them money. I like making them happy. Seeing their fanbase slowly grow

I'll eventually either commission them for something big or send them a paypal gift or something for christmas as a thank you for all they've done.

No need to be mad OP, I'm sure it'll all workout in the end. Good luck to you.

There's this one person who commissions me frequently, and I've got about a month and a half long queue. They're very impatient and constantly ask me when they'll be up or take a jab at me while streaming by saying something like "HOW MANY MORE PICTURES BEFORE MIIIIIIINE" and similar shit.

Thoughts on pastel medium? Anyone here with experience using it? Any favorite artists who used this material? I want to get into it by buying soft pastels but I've heard they crumble very easily and I'm kinda worried my big hands will tear them apart as soon as I pick them up. Any tips on how to use them, what's a good paper for it, etc?

one of my pals has one. they have 7 patrons, despite having 1,000 twitter followers and a lot more tumblr and etsy followers (though i don't know the exact number). so, i would keep expectations low
>>
>>3099221
1,000 followers anywhere is not a lot at all.
>>
>>3099221
you would be lucky to have more than 1 in every 100 followers as a patron. People rarely ever bother to give you money, and when they do it's usually a minimal amount. Following someone because you like their work is way easier than donating to them.

Hey /ic/

What are some replacements for the long-departed conceptart.org? Are there any decent art forums left with a sketchbook concept where you can dump studies and sketches along with finished work, etc?

The basics of using a colour checker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuZ0t5FR9f0

Also, learn the colour wheel. Red, yellow, blue, white, and maybe burnt umber are all the colours you need to mix 99.9% of what you see in nature. Having too many tubes of colour is a waste of money. If you want to be good then get good.

That depends on the brand doesn't it? One brand a straight ultramarine may give you best results, meanwhile another manufacturer's best may be pthalo blue (green tint). do some research on different brands and the different grades those brands produce.

Why does /ic/ never discuss the creative side of drawing? The skill to get good just feels all brute force at this point. How to apply my knowledge and decide what to draw on my own is what's really going to make this hard.

inspiration from pro and famous artist in my earlier years, plus finding nothing else i'd rather devote as much to

it's not always about a lack of ideas, but rather what to make with the tools available. this is with very little or no reference materials
