Thanks for a year of /beg/, /beg/gars! Can you find your drawings in the OP?
If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.
RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)
#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller
#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

My father is an artist who died a few years back. I want to compile his work into artbooks and dedicate time to getting his name out there besides the company he's associated with still releasing stuff before his death. His work is primarily pin-ups and I want to dedicate time to establishing art books to support his family better after his death.
What are websites that are good for this? The company that has rights to sell his stuff just works through eBay. I've been thinking Patreon but that's more for artists that need steady income and provide custom rewards.
What do you think would be good here, /ic/?
>>2943599
If you're looking for funding I would first just try ot get his name mroe known and his artwork seen. Once you have an audience it will be easier to get funding to make a book. Buy a domain name and make a website and try to get his work visible by posting online a lot, maybe updating some images through a blog or something. Later you can try kickstarter or try approaching a publisher directly.

Hey it's your dad.
I'm from the past. Please don't put my artwork on this shithole of a forum.
Thanks my boy.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

I want to draw huge monsters well like in Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy and the like, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good resources for brushing up on skills to do so? I already study animal anatomy and their skeletal structures, but I'd like to do more.
>>2945505
I am interested in this as well. One thing I found is to try to make sure that there is a good sense of scale in its environment. If it is a concept work, make sure the proportions are fitting.
This is a very interesting topic because as I sat here trying to think of tips to explain myself I found a lot of contradictions in many generalizations you hear. Like "make the head large and it will make the creature seem smaller" but nature contradicts this plenty of times, elephant heads are massive, but we still read them as large beasts. The opposite "make the head small compared to the body to make the creature seem massive" is flawed too. Most turtles have small heads compared to their bodies but never get truly massive.
The more I reflect on this, The more it feels like it might be an ingrained thing. including features of things we know, along with the scale of the features can give a beast a better sense of size.
anyway, I just am posting here to express my interest in this topic with you, op
>>2945505
>I already study animal anatomy and their skeletal structures
Study human anatomy too, especially paying attention to homologous structures.
A lot of monster design is morphing and fusing structures seen in nature but in new ways. In many cases there exist many tried and true ways that generally give good results, but might lean on the generic side. In situations like that it helps to have an overall theme or unique element and incorporate that into the design in multiple ways.
For believable designs, it helps to consider the creature's lifestyle. Is it sapient? Are there many of its kind or is it unique? Where does it live? What does it feed on? Does it have any predators, or maybe other species it competes with in its habitat? Is there a hypothetical evolutionary lead up to this creature (i.e. would it share a common ancestor with something we're more familiar with)? Or maybe this creature is man-made, through science or magic. These kinds of considerations lead you to a direction of what might be visually suitable and what wouldn't.
The relative size of scales, fur, eyes, claws, teeth, etc can give a decent impression of scale. Perspective is also useful for showing scale. If it's big put the camera low and use some 3pt perspective. Atmospheric perspective also goes a long way.
Best advice though is to find artists you admire that create monster designs you like. Copy them, study them, reinterpret them, or just take inspiration from them. You already listed Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy, so go study the concept art in there. What about each do you like? Slowly build up a visual library of what you think is cool, and learn to find things in nature that inspire you in a similar way. Explore what you think is cool, figure out why you think it's cool, and pay attention to it in usual places for inspiration (whether it's animals, plants, man-made objects, fashion, etc).
Feng Zhu had a video on designing dragons that might be useful.
>>2945505
>>2946328
And another tip:
When studying artists you like, see if you can identify a source animal inspiration for a body part, then go study that real world analogue. A dragon for example might have feet resembling a certain type of dinosaur, or a bird of prey, or an alligator, etc. Maybe the scales look like those found on a certain type of snake. Maybe the wings came from a bat, a bird or a certain insect. Identify what it vaguely looks like from the real world, then familiarize yourself with that.
Anyone know some top tier photo realistic skin painting tutorials?
No amateur shit pls
But anon rendering tutorials are completely fucking stupid unless you're going for a stylized look.
Just paint what you see in that photo god damn.
>>2943417
you're fucking stupid.
Fuck off, crab.

Hey you, yeah you. Did you just skip downloading photoshop or a tablet because you were told to not do digital until you can draw traditionally? well that's bullshit! It is a proven fact that draftsmanship on a physical medium transfers poorly to digital input devices, thus if you spend hours training your hand on a medium and then resolve to relearn all that muscle memory when you do switch to digital, then go ahead, but for the rest of you who want to learn how to draw as a hobby or a career and have a real life outside of drawing, just go straight into digital.
I'm actually inclined to agree with you here.
Digital and traditional are apples and oranges. You can learn the fundamentals on either platform, but being good in one is not going to make you good at the other. I'm pretty good with traditional media. When I try to use my tablet, it looks like I let a five year old with seizures take over. Similarly, I know many digital artists whose work in traditional media is just sloppy or simple compared to their usual stuff.
You're going to have to practice with both if you want to be good with both. If you're going to be a digital artist, focus on learning using digital media.

To those of you in relationships, are you seeing a fellow creative? How does it affect your life as an artist? And to the anons not in one or currently dating, do you seek or desire an artist as a significant other?
My ex broke up with me recently as a result of my job bleeding too much into our relationship and making organizing things and seeing each other too difficult. She's also just a student, and me being a full-time artist working at home meant a big divide in our stages of life.
I'm back at the dating game now because shit was getting lonely, but already had to cancel a second date with someone because more work came up. I've come to the conclusion that this is gonna be a mainstay of my life, and that maybe I should look for someone in a similar field to me because when I look at my colleagues they're either with fellow creatives, or someone they met years before going full-time.
How do you d/ic/ks feel about all dat shit?
tl;dr
Nobody cares, you sad cunt, this is not your blog.

Hello guys, I've never posted nor visited this board before but I have a piece of artwork I can't identify and I was recommended to come here. This drawing was found in a book that I discovered in my basement. The drawing is dated 1912 and ai would like to find out if its worth anything/famous
That's very well done, doubt it's worth much though. I would not sell it if I were you
Are you sure it's a drawing and not a hand-coloured photograph?
>>2946487
not a drawing, not worth much, even if it were famous, it's just a colored print
