>Adolph Menzel’s drawing supplies accompanied him everywhere, whether on a short walk or a long journey. He was always prepared to draw. One of his overcoats had eight pockets, each filled with sketchbooks of different sizes. On the lower left side of his coat was an especially large pocket which held a leather case with a big sketchbook, some pencils, a couple of shading stumps, and a gum eraser.
>His personal motto was “Nulla dies sine linea” (”Not a day without a line”). He drew ambidextrously, alternating between the left and the right, sometimes on the same drawing. If he was ever caught without drawing paper, he sketched on whatever was available, even a formal invitation to a court ball. Whenever he was spotted at a social event, the whispered word went abroad that “Menzel is lurking about.”
Why aren't you like him, Anon? Maybe you could make it this way.
Someone post that drawing of a hipster with his macbook and drawing tablet at a starcucks, there was a slogan that said you will one day see this.
>“Nulla dies sine linea”
This will be my personal motto from now on.

but my supplies are always with me because I never leave the house.
I take inspiration from sycra but I feel like i'm able to execute it better.
Ayyy lmao
>>3069458
Its no better, if you like the style than great. But if you to tell me those are Sycra's i wouldnt give it a second thought.
Hey guys, I'm an inspiring manga artist and I just started drawing a couple of days ago. I'm basically level 0. Anyway, if I draw 4 hours a day and study fundamentals, how long do you guys think it would take before I can reach senpai's level? 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?
Thanks
>>3068951
I've been following the dude since I was in like the 7th grade. He was pretty good for his age at the time and was very hard working. I'd say just as long as him...10 years.
>>3068958
correction
10 years* for the whole honing sequential skills/story telling. 2 to 5 years for technical drawing skill.
2-4 years if you practice hard
What are some good books that talk about anime facial expression in a deeper way ? Real people expressions are the base of course. But there is more than that for example the shape of the eyes according to the personality of each character and the way of drawing the nose.
The only book that I know about this is:
How to Draw Anime & Game Characters Vol. 1 Basics for Beginners and Beyond
Even books that takes this theme in a superficial way would be OK just to check the differences between authors.
>>3066487
>look at manga
>study the facial expressions drawn in manga
>???
studying expressions from anime is the worst possible thing you can do
>>3066494
Please, tell more about why is bad to use anime to study facial expressions. Because I've been studying facial expressions from anime...
That might explain some things
I also found this

anime comes in a million different styles. some of them are extremely exaggerated with expressions, and others like the image in OP literally only move their mouths and eyebrows a tiny bit. If you have a specific style you want to emulate, then study off that manga/anime/whatever. otherwise continue with real people.
Seems like wacom doesn't learn the lesson and keeps releasing stupidly expensive and badly optimized devices when the ipad pro the use for drawing is just a fucking plus. It doesn't have windows 10 but sure artists doesn't give a fuck if they get the same results in an app. Cintiqs are laggy, they need a high end computer and companions are just a mess.
why does most of people hate companions? few examples? maybe?
there are no tablets better than a cintinq right now. just cheaper.
>>3064924
If it does what you need it to, and it's cheaper, then that makes it better.
What the title says, dudes.

going to have to second this, draw more real people and studies until you get a better grasp on your fundies before you do porn or whatever it is you want to do otherwise you'll run into lots of problems in the future. there's simply too much wrong at this time to give you any useful critique besides "start over"
>>3063352
Just post in /beg/ ffs
Or the NSFW thread

>"it's that I didn't stop using chicken scratch"
>ded
why haven't you stopped using chicken scratch?
>>3068192
because i never started using it
Half the digital art I see praised on this site is nothing but chickenscratch... but then I tend to overwork my stuff with hatching that doesn't need to be there. I always figured I'd get more refined with it after awhile

I must confess that the way Loomis draws women is my goal. One day I hope to be able to gorgeous women like he did. Also I think the aestethic and fashion of the women he draws (which is from the 30's/40's right? Basically retro?) is the best and women used to look a lot more elegant than they do nowadays
r8 my taste I guess
Yes they were kissing awkwardly like this in the reference photo.
>that beauty spot
Very nice work.
don't make your own thread.
How are you so good?

Talent.
Hey guys, it takes time to build build upon your skills in your art work. And we should expect many failures along the way. Post your old failed artwork or sketches here
>>3070071
Here's another shitty sketch I started on but failed, either Because I gave up on it or I thought it was shitty
>>3070071
And another. This was a drawing that I grown to hate and failed on it
>>3070071
You can't really expect anyone to take you seriously, drawing on lined paper, can you?
Get some blank paper, and then post some work.
quick scrawl and taking your time tags are fine
just tag it and use the previous poster's image no matter what it is; you can be a dick and tag over people but try to make it look like it does when you tag over someone on an actual wall

Is this a good tutorial to show the importance of perspective in drawing?
I have a friend that I want to teach drawing to, but he's totally neglecting perspective.
I don't actually understand what I can do about the planes that aren't parralell with the horizon. do they follow a different horizon?
>>3069986
Can you give me a visual example?
I can probably help you if you do.
I need this because my friend will likely strike the same issue.
Tell your "Denver's best pizza" stories to us, /ic/.

All I know is that they've given him really shit pizza.
>>3069929
essentially this guy thought he could make the greatest pizza ever and normies praised him because he marketed it as such but the pizza was terrible, greasy, and not even cooked all the way through.
>>3069925
How much better is drawing from life than from images like pic related? Lots of people here stress the importance of drawing from life, but vetyr got gud by repeatedly drawing from pictures of people (see >>3064109). I mostly draw from pictures since I don't know any figure drawing classes close to where I live. How much am I missing here if I don't draw live models? Will I git gud a lot faster if I do?
>>3066444
It's the difference between an self portrait from the renaissance and a selfie from a phone.
>>3066455
Which is which in this analogy? Phone selfies are clearly far closer to real life than renaissance portraits.
I personally don't think it matters too much. As long as you're practicing the right things. If you're drawing from real life you don't have any way to trace/cheat and you have to translate the world around you to 2D, so it forces you to think a little more about things. You can still learn just as much from a photograph though. People get way too caught up in the details of exactly how, when, where, what they should draw. I say whatever you enjoy doing more is what you should do.
I can't find any
