Can anyone recommend set of books for studying drapery, clothing and fashion? I am going to a point where I do not know how to proceed clothing my figures and most of the books I have gives me unanswered questions about folds, mainly the forms of zigzag folds, where folds tend to form, how to effectively render folds without losing the primary form, bulky clothing, and how can anatomy and drapery come together. Thanks

You could always just make up your own set ups. Use different fabrics of different thicknesses, drape stuff, fold them yourself, point some lamps at it to get some nice shadows and draw and practice.
>>
>>3074214

Although that helped, I still run to the problem of doing drapery to complement the human figure. Setting up a fold on the ground can help me identify simple shapes, but it ends up a bit stiff and almost gestureless, which isnt ideal when draping the figure.

Most of the questions I do have right now probably relates more on the draped figure than the drapery itself. Its probably something I still have to answer myself...

I was listening to One Fantastic Week podcast the other day and there was something that resonated with me. Pete Mohrbacher said that one of the reasons he invested into his own IP (angelarium) is because he is generally a bad employee and him managing his own stuff (which is ironically harder) makes him a lot more successful.

Anyway, I was thinking about being a bad employee myself and I too would like to create my own IP or something that belongs to me. I am a beginner but it's not stupid to think about my goals now, right? So how do I approach drawing in a way that I can get patreon bucks or just live off selling my prints? I really, really don't want to work for anyone (I mean I can when starting out but that's it). Are there any other methods of self sustain?

Hard mode: no porn or pandering to really unique niches.

hi
i'm an artist who rarely practices, rarely does any reseach, mostly draws shitty drawings for memes, and have little (almost slim to none) confidence in their drawings.

this is in my opinion my best piece of art i did so far, it's certainly not a great piece but it's at least not bad.
any thoughts /ic/?

So if I want to start doodling, nothing serious but just draw random stuff, hopefully slowly improving over time. Is a tablet worth investing in? pic related.

Anyone here use tablet? Is it fun to use?

>>
>>3073216
if you doodle/use it often, then it's worth it, if you use it a dozen times and discard it to collect dust, no
>>
Yeah wacom intous Pro/Comic/Art is okay for doodling.

You can improve a little bit faster over time, buy using guidelines reading art books/drawing manuals. Or you can just watch youtube artists they teach everything except money making aspect of art.

Buy more computer rams, so you won't palpitate when your preferred drawing/painting software lags.

Oh good point, I have a shitty old laptop. How much of an issue is lag with drawing tablet?
Does it lag less if I just draw with black and white? Does it lag more if I draw in colour?
Pic related. Will lag be an issue?

Does different tablet have different lag?

I have been drawing using reference for 100 hours atm, how bad is it that i am neglecting drawing from imagination in the long run if my goal is to be able to draw portraits?

Also, reference folder thread? Started saving last month

>>
Mine is 14GB

It's not even all my references because I have several huge folders in other locations. But I'm the opposite of you, I mainly draw from imagination and don't use em. I really need to use ref more often

>goal is to be able to draw portraits
Not at all. If you're gonna draw portraits you're gonna have "reference" at all times. It's good that you're building on that skill. Try asking others to pose for you (or draw yourself in front of a mirror), people love being drawn.
>>
>>3070999
you should draw from imagination right after your study to test what you learned from it.
>>
>>3071012
>Mine is 14GB
Holy, could you recommend me a few sites where i could find good references? I am actually struggling a little bit finding HD photos of people, i am using dA photography section for it atm

>Try asking others to pose for you
I can make """decent""" portraits but i feel like i will mess up so hard i will end up losing the few friendships i have, i think i will go with drawing myself until i "git gud" enough to ask other people

You ever look at some of the big name artists on Deviantart and get the feeling that they're either cripplingly dependent on references or even outright trace?

Prywinko is one of the legions of "artists" who are nothing but Sakimichan clones. Due to the fact that Sakimichan's style gains easy popularity, these clones are getting a lot of views and popularity now too. But I wouldn't consider her one of the big name artists on Deviantart. and yeah, she probably has no real independent skill.
>>
>>3070952
here's another one I found not long ago. Started her account 7 months ago and already has 71,000 views. you can even tell which piece she copied off of

Just start following that plan and on the way you will notice it's flaws and change them along the way. Also if you can work through scott robertsons dvds you kinda don't need his book much and also add observational drawing to that list, trust me it helps a lot
>>
>>3073615
What's wrong with it? I am past observational drawing, it's the only thing I have been doing for some time now. I know that I should start from perspective in general, then the whole construction in 3D thing (which is what I need, I don't know anything about that really). Then values, then colors and then I have basic knowledge and skill to draw anything I like I guess... right?
>>
>>3073689
I didn't say that there is something wrong with, it's just that when you are self teaching and plan everything out, often you find its flaws, it's natural for that to happen. On the surface it looks like a good plan so stick to and if necessary correct it along the way

How to best study gesture? My drawings just feel altogether stiff
22 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Don't just draw the gesture. Be the gesture.
>>
>>3071169
Practice forms and then start using those frames (with like the lines on the face and stuff) when drawing, it helps with the structure

They help because you can do the expression and form first and better, and not have to worry as much later
>>
>>3071169
you have to do more than draw, you have to FEEL the form

Looks nice and has a bunch of personality. I guess this is unfinished? I'd say bump up the core shadows and look at some stylization ideas for the hair (Leyendecker maybe?). GJ etc...

Reposting from /g/

I don't know if this is the best place to ask but I'm really running out of ideas and I'm sure this isn't a Wacom specific problem.
I also know this isn't tech support but I don't know where else to ask (already sent Wacom Support a mail)

I've been using a drawing tablet for years now without any issues up until now. Today my drivers suddenly died.
I've been using the Windows - Driver 5.3.5-3 for previous generation products for years.
When I had my problem today I unistalled my current drivers and downloaded the very same one obviously but for some reason I can't install anything.
It gets stuck at the same spot in pic related everytime. I've tried downloading old versions of the installer and even the one in the CD and all of them stop at the same spot.
No error message no nothing and I really don't know what else to try.

Have you installed anything recently? Something must've messed your fucking drivers.

Restore your computer before that happened.
>>
>>3074062
Already checked but I didn't have restore points. I realized I fucked up.
As a real last resort, I may need to format my computer but it isn't worth it for this I suppose.
>>
The most likely scenario is that either you have a program or some other driver that is preventing the installation. As the other poster said try to do a restore point, if you don't have any uninstall anything recently that you have installed. Also try to purge everything by Wacom, boot into safemode, uninstall all the drivers, and remove any registries by wacom if any.
