Lol, OP is a faggot confirmed. There were several drawings better than that one and you should've at least included a couple of the other decent ones in the thumbnail. I swear man, this fucking plebs with their trash tier tumblr taste is starting to get annoying.

learn to draw first, faggot.
the dude on the right's feet are not in perspective correctly so it looks like he is floating.
also, your ability to draw hands is made apparent by how eager you are to hide them as well as how bad they are on the girl(?) on the right.
another thing, you seem to have a style that makes it difficult tell if the character is a dude or a girl (contrary to what tumblr might tell you this is the most retarded thing you can do in character design), and it doesn't seem on purpose. a good design and style should inform anyone who looks at it to instantly "feel" the personality of the characters. learn more about shape language and really make it obvious what those characters are supposed to be

So I'm trying to transition from paper to tablet and my god is it ridiculous. My wife was suckered into getting a bamboo tablet with a macbook years ago before realizing how overpriced and under-powered macs are and never used the tablet. I've tried multiple times to set it up but can't find the model on Wacom's site to get updated drivers, finding them elsewhere I couldn't get pen sensitivity to work and one of the buttons defaults to the "bamboo dock" which isn't installed and links to a page on the wacom site which has been removed. Finding it on a third party site and trying it I found out it's garbage bloatware. Tried multiple solutions for sensitivity to work without success and found out this has been a long existing problem for all of wacom's tablets and the solutions which sometimes works for people usually only last until they restart their computers and require over an hour of uninstalling and reinstalling every driver because wacom doesn't have competent software developers and just reuse large chunks of old code from drivers which contains existing bugs and incompatibility. Adobe gets spammed with complaints and points fingers at wacom while wacom points fingers at adobe and just say to reinstall drivers. Meanwhile people who sell old tablets are as ridiculous as mac fanboys who think their technology doesn't depreciate with age and expect original retail prices for outdated hardware and poor software support from years ago which was underpowered then because of lack of competition in the drawing tablet industry.

This is frustrating and stupid. I'm a scientist by trade so I don't prescribe to brand loyalty when it comes to technology, I get hardware based on it's specs compared to it's price yet it seams that's the exact opposite of what's possible with tablets. How do you guys feel about this?

so true! as for your problem desu i've never had an issue with either wacom or off brand graphics tablets. i use PC tho...
>>
>>3065572
I use a pc as well, a 4 year old HP craptop for portability with built in OS incompatibility. Might be part of the problem but correct drivers should fix it, if only they were debugged before release.

I'm having an issue with Paint Tool Sai.

If I'm pressing down on the tablet but not moving the pen, it automatically switches to the color picker.
Is there anyway to turn this off so it doesn't switch to anything.

Depends on what kind of tablet you have.

I use a super old Bamboo Waocm Fun and Touch .There's a white button on the side of the pen that when I press goes to the colour picker.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the tablet? Or updating drivers?
>>
is the color picker right click? if so there is an anoying preset in windows that right clicks when youre holding down. dumb, i know

Do you like listening to music while you draw? What music should you listen to? Discuss.

>>
some people say its bad to listen to music because its a distraction, which i kind of agree .
however i also think that if you hear music that you have heard over and over again it becomes like a white noise and its not a distraction.(was discussing this with another anon in a previous thread about music while drawing)
this happens to me i monitored the amount of stuff i was able to do in silence and then with certain music and videos that i dont have to pay attention to because i have heard it a lot examples are the shinobi 3 ost ,sonic ost's and some other games that i use to play all the time so i associate that kind of music to focus and concentration numerous frank zappa albums, steve vai, bach stuff (fugues 915,565,brandenberg 5.1 allegro and others but those are the main ones) the silent hill 4 album, Mozart's don giovanni or the magic flute and some of his fugues ,avgn , trailer park boys, its always sunny in philadelphia (not music but i listen to it) and some other things that dont come to mind at this time.
if i listen to that stuff my production levels are about the same as silence which is sometimes do as well because i will forget to turn on the music or whatever because i just got wrapped up in whatever i was drawing when i was outside smoking.
so in a way i think silence is actually better. but i often dont just wanna sit there in silence. and with those specific things i usually do about the same amount.

however with music i have never heard or videos i have never seen i do less so i tend to limit what i listen to while drawing so i never do that. so find what music you really know and listen to over and over because they can be a distraction.

anyone here ever downsourced work? either officially (with the client knowing that you're doing it) or secretly (with you pretending you did it and trusting the artist you hired to play along) ?

I'm getting way too much work recently and started considering doing this. Most of the gigs I get are pretty straight forward, not intricate illustrations rich in detail. Clients pay me well not because I do great art but because they've worked with me in the past and I deliver what they need and on time. Thinking back however, I'd have been able to do this kind of stuff easily, emulating another artists style, years ago when I was starting out. And I would have been more than willing to do the work for the amount that I am now considering paying an artist.

Tldr:
> good guy client wants to hire me (again) for simple job that is time consuming
> full of work already, but don't want to miss out (tight deadline)
> consider taking on the job and hiring a trusted rookie artist to do it, pay him 66%
> ???
> profit

anyone ever done this? It's about 2 days of work for 1k€.

This practice is completely normal for a ""studio""

Dunno if you really care about this client, but i'll assume they are a good one so;

Dont let it backfire if client gets something noticeably shit quality vs. what they sold you shoulder the blame. Client might not give you the luxury to make up with revise, and just drop you, talk shit about you to colleagues, and you loose future recommends.

Is it worth it? You could be honest and say you will collaborate with a newer artist on the piece and ask for a safer deadline, see how it works out. Or just say no, no doesn't always mean your relationship is over.
>>
>>3065079
I've never done it, but I would be honest and say that you have hired someone under you to help out. It's not like you have to say what he is specifically doing either, because as long as the outcome is the same, no one will care.

Like >>3065244 said, studios do this often. Animation studios need people who can draw exactly on model, as you'll have multiple animators animating different scenes. I see this a lot with graphic designers as well. So there is no reason you can't hire someone too. You just need to make sure the quality is up to your standards.
>>
if 1000 euros are the 66% for 2 days, many people will be willing to collaborate (even me)

Should I work on every piece till it's fully finished or can I work on basics and leave it be?

Pic related is my still life study, it's not done but I got colors right and I am thinking if I should just leave it be or make it photorealistic or whatever.

So what's the right approach?

>>
>>3065183
Do both long studies and quick ones. You will learn different things from each. They are both important. What proportion you do of one or the other is up to you and your goals (ie and animator is heavier on the shorter studies and a classical fine artist is heavier on the long studies)

Shut the fuck up kid. You know what the real problem is? Everyone that's actually successful in this field has simply had a completely atypical experience. /ic/'s view of how to learn and what the industry is like may be skewed but when there's so much room for failure there's going to be negativity. So naturally you're going to get a lot of people who are jaded and shitty. Get the fuck over it or go somewhere else.

I looked around at the stuff in stores near me and online at amazon and equated the cost of things per square foot of painting surface in search of the cheapest practice around. I recently started painting traditionally (started purely digital) and am really feeling the pain of bad paintings on my wallet. Each failure currently costs me about $2-4.

The materials below dont account for the cost of primer. The prices also very by size, but generally the medium sized surfaces are most afordable. (medium is 12x16 to 18x24 in inches)

The List of Materials and their prices per square foot. (it doesn't matter if you dont know what a foot is the ratio of cost to surface area remains the same. The lower the number the better.)

Hard board (fine plywood like thick cardboard with a hard coating on one side.
0.46875 on average, 0.3125 at best

Water Color Paper
0.4655

Fredix Canvas Pads (as per Anon's reccomendation)
1.0313 for most of the big pads and 0.9157 amazon's choice

Unstreched Canvas by the roll and thinly primed
1.0263

Arteza canvas Panels
1.5104

Didnt want to type up the scratch page.
I took the cost and divided it by the area.

>>
I buy pre-cut mdf panels. 5x7 inch is like 5p.
Gesso them with 2 coats of acrylic primer. Ready within 24 hours to use.
If your pic is a failure, scrap down down any lumpy bits & use it again when dry.

If you're painting in acrylic, then it's easy to just paint over anything you don't like.
>>
BTW, I also paint in watercolour. Use Bockingford which is cheap. The thick Bockingford for when you're flush and/or your work is getting worth the outlay.
Arches wc paper has gone right off. Saunders Waterford heavyweight is the bees knees.

It seems that Asians from all the Asian countries, whether it be China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand or Indonesia tend to be able to emulate the anime/manga styles pretty well

When they draw it, it feels more...natural

But when white people from places like America, England or France attempt to draw manga, it feels force and the result is usually shit

Meanwhile, those in South American surprisingly enough can draw manga well, as well as Eastern Europeans

why is that?
