Does using a cheaper cintiq alternative actually produce crappier results? As opposed to any type of tablet from wacom, does it produce inferior lineart/colors/etc ?

you can still cut your steak with a butter knife yes.
>>
>>3074290
You can definitely produce the same results, it just feels a lot more annoying to use due to all the software and hardware issues. And sometimes when you get frustrated with the tool not doing what you want you tend to not push it as far compared to when your tool works just as you want it.
>>
>>3074290

Yes. There is a distinct decline in line quality when I use the UGEE at work compared to my cintiq at home.

left one is a female from imagination
it barely looks human, but i thought it was the shit

now 11 months later is my latest attempt at female render (with a few references for specific parts like nose)

crit me i guess

Looks like a lot of clutter in this render, hard to see the actual progress.
Do you have other recent stuff like sketches?

Well at least you gained some experience with lighting.
IMO the left one doesn't look bad at all except for the ayylmao neck.
>>
>>3073788
left is tastelessly stylized but pretty okay by beginner standards
right is simply awful and the necks are still terrible

At this point you would make any sort of progress if you just leave drawing.

Is studying loomis worth it if I want to get better at anime? I've been drawing in the anime style for quite a while now, and notice that I keep making mistakes with parts of the face being uneven, and the eyes being uneven. Especially a frontal view of the face. Should studying loomis help? Or should I keep drawing anime. I've heard you get better at what you draw, so I'm thinking of just continuing drawing in the anime style and eventually hoping it will work out, but from time to time I keep thinking about Loomis. The reason I try to avoid Loomis is because I see people that are really great at drawing in the loomis style (realism) but Suck at anime drawings, hence the reason I second guess myself before copying loomis drawing because I may just be wasting time if I were to study loomis when I could have devoted that time into drawing anime and getting better at it.

>>
>>3073016
The reason you should study loomis is not because of anime, but because of getting better at drawing. Study his plates and methods and later apply them to life drawings. Only after that you can translate that knowledge to anime. For example perspective of the head can ve applied to stylized worked and also line of symmetry and etc. So yes it's worth it
>>
>>3073016
It will certainly help you with the placement of facial features but it will not do anything for your ability to copy the anime style. That you just have to keep practicing.
>>
>>3073016
Studying Loomis is always worth it, but just learning his particular face construction will not directly address the evenness issues you are having.

Artists who start out drawing cartoons often breeze through Loomis, learn the head construction by rote, then try to fit that construction to anime or cartoons. That is the wrong approach. Loomis himself would not use the same face construction to draw anime or cartoons. He demonstrates this much in the beginning of the book with the cartoon faces exercise.

Construction is about how to approach complex subjects, breaking them down into a collection of simple shapes that are individually easier to manage. It's your ability to draw those simple shapes (boxes, sphere, tubes, ellipses) in perspective and dividing them properly that will improve the evenness of the faces you draw. The rules are few, it's more about the amount of practice you put into them.

Is there a REAL place to discuss art / making your own comic?

not really, all the various online communities have major weaknesses. /ic/'s strength is that there are a lot of people willing to give advice, it's weakness is that most of them don't know what they're talking about. also there's so many losers these days, you know the draw thread never used to drop off the front page, i think the problem was letting the animu fags in, at the time i was like 'let the babies have their bottle' but the 'realists' were right i guess.
>>
People act like they know places. Yet most of them are either dead, grandmas only, or hobbyist traditional painting of realist things.

There's nothing that's worth registering for that has active working artists in a variety of industries that give critique/advice.
All the artists that were a part of the digital art forum age are long gone professionals who've either moved to twitter, youtube, or instagram.

How much hours per day need for drawing %%The more - is better, of course%% and what tools you use to track spended time?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I use a pomodoro timer, set 30 minutes instead of 25. A few hours every day.

The hours don't matter if you're not doing something to improve. I could draw lines and boxes for half an hour and learn nothing from it. In fact a lot of the time I tracked was spent on mindless doodles, because I was avoiding studies. This is just comething you should keep in mind. Don't forget to have fun, but don't waste too much time on things that'll get you nowhere.

What do you guys think about this man.

Yeah, determination is part genetics and thats sucks.
>>
>>3074103

I'm going to tell you this with absolute honesty, because I love you, anon:

-You can practice 10 minutes with your head and get further than mindlessly doing 10 hours of "studies". Mindlessness is the enemy of learning.

-You need to do things slowly if you want to have any hope in doing them correctly with speed.

-Don't ask yourself what you need. Ask your WORK what does IT need.

-Get slightly out of your confort zone. Make mistakes — Nobody needs to see your mistakes — and make sure not to commit those mistakes again.

-Artists don't daydream about making great art. They daydream about having made great art.

-The key is not time or skill, it's consistency and persistency. Your first goal must be to draw every day and not stop.

-Draw a lot, but draw consciously. Improve with every new piece you create.

- Clear your mind of thoughts. Do not think at all on how shit is done. Is better to watch a master while he's drawing and imitating the process yourself than trying to remember everything about it from a book.

You're gonna make it.
