Because Meds are the master race obviously. There were two migration waves that shaped Mediterranean Euro genetics the most: an early one from Anatolia during the Neolithic that brought agriculture to the continent and a later one during the Copper Age that brought metallurgy. The latter one is more obscure and less studied, but West Asian admixture in the Balkans and Italy (haplo J2) has a strong correlation with the diffusion of metallurgy. The Indo-Europeans were savages in comparison when they came. Their only contributions were domesticated horses, chariots and their language and religion. Europe already had advanced civilizations such as the Minoans, Nuragics and Etruscans before the Indo-European migrations. The Latins were literally tribalistic niggers living in mudhuts before they got civilized by the non-Indo-European Etruscans.

Civilization was developed at different points in the world, not just the ME. Outside of early influence, Europe owes almost nothing to the Middle East since Euros got almost everything from Greco-Roman civilization.

The last outbreak of smallpox in Europe was in Yugoslavia in 1972.
The deadly disease was viewed as eradicated in the first and second worlds, and the W.H.O. had been fighting it in the third world.
Patient zero, an Albanian Muslim from Kosovo by the name of Ibrahim Hoti, was infected in Saudi Arabia as he was making the Hajj, he recovered because he was vaccinated.
People who were in contact with him were infected, that's true.
However none of his 11 children were infected (let's not talk about the demographics of Kosovo Albanians, that's another topic, and i'm tired of it), which lead some epidemiologists to believe it was a case of biological warfare, but that's in the realm of conspiracy theory, and there doesn't seem to be a clear culprit (neither USA nor USSR).

He infected Latif Mumdžić, who sought medical help, but the local doctors couldn't diagnose him and sent him to Belgrade (but to Novi Pazar and Cacak before that).
At first the doctors misdiagnosed him with an allergic reaction to penicillin, soon other symptoms appeared.
35 people at the hospital were infected, 9 of whom were doctors (8 of whom died).
Simultaneously ~140 cases of smallpox were reported in Kosovo.
Strict quarantines were established and mass vaccinations ensued. People were getting vaccinated in hospitals, in schools, in factories, in the streets and in the fields (my mom told me specifically that she was vaccinated at school).

The W.H.O praised the Yugoslav regime for quick and decisive (read, brutal and panicked) action, which quickly contained the disease.

There is a great movie from 1982 based on this event (of course, it's not a documentary, it's an epidemic movie and it takes creative liberties). The writer/director obviously knew a lot about the danger of evolving diseases, and he masterfully critiqued communism (and the Yugoslav government), not only through the actions of the government in the movie, but comparing it to the very disease.

Look at a map. Venice gives you easy access to the Po Valley and the major passes through Alps, therefore the rest of Europe, whereas Sicilian ports just give you access to Sicily

Define "near" Venice. The city itself was basically the chosen capital of a pre-existing coalition of the neighbouring cities who chose to keep aloof of the barbarian shitflinging contests, so it's not like anywhere else on the coastline was available unless you move as far as Trieste northward or Rimini southward. Rimini is nowhere near as well connected to northern Italy and the alpine passes, Trieste is pretty much not even in Italy at all geographically. The more you move to the south, the least connected you are to continental Europe, and there's no real moving to the north since the Venetian Lagoon and the Gulf of Trieste are the two best harbours in the Adriatic, and the only one more northern (Grado) was conquered by Venice pretty early on.

Most of that is true. Beyond some genetic heritage thanks to occupying same area, none of those modern people share any cultural continuity with those ancient onces, some have minimal linguistic connections, but overall the mentionned modern and ancient peoples do not represent one people.

Most of these connections either derive from hardly factual medieval legends (which were used to strengthen the claim of the ruling DYNASTY and nobles, not the common pleb) or 19. century nationalist awakenings root-searching. And they thought the best way to form a common national identity is to identify ancient, venerable ancestors one can be proud to call forefathers.

Honestly beyond remnants of romanticism and far right wanking, you won't find any continous ethnic consciousness.

the real blue pill is to assume that all these groups are just generalized concepts and that nothing exists in a vacuum independently of each other.
