So, when are we going to get cheapy chinky Thunderbolt 3 eGPU docks?
You can already get cheap mPCIe/expresscard stuff from Banggood:

That work like shit and are full of bugs. With the combination of software/bios/hardware compatibility plus the low quality docks full of electrical signaling issues they're a nightmare to troubleshoot and get working properly, i'd rather wait for a reputable brand to come up with proper tb3 docks.

Mine has been working fine for months.
How much screen on time do you /g/entlemen usually get?
>>56947202
Usually ~10 hours by the time I hit 20% and I just recharge by then.
Depends on usage though, I can get a little more by turning brightness down.
>>56947202
6600mAH battery
I get around 6 to 24 hours depending on if it's a game running during that entire time or not.
Moto x play.
Hey /g/ its been a while but anyway I'm looking for a laptop under $800 AUD that I can use for work and a little bit of gaming (just some casual cs go). Please give me some recs I'll look at all of them.
I've been happy with this HP Pavillion x360 2 in 1 I got for 400$ USD on a deal (normally 550$) to use in college. It looks nice and clean, has the right feel. It also has an SSD which means it boots in literally a few seconds. Only thing is, it's only a 120GB SSD. That is seriously not enough and I would have bought the 250 GB SSD version if it has the 150$ off deal. I'm using an external hard drive for all my files and I can run games off of that just not very easily. I like the Dell and Lenovo competitors but they again didn't have the deal and also weren't as nice ergonomically. The 2 in 1 concept is nice just for the touch screen, but I rarely use it in table mode unless I am walking and using it at the same time.

Literally the cheapest piece of shit with a gt 920m or better. Why the fuck should we do your work for you?
At least ask the right board.

just move the computer under the owners hand while hes asleep
or if its really important, cut off a thumb.
Has anyone here tried those assembly operating systems like kolibri or menuetos?
How good, or bad, was it? Did everything work or do you need specific hardware for it to work right?
>>56947141
Just try them yourself, most of em are only a few megabytes.
menuetos was extremely impressive last time I booted it. Honestly quite functional.
>>56947153
Was the web browser functional enough to shitpost on /g/?
I have Kolibri on one of the flash drives I keep in my computer.
Anyone having trouble having your PC read your phone since the latest windows 10 update?
I had the same problem last update. I think it was cos I had the N pack which required an extra file to be downloaded separately.
Anyone know which one it is? I downloaded a media feature pack which has a release date of August but my phone still doesn't pop up on my pc
>>56947091
You want the Media Feature Pack.
Granted, you can get by with 99% of the time without it by using Chrome.
>>56947101
yeah I have the media feature pack KB3113719 installed.
Release date froom August
Is there a later version for the September update?
It's so retarded trying to find files on the website
>>56947101
Also I just need it to transfer files from phone to pc.
right now I can only do it if I take out my sd card and plug it into the PC instead of just plugging my phone it.
Says I have all the drivers and shit too. had the same problem last update until someone suggested to DL a very specific file. thought it was the Media Feature Pack but doesn't seem to have resolved the issue
So, rolling release fags. How's the disastrous 4.8 release going for you?
It's all good, I'm stuck on 3.18 anyway.
>>56947020
you do know it doesn't update automatically, don't you?
I'm not having any problems
For me my expensive item has prob got to be my nexus 6p. i dont buy much. best 400 bucks ever spent

What's the best linux distro that's small enough that I can burn onto a cd? Got an old laptop that doesn't support boot from usb
>pic not related
bump. all i have so far is slitaz
>>56946969
Look up Puppy Linux
Burn a GRUB disk, put your distro on a bootable USB stick, boot to CD and use GRUB to select the USB stick via the command line. Mission accomplished.
Alternatively, you can try the network install.
Finally, if this is all too complicated, I recommend the bare-bones version of Debian. You can add additional repos later.
I’m torn between getting a 4 bay external enclosure + raspi which is $150 + $35 or building a nas which would run around $230. All of this is not including drives.
I want to be able to run 24/7 irc and rtorrent and able to run openvpn whenever I connect to internet outside of the house to tunnel through my connection. I want to also host my plex media directory on this device. Hosting the plex server on the device is only a plus seeing as I am totally alright with using my desktop as the hosting server and just using the device as storage for the directory. I will be the only one accessing this device and it is not meant to serve anyone but me so usb 2.0/network connection will not bother me me.
(+$25 for theODROID-C2, i don't think i need the power for these things, right?)

Sorry i cannot help you that much
>>56946976
...wut..
..no..
>>56946896
You stupid fuck.
Where the hell are you buying your ODROIDs where they cost 25 dollars more than a Raspberry Pi?
They're a solid 42 dollars without shipping from ameriDroid, and Hardkernel ships them themselves internationally for like five bucks for about the same base price.
I want to use one PC for both Oculus Rift gaming in a Gamecube/N64 emulator, and also MAME games in 15kHz 240p on a nice CRT. For the Oculus Rift, I'd need something like a GTX 970, but for true 15 kHz output, I'd need a card meeting requirements here: http://wavebeam.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-groovycube-diy-console-that-plays.html . Is it possible to use 2 completely unrelated graphics cards at the same time (one for fullscreen MAME, the other for everything else)?
Yes of course it's possible.
>>56946791
to clarify, the old card requires special drivers to be installed to work with 15 kHz. When installing drivers for graphics cards, is there any reason the custom drivers wouldn't play nice with the GPX970 drivers?
>>56946807
how do you tell programs which card to use? Is that something you'd do in system settings, or each program's settings?
I don't think I'm ever going to get used to talking to computers. It's just fucking weird. It's weird alone at home and it's 10X weirder when you're out in public. I don't don't like it (I know, go ahead and post the Simpson's "old man yells at cloud" on me).
What about you, /g/?
gets worse when you consider the data mining aspect of this
>>56946833
true dat.
and let's not forget about voice identification and fingerprinting.
>>56946779
I don't either.
Mostly because talking to your computer/phone looks retarded as fuck and isn't 100% accurate.
Also yeah this is a concern too >>56946833
