is /g/ cancer?
You're autistic and can't adapt properly to different situations

If you could get any $600+ flagship for 50% off, what one would you get?
Just to reiterate, I can get a Pixel XL ($769) cheaper than the Axon 7 and OnePlus 3 so I don't want those.
OnePlus 3.
>>56945008
You would pay regular $400 pricing when you could get a V20 for $290? Alright then
iphone 7
sell it
buy a xeon

There was a time around 2008 or so when opera and windows xp was browsing heaven. Now I'm on lubuntu and firefox and it's better yet.
hey /g/uys I just bought a 240 GB SSD for my laptop in April/May 2016, I think it's already starting to go because I can hear the spindle jumping off it's bearings every few days inside my laptop. It makes a ching k ching sound pretty light though.
What should I replace it with?
Pic related it's a Sandisk 240 gb ssd.
there's only one SSD in my computer and I almost swear I hear this tick tick going off in there. Since there's no mechanical parts in an SSD what am hearing?
I mean there's only one hdd in my laptop and it is ssd so what am i hearing? since an SSD wouldn't have any moving parts? I am hearing a knocking sound!
It stopped in the last few days but i could have swore i heard that!
Maybe the NSA installed a secret HDD in there and didn't care that I installed an SSD, and that's making the noise? or chinese drive is not truly SSD? (I thought maybe the Japanese were above this but maybe not!)
How does /g/ feel about ultra-wide vs. dual monitors? Which is best for productivity?
I love having two monitors with two different desktops at the same time. Can this even be done with an ultra-wide, or do you just snap windows to the side to split the screen (but all in ONE desktop)?
I don't really see the point then as regular screens are typically large enough for this to work well already.
>>56944871
dual monitors, definitely
it's more of a hassle but aside from being generally nicer to use it also gives you more flexibility, i.e. watching a movie on one while shitposting on the other
also once you start using one in portrait mode and the other in landscape mode it's hard to go back, really great for coding/document editing/even just general web browsing
>>56944871
dual monitors. it's not even a hard choice.
if you want ultra wide, just get it, but don't act like it's for productivity. just admit that you want something gimmicky. people with disposable income get to waste it on shit. that's the right you earn.

Is programming more about creating something new, or more about maintaining previously made products/programs
nothing seems very innovative anymore, just a revamp with a slick new skin on it
>>56944772
Most software development jobs involve a great deal of maintaining and improving the old.

You wanna create OP? Build new products on your own; under the understanding that new products means something that doesn't exist or a new application of an existing solution
>>56944833
I know
It's just sad that you go into computer science/ programming in general with a wide eyed view of doing something amazing and new and you end up in a chair looking at other peoples code.
I'm just wondering how you do it anymore. You need to create apps/programs within the boundaries of others ie google, apple, microsoft. The one thing I hate the most is watching Chinese documentaries about their tech districs. Have you seen the hardware you can get in those places? It's like a nerds candyland and street market in one. Why don't they have this stuff in America?

why are you upset then?
do you think someone is looking at your data specifically, out of the literally trillions of data points out there?
>>56944736
it's not the fact that they _are_ specifically looking through my data, it's that they _can_ specifically look through my personal data without any kind of punishment. It's about privacy. How would you feel if I could just kick down the door of your house and rummage through your shit without your permission?

I have the opportunity to get a Pixel XL for $320, should I /g/? Or should I get the Moto Z or the V20?
>>56944627
Probably should just get a chinese phone for $120-180 if you have to ask. And I say that as someone who has been using one for the last 2 years.

Whatever happened to Crunchbang?
I always wanted to give it a shot but haven't had a computer in a few years and noticed there's no talk of it anywhere.

Also why the new name?

It's funny and equally sad that year 2015 marks the end of the Windows OS for a lot of people. There are several issues with Windows which, at present, make Spyware/Malware OS 10 inappropriate and even outright dangerous for a lot of people. The most egregious, of course, is a total abandonment of any form of privacy and control.
It's been two months. Where's the replacement?

can i drain my phones battery by constantly pinging it?
>>56944358
/thread
>>56944333
Why would you want to do that? Did it freeze? Did you fall for the nonremovable battery meme?
Nomatter what you are trying to do, if the end goal is to reboot the phone, it is going to be 100x faster to just take the phone about and short the battery for a split second.
>>56944661
no i just wondered if i can fuck with peoples phone since ya know...they are directly connected to the internet
