>have HP Pavilion laptop I'm not using

>troubleshoot why it's stuck at 99%
>lots of people have this problem
>fuck around for two hours with no luck
>decide fuck it, I'll install it from a USB stick
>get Windows 10 Media Tool on my desktop PC
>use the "Make an Install USB Stick" option
>it doesn't recognize my USB stick
>fine I'll make an ISO
>it needs 8GB of free space on my C drive
>no option for using another drive
>fine, I'll just download the ISO
>download the ISO
>use Rufus and make a bootable USB install stick
>finally install it on the laptop
>it didn't recognize that I had tried to upgrade with the assistive tool and didn't give me my free upgrade
>use a key I got from Dreamspark/Imagine
>it finally installs
>"Express installation option?" No
>oh wow "Express" meant leave ten thousand telemetry options enabled and use my PC as a free torrent host for Microblow
>disable all that shit
>whole system is cluttered with bullshit bloatware like Candy Crush
>disable all that and Cortana
>my graphics card is waaayy too old and Win10 can't find drivers for it
>install Windows 7 64bit drivers
>Win10 still doesn't recognize my graphics card even after the drivers are "installed successfully"
>manually update the driver to the ancient NVIDIA driver through device manager
>it works(!!!???)
>use a telemetry/bloatware remover
>removes all the shit and adds 10000 entries to my host file
>finally usable
>it's actually pretty nice

Why does hyperthreading exist? It has no advantages of multi-core CPU (better performance per watt) while keeping the disadvantages (shit single-core performance)
>>56994501
Unused per core performance.
It's just another way of saying lets split a single core into 2 so that we can use the performance elsewhere.
>>56994501
Explain to me how hyperthreading translates into shit single-core performance, aside from the rare game that performs worse when hyperthreading is enabled.
>>56994676
>have 4 cores
>enable hyper threading
>run single threaded game
>now it only can use 1/8th of the cpu
2.5" vs 3.5" external harddrive, what's better?
>>56994440
Neither External mechanical drives are trash.
Buy an SSD and stick it in a cheap enclosure.
>>56994454
I already have an SSD in my laptop, not sure why I'd need one for my TV shows and animu tho

Is there any multi-system backup service with end-to-end encryption? Like so
>open source client
>encryption key must be manually entered on all devices
>host knows nothing about file content
>phone contacts, documents on pc, etc.
I know, I could write it myself but I know jackshit about android programming and I have no server with full shell access.
Why? Just use Dropbox/etc. and store only encrypted blobs

Is NoSQL a meme? Why the fuck should I dedicate any time learning for example MongoDB instead of sticking to SQL systems like MariaDB on SQLite?
>MariaDB
>Sqlite
Just learn Oracle or MS SQL Server you NEET. Or at least PostgreSQL
>>56993922
Depends on the context. Use the appropriate DB when needed.
>>56993922
>Is NoSQL a meme?
Yes. If your data is relational, and it almost always is relational, a relational database is the right fit. Postgres is pretty cool.
>technology only you seem to care about

>he's not using a $35 iPhone 4 with replaceable internals
Do you like wasting money?
Enjoy EXC_RESOURCE crashing safari every 5 minutes when you try browsing a modern website.
is anyone here on /g/ ever replace phone emmc? you can upping storage like crazy from stock 8/16 gigs to 128/256 gigs. 32 gigs is cheap nowadays cost like $18.
>>56993767
Lets be real here yes it is cheap to repair but the power button and bezel is it weak point because the flex cable of the power button is retardedly wrapped around a small metal part that need both be glued and screwed I'm (I'm also thinking the volume buttons here, because they are on the same cable). The bezel have a tendency to bend just from you using it and it can be a bitch getting a new one that is in good quality.
It is is almost cheaper to get another one then repairing them.
What is the best distro for programming type of work?
Any programmers here that make actual money use gnu/linux?
I want to believe that I don't need Windows.
>>56993660
Also with which DE is the best combination
>>56993660
There's no such thing as a standard distro in actual use.
Everybody has to tweak the crap out of whatever distro they wind up with.
Every time a distro has been rolled out in an organisation Microsoft has been able to reclaim the account within months. Why? Distros, universally, aren't usable as they come. By the time they've been sorted out the savings are gone.
>>56993705
>with which DE
>MUH DE
ANY DE will do

yep, the page is in german but these lists are easy to understand. just pick the best (most top) cpu/graphic card you want and can afford
chip.de/bestenlisten/Bestenliste-Desktop-Prozessoren--index/index/id/693/
chip.de/bestenlisten/Bestenliste-Grafikkarten-PCIe--index/index/id/733/
depending on your cpu choice, pick a good mainboard
