>figure I'll try Windows 10 on it because the free upgrade for assistive technologies thing is still going on
>download Upgrade Tool
>takes 10 hours to get to 99%
>gets stuck at 99%
>troubleshoot why it's stuck at 99%
>lots of people have this problem
>fuck around for two hours with no luck
>decide fuck it, I'll install it from a USB stick
>get Windows 10 Media Tool on my desktop PC
>use the "Make an Install USB Stick" option
>it doesn't recognize my USB stick
>fine I'll make an ISO
>it needs 8GB of free space on my C drive
>no option for using another drive
>fine, I'll just download the ISO
>download the ISO
>use Rufus and make a bootable USB install stick
>finally install it on the laptop
>it didn't recognize that I had tried to upgrade with the assistive tool and didn't give me my free upgrade
>use a key I got from Dreamspark/Imagine
>it finally installs
>"Express installation option?" No
>oh wow "Express" meant leave ten thousand telemetry options enabled and use my PC as a free torrent host for Microblow
>disable all that shit
>whole system is cluttered with bullshit bloatware like Candy Crush
>disable all that and Cortana
>my graphics card is waaayy too old and Win10 can't find drivers for it
>install Windows 7 64bit drivers
>Win10 still doesn't recognize my graphics card even after the drivers are "installed successfully"
>manually update the driver to the ancient NVIDIA driver through device manager
>it works(!!!???)
>use a telemetry/bloatware remover
>removes all the shit and adds 10000 entries to my host file
>finally usable
>it's actually pretty nice

Lets be real here yes it is cheap to repair but the power button and bezel is it weak point because the flex cable of the power button is retardedly wrapped around a small metal part that need both be glued and screwed I'm (I'm also thinking the volume buttons here, because they are on the same cable). The bezel have a tendency to bend just from you using it and it can be a bitch getting a new one that is in good quality.
It is is almost cheaper to get another one then repairing them.

There's no such thing as a standard distro in actual use.
Everybody has to tweak the crap out of whatever distro they wind up with.
Every time a distro has been rolled out in an organisation Microsoft has been able to reclaim the account within months. Why? Distros, universally, aren't usable as they come. By the time they've been sorted out the savings are gone.
