Hey guys,
All of a sudden my desktop won't turn on. I haven't touched my computer in months (not even for turning it on since I turn it on with wake-on-lan). It's completely dead - hitting power button does nothing. No fans no nothing.
The motherboard standby led is on. I did the paper clip test and it worked - the case fans turn on. CPU or graphics card fans don't turn on, but they probably shouldn't anyway?
I tried removing all components except the CPU and one RAM card (I tried both RAMs and I tried also with both RAMs when the graphics card is attached).
So it's either CPU or mobo? I don't see any bulking capacitors on the mobo but I'm guessing mobo anyway because I think it's far more common for the mobo to break than the CPU.

Wait a few seconds.
3. Plug it back in.
4. Turn the big switch in the back on.
5. Turn the asshole front panel "smart" switch on.
If it still doesn't come on, you can try:
- reset the bios by shorting the always-popular provided motherboard pins.
- check the power supply voltage to the motherboard. Or just try another power supply.
After that could be mobo or even cpu, or most likely gremlins.

I think about upgrading my essentials next year.

With the current development, the prices should drop and all in all it should cost me in total 350-400 euros then.
I fell for the AMD meme before with my fx-8350 and i do not want to do it again. My GPU upgrade would be postponed until 2018, when the 1080 is lowered because the possible 11-series, so that is irrelevant right now.
I would opt for pic related and i have a Hyper TX3 cooler, which works just fine for me.
Is it worth its price ?
Is it a good base for 4k in the future ?
